  1. now if anyone in their travels happens upon a 41 Dodge as pictured above, I am looking for set of those front turn signals mounted on the fenders..will be stamped ETTE
  2. no..only eight possible hole alignments as the holes are stationary..7 wrong...most all fly wheels and damper pulleys have a slight offset hole in the bolt circle..
  3. The '49 and '50 noses are interchangeable as units. Hoods and fenders will interchange, but a number of differences and trim modifications will make substitution of '49 components for those of the '50 difficult
  4. have you actually checked the front sway bar bushings for excessive wear...of the four bushing..the outer ends..I have used foreign car bushings..the inner are pressed in..be a bit tough replacing without removing the rivets and replacing with bolts...then you could remove a small slice out of the back and overlay with a sheet of rubber and clamp back in place..the overlay will force the rubber closed at the slit and compress the bush to allow no slop.. this is not a 100 percent fix but should get you by while you serch for actual replacements
  5. Just in case you come across a listing by part numbers... 1949 Hood Panel, Section 15-03-3 ...Part number 1239 965 1950 Hood Panel, Secion 15-03-3 ...part number 1335 263
  6. No, no, the Secret Agent Spy Scopes, man! Pizzeria Employee in "American Graffiti": "Shakey's Pizza." Wolfman Jack (as himself): "Uh, yeah, listen, you got anymore of those Secret Agent Spy Scopes?" Pizzeria: "Hit Parade on a Stethescope?" Wolfman: "No, no, the Secret Agent Spy Scopes, man! That pulls in the Moon, the Stars, the Planets, the satellites, and the little-bitty Spacemen." Pizzeria: "You must have the wrong number, Pardner!"
  7. according to Mopar the use of unleaded gas with non hardened seat has a average on the road use of 25000 miles...by that time the valve is cupped and recessed quite a bit... Lou..be on the lookout for a set of 400 heads as these babies are direct replacment with factory hardened seats or invest in a set of 8 and have them installed...
  8. I like using OOOO steel wool pad....
  9. Frank..thanks for the explanation of differences on the Bz Cp/convertible decklids..I know the book shows different part numbers and folks have argued to no end they are the same...and I always asked then the difference in numbers...never had one of each to compare..now we know the "rest of the story"
  10. 8 bushings in the rear, 4 at each shackle..the forward silent blocks are probably still in great shape..for the front..check your sway bar bushings..these front suspensions are not exactly firm feeling.. you can get the rear bushings from Advance Auto ...and if you want a firmer set you can get poly graphite bushings for the Mopar A bodies...
  11. other than a tad wider at the upper heads/valve covers etc..the big block and small block Chrysler are very close in dimensions..it is very easily doable...
  12. that is an extremely hard to find lens might I add..and expensive when it does show up...OUCH
  13. I believe I would have held out for the butyl..it can be bought for just a couple bucks at any big box auto parts store....be careful with the trimming of the RTV...the butyl would go on easy with a caulk gun...clean up nicely and stay pliable... toluene, can be bought at paint stores and I think even Lowes...it will dissolve the RTV but be aware it will also eat up paint ...
  14. Don sings the blues...I cannot recall any sides with pizza...except for breadsticks that is...a bit of dipping sauce for the bread...but I agree..if you did not get what you wanted..no amount of anything else makes up for the difference..as for the wangs...they should be just that..cut wings..and the suace..while I do not like burn me down hot..I do indeed like the flavor..and Tobasco is my favorite..
  15. Don..I do not think this vehicle has any true advantages...especially with the add saying the axles are not part of the deal...
  16. that is right Norm and if you present a build sheet if and when you decide to move a project toward a new owner..it truly helps to sell the vehicle AS DOES picture of the project before and after showing how the damage was repaired..I was told by one guy when I sold the Porsche that I was asking a bit more than market..I showed him the step by step of all metal repair..he bought the car at my price and said he has piece of mind knowing the car is solid...so it is good advice to anyone here to document the repairs as you go..think most of us do..write a small blurb also if there is anything unique or unusual about the modification or repair..
