  1. That's some really impressive progress, Gary. I like the color. Keep us up to date. Pat
  2. Ed, the neighbors weren't wondering WHAT he dragged home...they were wondering WHO!!!!!
  3. My local parts store has them at the warehouse. They have them delivered same day. Used to be $40c but now $21c. Hygrade is the maker
  4. The article at Allpar written by the owner of the 1951 DeSoto Suburban mentions that he is "bitterly opposed to putting head gaskets on dry. I have used Gasgacinch with no ensuing problems" http://www.allpar.com/cars/desoto/suburban-1951.html I have always put them on dry, but that doesn't mean it's right for these engines. I am almost ready to put the cylinder head back on the rebuilt industrial 251 engine I have been cleaning up and was wondering what your opinions were on the subject. Thanks Pat
  5. Fred, I'm not really the one to ask. From what I have read, the M5 and M6 are the same except for the wiring. For the M6 that I got from Richie, I have new electrics (solenoid, governor and interuptor switch), I'm making up a new harness using the original and the wiring diagram as a guide, and flushing and refilling. I have the correct carb which a friend with extensive carb experience is rebuilding for me. My own experience long ago and all I have read tells me that should be all that is required as these units are fairly trouble free. As for the fluid coupling, it will get drained and refilled as well. The clutch is in good shape and dry. Hopefully, the unit will operate well and only need minor adjustments Richies M6 upon arrival As of yesterday on the bench so I can install the new solenoid, governor and interuptor switch.
  6. I'm on dial-up at home and I guess I'm used to the wait but it doesn't seem all that bad. I think the thumbnails are a good idea, then those with the cable can still have the larger pics and us old dinosaurs can pick the ones we want to see in detail. I have wireless satellite internet at work...lightning fast
  7. Welcome back, Joe. Nice to see you haven't given up on the old Mopar. Keep us updated if you can. Pat
  8. I was wondering if a sticky thread or separate forum on fluid drive would be useful seeing as both the cars and trucks used it. After a while, it would be a very useful kinda knowledge base on the FD and it's many idiosyncracies(sp?)
