  1. A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship" Well, I guess you are not happy with the country. Ayn Rand was an author as was L. Ron Hubbard. My personal belief is that both should have stuck to Fiction. Maybe they did. We are adaptive. We no longer have tails. We fly around in shiny metal birds. We do not have long bread lines. There are not people starving , grazing in the ditches. Things could be better, they will be. They will get worse too and then better again. We have come a long way. We have a long way to go. I think that the Indians are slowly taking back their country. We call them Mexicans. So far it seems pretty peaceful. I like the tan, I hope some of my children marry some of their children. Peace
  2. I still don't see why there will be a higher failure rate. Before the program there was a pretty low car loan failure rate. People do not like to lose their cars. I guess you just are not happy with this Federal Program. I don't see any higher taxes for you in the near future unless you make over $250K. You just don't like this President. Cool. I didn't like my tax dollars being spent in Iraq, and still don't. This isn't a buffet style of government where we get to decide what program we personally like and thus fund. I like our Interstate Highways. I like that we have Medicare, Social Security, a Military, Air Traffic Controllers. National Institute of Health. I guess some people don't like poor people or blame them for their poverty. I eat the food that is cheap because of their low wages. I live in a state that is filled with welfare recipients, we call them Farmers. Wall Street is also filled with welfare recipients and has been for a long time. JMO
  3. I don't see why the failure rate on the loans would be any different than before. I have heard it is much harder to borrow now. Like many said here. Don't borrow what you can't afford. The national saving rate is 4% now as opposed to just 1% a year ago. I hope that increases. Maybe people stop buying a lot of crap that just is thrown away. I am not sure if Cash for Clunkers is a perfect program. It has sold some cars. I am sure it isn't perfect but better than money for bombs blowing up people ,we have never seen. We have wasted money in worst ways. It isn't the end. Eric
  4. I was 14 at the time and would have loved to have been there then but am glad now I didn't go. A lot of mud and a lot of so-so music. Still a couple hundred thousand kids having a good time and was anyone killed? I am sure more than a few drunks killed themselves and others that weekend. I don't think it was about "Stopping the War" as much as having a good time. Politics aside I think that the War was about freedom? Whose? Only those who fought and believed? I guess being not of the "Greatest Generation" we don't have much say!! They fought for us to be free and guess what we were and are, LOL Really it was about getting stoned, having fun, SEX, Drugs and Rock'n'Roll. Eric
  5. Arthur, The car sounds great and really looks great. I love the blue. Sorry to hear you are thinking of selling it. Eric

  14. Pete, I navigated around your site. Very nice. I really liked the Cutter Home. (Not the same Cutter family as "In Cold Blood") If I brought you a fuel pump from a 1948 Plymouth and asked you to design around it, would you raise an eyebrow? Your wife and you are very talented. Eric
  15. I watched it without having to add anything. If that was the case I wouldn't be able to. Sorry you couldn't see it. Eric
  16. http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/Films/025/index.html The OIC has some cool films.
  17. Well, we sure have a picky crowd . . . "No onions, too messy, no carrots!!" No wonder we can't get along. Food is pretty personal. Me, kraut , slaw or onions. Chili, sure. The only big no no is ketsup. Dogs is mustard food. Greg's potato and salt story is great. I'd recomend Mark Kurlansky's books, "Salt" or even "Cod" great reads. While you're at it pick up "Potato, How the humble spud rescued the Western World" by Larry Zuckerman. Good eating to all. and remember suffering for and from food is American. Eric
  18. Ny Times had an article on affordable classics. Here's a quote from Mecum At $10,000 or less, Mr. Mecum got creative and recommended something completely different. “Old cars in this price range weren’t popular when they were new, so their value isn’t high today. This makes them harder to sell later, but they’re still enjoyable. I’d look at 1948-54 Plymouth sedans.” http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/24/automobiles/collectibles/24collectible.html?pagewanted=2&_r=1&hp Nice to hear. Eric
  19. Welcome, put up a picture of your car if you can. The 41 is a good looking year. Eric
  20. Pontiac's success was a long time ago. It was a different time, cheap gas , no real foreign competition. DeLorean had to fight to make Pontiac exciting back in the 60s. Today, what is the difference between Chevy, Buick and Pontiac? I went to a Pontiac show with my neighbor last year in Omaha. There were hundreds of Pontiacs. It was a good time. I am afraid that is the point "WAS". Do not blame the Government. GM has been poorly run for 20+ years. Eric
  21. I used to have a box of SOS pads from the 1930s. It was just steel wool with a brown block of soap!!. It is good to live in these modern times. Sometimes "New and Improved" are more than mere sales slogans. Eric
  22. Pete, hard to figure out what it is doing in the Airborne area except it is cool!!. It is one great looking car. Eric
  23. Thanks for posting the pics. Some great loking cars and truck. Eric
  24. That was good. I like where they pulled up in front of the "Zen Cafe". If you like Gumby you just might like "Moral Orel". Eric