  17. it is not railing the guy to go different..per say..it was the wording of the railing..as for doing something different..I actually did not see anything DONE in the photograph...the top is just sitting over the doors..actually that is what is holding the doors closed...no transisition has been worked out, not any indication that a thought has even be given to the idea..had there been a bit more work done my take would be a bit more approving..some of these rides like this show so much imigination ..but it should not be our imigination to try and picture the end product...for all practical purposes..I see this as a lift off hardtop vehicle that the top when removed is actually the truck bed cover...
  18. Norm..every one of my cars has a donor part list of the year and model..it is necessary for future maintenance. When I sold my 1941 Dodge military model truck with the 440 and automatic, Porsche guages, late model column and swing pedals etc etc..the new owner got a build sheet and a wiring schematic... The 41 Bigbutt has a extremely in depth build sheet and schematic and the 51 with the donor wiring it got is such as the factory wiring schematic is still valid with exception to 4 wires being splice to mount the accessory on the opposite side of the vehicle. I urge anyone doing this to write it all down..if part numbers are available..write them..including donor rad hose and how to cut and trim to match your new application...else the ole mind will fool you as to what you THINK you may have used...
  19. this is funny...read the comments...no personal stakes involved..but remove the wheels and you have just a turd that won't roll..but for 20.00 you can bid..tell the guy to use the money to pay someone to carry it off to the crusher... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Model-A-MODEL-A-rat-hot-rod-coupe-truck-kustom-project-dodge-55_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6234QQihZ020QQitemZ300309600058QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  20. Bob...E-bay, type in: tin, lucky strike they be there...as you did not mention the size...I am not sure if ther exact one you want is present
  21. Norm..your words truly do strike true...and I was a bit harsh is saying you watch time go by...and I also know thee is a bit of age difference between yourself and me and on top of that I know about health reason limit folks abiltiy and forces acceptance to the fact they cannot continue doing some of the things they so want to do...and if graced to live long enough I am certain as life itsself that I also will have to tailor my life to age and health. You are at the point where you know some of your limitations and have moved on to other hobbies and interest..some of my goals I aknow point blank are not ever going to be achieved in my lifetime..and all these cars here were never bought with the intentions of myself personally finishing up..these are limited to just a handful..the rest..well, I hope to sell off a bit here and there over time so as to keep me liquid in my shop and enjoy a few things in my retirement..I am probably as much a realist as yourself..and could go to the great reward at any minute..I guess secretly I am still hedging bet in the other direct..not to do so would sorta like surrendering long before the battle even starts. Beside...this will be payback to the kids..I could never get them to clean their rooms growing up...imagine them going through this stuff when I am gone..dad's last laugh
  22. whichever way you do it..do document your every step on tear down..save, bag and identify all small parts screws and bolts as to their orgin..and pictures and more pictures..get a journal and write a small blurg on any step that may have seemed tricky else going back willhave you scratching your head.. Do enjoy the process...this is where I get the most of my old car fun..the actual "doing the work"
  23. The Mopar Performance book chapter on the early B & RB engines says: If you are restoring your old muscle cars engine for modern road use you will need new valve seats as these old engines DID NOT have hardened valve seats. Mopar performance does indeed sell three popular sizes for these engines...and the largest 1.88 vlave IS NOT recommend for the B engine as it results in lost power. Get the smaller seat of 1.74 (stock size in your 60) and should you ever adventure to a bit of engine hop up..the 1.81 exhaust valve can be used by opening up the 1.74...sold 8 to the package..
  24. thats both a lot of time on the road from home and miles on a car of this vintage...glad all went well and you got home safe...talk about memories...you got a trunk load I am sure...
  25. Hey Joe..aren't those welding clamps just the ticket...would hate to start a job without them anymore..
