  1. Yes Tim, even the church pays the minister/priest, plus the office workers. But........we are sure ALL of the money we spend on food donations are used for food. That's because we do not donate the actual cash. We buy the food, then donate/deliver it our self.
  2. Tim, if you do the speed limit the noise will not be as bad.
  3. Going out on a limb here. But.....since no one has said anything different, it would seem they used their old bolts and washers.
  4. So.......here's where the happiest people all live, in order by rank. For more information, you can go to this link. http://www.tonic.com/article/happiest-states-in-america/ Maybe people in New York have to move somewhere else to be happy. Andrew Oswald/Wu ranking of happiness levels by US State: 1. Louisiana 2. Hawaii 3. Florida 4. Tennessee 5. Arizona 6. Mississippi 7. Montana 8. South Carolina 9. Alabama 10. Maine 11. Alaska 12. North Carolina 13. Wyoming 14. Idaho 15. South Dakota 16. Texas 17. Arkansas 18. Vermont 19. Georgia 20. Oklahoma 21. Colorado 22. Delaware 23. Utah 24. New Mexico 25. North Dakota 26. Minnesota 27. 5. I guess because I use the word combustible so often for work, I used the wrong word. Should have been Combustion engine.
  6. Tim, The food banks I mentioned that we donate to locally are operated by non paid volunteers. They are operated by the church. The church members volunteer their time to work at the food bank. Now, I suppose some other groups may be paid, but not the ones I mentioned. That said, a lot of the bell ringers for the Salvation Army are non paid volunteers. We use to have a guy who worked for us that was a member of the Salvation Army church. He use to ring bells with the kettle every year and not get paid.
  7. Don, The museum at Ft. Knox is the Patton museum. They are one in the same. I probably have some pictures from it that I took back in the early 90's. I'd really have to dig through some old albums to find them though.
  8. Well.......I agree with Don for most donations, especially when it comes to food donations. I'd much rather take a little time and buy the food myself, then deliver it to a local food bank. By doing it that way, there is no cost involved by the charity, and all of the money went for food, not just part of it. In fact, at most local food banks, they are operated by volunteers that don't get paid because they are usually run by some local church. About the only national charities I will donate to are like MD, Heart and Cancer charities. Even the stuff we give to Goodwill and the Salvation Army stays local. But.........at the same time, there is nothing wrong with the national groups. Like Don mentioned, it's a personal preference. At least someone is going to benefit from it. So.......we should not criticize each other for our choice of which charity we give to. Nor, should we criticize those who feel they just cannot afford to donate to any charity at all.
  9. Actually, the one I used was one from a late 90's Mopar I believe. At any rate, I just picked it out of a catalog at the auto parts store. I show that valve on the engine restoration page of my website. That said, Edwin has a 55 Plymouth V8, not the six. So........he may need a different one than I used, but should be able to find something that will work the same as I did.
  10. Agreed. But another reason many of the old cars aren't around today is simply because we live in a "throw away society". Many of the cars that went to the bone yards could have been fixed, people just didn't want to fix them. We see that still today with modern cars.
  11. Well........when I replaced mine, the bushings were not worn out. But.....they were in there so tight, I had to drill them out to replace them.
  12. I wouldn't buy any car sight unseen, or that I have not driven. That would include a brand new car.
  13. Michael, Actually, the engine in your modern 2010 cars are really the same technology as our 60 and 70 year old cars are. They are still a combustible engine. The only difference in them is the electronics that control them today. The engine, transmission and rearends/transaxle's are the same.
  14. Or........perhaps he had one too many of that liquid that comes in a brown bottle prior to installing that seat.
  15. Well.......I guess all this with Don and Greg is sort of in line with a few other guy's posting about their medical problems. And, as much as we may not want to admit it, we're just getting older and more than likely these things will pop up, due to aging. Important thing is to keep good tabs on yourself. Even then, you just never know what's going to happen. Last April my older brother had what he thought was just a common cold and a little scratchy throat. He was under a doctors care for other things, but didn't call the doctor right away. He just took some over the counter stuff. Felt better within a week and went back to work. By mothers day he was in the hospital and the doctor had to put him in an induced coma. They kept him in the coma until about mid June. He passed away July 15. He was only 67. I've never been one to see a doctor on a regular basis. But.....after the holidays I think I should start going in at least for an annual check up. I already do that for my arthritis at the RH clinic, but that's just for the RH.
  16. I painted my engine with a brush too. I left all area's that were to be covered with a gasket bare. I also did not paint over the engine number on purpose. I was using a thick (uncut) engine paint from Hirsch though. I know a lot of people do paint over those surfaces, but I don't go along with doing it. Primarily because I'm always afraid of the paint peeling. If it peels, it could cause problems with the seal between the two surfaces. Only reason I left the engine number unpainted is so the paint wouldn't fill the depressions in the numbers.
  17. Not a bad looking sedan delivery. But........for that kind of money, they could have installed the drivers seat straight. Take a look at that, it's sitting crooked. Wonder what else is improperly installed on that truck?
  18. If you want to see some original staff cars, go to the museum at Fort Knox, KY. There are several WWII cars there, along with communications trucks, and other trucks and tanks. BobT, Staff cars were still used in the 60's. The battalion commander of our headquarters had both a staff can and a jeep in Korea back in 62 - 63. Also had them in France when I was there in 66 - 67.
  19. You can also find lots of information/books on how to at the public library. Before doing my interior I found a real nice old time how to book there. Checked it out, brought it home and copied the whole book on the copy machine, then bound it together, to read when I had time. Then returned the book to the library.
  20. Good to hear everything seems to be going well. That can be nasty stuff. Must be a day for doctors. Wife and I both went in this morning. But.......she didn't see her doctor, and mine wasn't even there. We were just there for the H1N1 shot though, so really didn't need to see a doctor for that.
  21. Mike, Don't need anything right now, but that sounds like a good idea. Could turn out to be a nice little side venture for you. Actually, that's how Gil got started making body parts out in Iowa. He had a P15 convertible to restore. Of course it needed a lot of things like floor pans, rockers, etc., so he had to make patterns for the convertible. Then afterward, he started making and selling the parts to everyone.
  22. Tod, My front mats were rubber in my 48 too. But........when I did the interior I took the old rubber mat out and replaced it with carpet, as I like the carpet better.
  23. All the drive in theaters around here have been gone for years. That was due to the land becoming too valuable, then the property taxes rose with that, making it hard for them to make a profit. Use to have a twin drive in about 5 miles from me years ago. Now, it's part of an industrial park. There are a few left in the state though. But.......they are at least 50 or 60 miles or more away from here.
  24. The only time I've ever had a brake line, or a gas line bind at the fitting is when it was rusted. At that point, you may as well cut it off anyway as the line should be replace at that time.
  25. That may be. But.......if it's not sealed against the bottom, water can still seep through under the gasket, causing it to leak.
