  1. John Pinette on Free Willy
  2. This is what was on my "new" 49 Royal...cable operated from the original knob...shut off the hot water to the heater.
  3. I'm told by my 6 yr old nephew that the "older" guys (8-10) deem it high fashion:( The guy pictured missed the mark by a decade or two!!!
  4. The old Coates Iron Tireman will save you some cash...takes a little hunting but they are still out there. From eBay Mine: I found mine via a WANTED ad on Kijiji. $150 Sunk 4 drop in anchors into the concrete garage floor and 4 into the front driveway. I can bolt it down, use it then unbolt it and store it out of the way.
  5. Sorry you got took, Charlie. On behalf of the honest ones among us, I do apologize for your loss. I wonder how the recipient got the kit through customs with an assumed name??? Who was the shipper? Someone had to sign for it. You should file a report with the RCMP as well. Can't hurt. http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/scams-fraudes/index-eng.htm
  6. never found out how deep the hole was!
  7. I think I need a set o' those thar tires!!!!
  8. Some of you may recall that in 2005 my nephew Aaron was involved in a very bad accident caused by a distracted driver. He spent 5 months in a coma but miraculously made a 95% recovery. He has a LOT of titanium everywhere as well. Well, this year he will be on Canada's Worst Driver 7. He's now 30, works full time and lives independently. He also has his drivers license but is quite nervous about driving, especially here where drivers are VERY bad. Watch the video on the home page of the show for more. http://www.discoverychannel.ca/Showpage.aspx?sid=28780 They shot the show in July in Toronto, and he came home a changed man...his confidence is WAY up there and he is no longer afraid of driving...and he's a good driver again. The show also has a reputation of using and severely abusing some unique cars...a Rambler Marlin, last year a brand new Camaro, and this year a 53? Nash. These cars get pummeled badly...hard to watch but funny at the same time I asked how the Nash fared but he can't talk until after the shows air. Seasons 1 to 6 are online, I'm not sure when season 7 will be online. If you're in Canada, it's on Discovery starting Monday the 24th http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXwEhYuauJc&feature=related Fast Forward to 23:55
  9. I have a few memento's from a few cars, but not many. Most of us greybeards lament the rare and desirable vehicles we scrapped or sold for $25 bucks that are now worth a mint...but...they were just old cars back then.
  10. Some of us are old enough to have used them! ...on cars we drove and repaired daily:eek:
  11. Best is an industrial ozone generator. Rent one and set it in the car for a few hours. Actually kills the odor, doesn't mask it...won't come back. Same price as all the different cleaners but better for odor removal. http://www.medallioncanada.com/ozone_gen.htm
  12. And yes, that was my point...by step 6 it will be running and drivable but not even close to being restored, you would be just beginning:eek: By disassemble, I mean down to the last nut and bolt. Usually it's the kiss of death to a project started by a beginner in a temporary spot. By tackling one component at a time, you see real progress and the car can be driven most of the time, even if just around the block...keeps the interest in the project alive. OH, by totally dismantling, any money you may have spent will be lost...a basket case dismantled project is almost impossible to give away nevermind sell. Running and even a little drivable is much easier to sell if life gets in the way or you lose interest...it happens that way more often than not. Good luck on your project.
  13. Some older Dodge motorhomes (late 60's early 70's Travco and others) have the one piece 6 lug 16 inch wheels. Around here I found most rural small town tire shops carry the correct 17 inch tires (expensive) and are not afraid to deal with split rims. I have a 76 Champion motorhome and the front spindles will interchange with the spindles on my 62 d3OO (same kingpin part number), and the rear end is a bolt in swap giving discs on the front, good highway gears on the back and one piece 16 inch tubeless 10 bolt wheels. Got the motorhome for $200 with a good running 440.
  14. With or without mouse turds? I must have cleaned out 300 pounds from my Chrysler
  15. Welcome!! Step one...resist every urge to disassemble!!! If you are in a temporary spot, one car is easier to move than one car and a thousand parts!!! You can even throw a blanket over the seat and drive it! Step two...get it running. Step three...continue to resist the urge to disassemble:D Step four...rebuild the brakes or install disc brake kit Step five...Buy tires. That will cover the first 5 yrs or so:eek:.
  16. I think it is slang for a Model T Ford
  17. hot tanking the block and head should do the trick
  18. Our local Kijiji often has ads offering the removable full size van rear seats for free.

  20. Try http://www.collectorsautosupply.com Locations in Oroville WA and Peachland BC for NOS parts close by. http://www.collectorsautosupply.com/query.asp?make=Dodge+TRUCK&year=55&section=SUSPENSION
  21. That would have landed Dads in jail for life these days!!!!!!!!
  22. My Dad used a hitch like that to pull a soft top tent trailer over the Rocks to Kelowna BC with the "old" 49 Chrysler for a few summers, then transferred the hitch to the "new" 58 Rambler and did it for a few more summers to Kelowna. He did have hefty safety chains between the chassis and the trailer tongue but still worried about it the whole trip. He had to get a real hitch for the 64 Marauder...cheap "newer" car bumpers
  23. We have a Canadian Pickers up here and they featured a place just north of the city owned by 85 yr old Archie... a real wonderland of oddities. A buddy and I went there one sunny Saturday in August. There, buried under some other junk was this: A huge long Walker 4 ton floor jack...$50!!! I was going to dismantle it and restore it but I thought I would just lube everything and fill it first just to see if by chance it worked...and it does! Rebuild kits are available for the cylinder and the wheels are worn down very thin but all in all it's in good shape so I'll leave it as a survivor...just power wash it and use it. Canadian pickers has all episodes online...just as interesting as AP
