Don, I guess it's the nice green coupe in his profile.
Mike, when I did mine, I used a coat hanger wire to get the pattern of the inner and outer rocker panels and had them made at a metal shop. The ends of the crossmembers going in to the inner rockers I made myself, and welded everything in with a mig welder. Brendan.
Welcome Mike, if you use the search feature there were several threads on rocker panel and floor and crossmember repair. I did mine but sorry I don't have any pics. Brendan.
Pedro, where would you change polarity? When I originally bought my Forney 110 (Clarke) about 12 yrs ago, I first used flux core for a short time and then started using CO2 gas, but never changed polarity. I and others always said that this welder was a piece of sh*t. So maybe you might have hit on something for me also. Brendan.
Fred, I see that Princess Auto has the HVLP paint gun and turbine compressor in this weeks flyer for about $100. I wonder if it is any good, have you heard of anyone using it?
Here on the East coast of Canada where I live you will rarely see block heaters used. The temp here this morning is the coldest it has been all winter -11C and probably will not go much lower for this winter. My 48 Dodge originally came from BC and is equipped with a block heater.
Is that a 49 or 50 Buick woody wagon I see in the background of the first pic? You're doing great work, I've been enjoying your posts. Thanks, Brendan.
Interesting thread Robert, besides puttering in the garage and doing work around the house I am a ham radio operator and an avid reader of car related literature. Time flys. Brendan.
Bob, I have had one of those little trigger handles for a few years now, very handy and gives good control of the spray, used it yesterday cleaning up the suspension on my Bug. Brendan.
The car has been sitting for quite awhile and maybe the battery is not in top condition and maybe the clock works and has drained the battery. Maybe it will go with a boost or another battery. If you can't get it started, are there what we call tilt and load trucks there? Good Luck, Brendan.
No such thing as a dumb question. The earlier cars had a small round pedal on the floor that was pushed for starting and later they moved to a pushbutton on the dash. Brendan.
You have a nice 42 there and it is a club coupe which makes it a bit rarer that a sedan. You are now in the right place here to get lots of help and encouragement. I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. Does he have a computer? I'm sure he would enjoy this forum after keeping the 42 for so long. Good Luck, Brendan.
BTW, your Blazer looks sharp.
Bob,that was a good buy. Those manuals are excellent reference for anyone restoring a Mopar. Last year I picked up a Parts Buyers Guide for Canadian Built Mopar cars and 1/2 & 1 ton trucks. It covers 1946 to 1956. It even gives prices but also says prices may change without notice. Brendan.
A couple of weeks ago a 48 Dodge D25 sedan was for sale in Nova Scotia and in the ad it was mentioned that the grille was re-chromed. I contacted the seller and he told me the grille had been done in Montreal for $1200. Brendan.
When Dan mentioned the area in front of aircraft windscreen being painted to cut down glare, It came to me that a lot if not all school busses have the bonnet painted flat black to reduce glare. Flat black on the underside of the visor would go with any colour. Brendan.
