  1. I’m still not sure why you won’t put a kit in yourself. If you have disabilities, I understand that. If you have no time due to work/business, I understand that. If you have major family commitments, I understand that. If the thought of doing it yourself puts you off, I kinda understand that……….. but the kits have instructions and all you need to do is remove and replace some nuts. There are a couple of places, but not many, where you will need to crimp or solder wires. I prefer soldering with the absolute basic soldering kit. Saves you a lot of money as an upside, plus you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself. Your truck of course but just my two nickels worth. We stopped using cent coins years ago in Canada.
  2. I’ve never had and will likely never have that opportunity………..but I sure would like to. I’ll bet it’s a truly magical sight! It’s so hard to find anywhere, even on the prairies, without light pollution.
  3. As I said, I think I MAY have seen it on the forum previously. If it’s in Vermont, I’m at least a couple of thousand miles away from it.
  4. I’m pretty sure that parts car was on this forum a little while back. Owner was looking for help but probably changed his mind. If that is the car, I’m glad he saved it for you.
  5. That looks great! Good job!
  6. Gotcha! Too bad you and your wife have to deal with that. Hopefully you, your wife, and the ‘62 Ford Galaxy have a happy reunion at some point.
  7. I agree with Ivan_B. Now is the time to do it. Maybe your wife can be the broker here assuming she’s willing. A straight up honest conversation, although at times awkward, is sometimes the way forward. You need the car, the car needs you. Carpe diem!
  8. A photo of the ‘62 would be nice to share but you have it in your head and that’s what counts. I bought my Ford in 1979 as a second car and it slowly became a keeper. Had the blue repainted in 1982 but the white is original. The paint is not as nice as it shows in the pictures but I never worry about it that way. Had the original 260 V8 engine rebuilt a couple of years ago. New seat upholstery but rest of interior is original. So a pretty decent survivor which has never been restored but had some work.
  9. Do you have a new harness kit? If not, YnZ wiring is in California and speaking from personal experience their kits are good. Kit comes with very good instructions and are easy to install. Personally, I would go that route rather than pay someone else.
  10. Well, if anyone in the family deserves the car, it is you and your wife! I hope when the time arrives that your wish comes true. I like the early 60’s Fords and have a ‘63 Ford Fairlane 500 myself. Good luck!
  11. I hope you’re not putting the pictured doghouse on your truck! 🤪😵‍💫
  12. Absolutely true but this eclipse is visible from our little speck of dust called Earth, our satellite called the moon, and our local star. That’s what makes it so truly amazing to me!
  13. Parts will be out there. Not sure where and what the cost will be but it’s fixable. Young Ed on this forum got into an accident a few years ago with his P15 and it was a lot worse than yours. It got fixed and car looks great. It hurts to have your car damaged but it is fixable. There are a lot worse things in life that can and unfortunately do happen.
  14. I can’t believe so few people seem enthralled by the eclipse. I am no where near the line of the eclipse but still amazed by it. You could fit over a million Earths inside the sun and it is going to be blocked by the moon that has a diameter 1/4 that of Earth. Probably not many places in our galaxy of 140 billion+ stars can that happen. If you are not totally amazed by what happens in our solar system, galaxy, universe, I feel sorry for you.
  15. I had my 1953 Plymouth out today for the first drive of 2024. Weather is warm and snow is gone. I put on a new water pump and fuel pump recently and all worked well. I live on the prairies of southern Alberta but if you enlarge the picture you can see the Rocky Mountains in the distance above the car’s roof.
  16. Probably 10,000-15,000 volts running through the spark plug wires. I’ve had the experience of touching one. A bit of a wake up call is all. Old time mechanics would touch them to check for spark. It’s amperage that can kill you I believe.
  17. I did not clean anything before painting. I didn’t go too far down as it becomes 70 year old grease. The head was amazingly clean and I just painted it. I did pull the plugs and put in an old crappy set and just painted around them. Everything is back together now and running fine. Changed oil, that’s why the funnel. Not sure what you’re seeing. Only thing below the water pump is the front engine mount. I did replace the rubber part of the mount.
  18. Gotta be the truck! That will be a great project! I also think it would look very nice in its original colours.
  19. In the OT forum there are comments about the lack of content in the forums. Certainly not as much as there used to be. So, I’m going to try to be a bit more active. I will continue with my cheap engine rebuild thread (aka Tremclad/Rustoleum rebuild). LOL. A new fuel pump and water pump have been added along with new brushes in the generator. I even went to the great expense of painting my fan which was at least 50 cents. I spare no expense! ? Next, recored radiator (that was expensive), new hoses, anti-freeze, oil change and lube job. Then wait for the weather to improve and put a few more thousand on the old girl. I’ll probably wear out before she does.
  20. There is way less content on the forums than 5-10 years ago. I try to add a bit once in a while but not as much as I used to. Gonna try to add more. Check out “Cheap Engine Rebuild” on the car forum.
  21. I really like the fact you use your old truck lots. Hauling ice, sap, lumber, etc. Worst thing for an old vehicle is sitting unused.
  22. No question in my mind. I’d go original. Look how good they are after a lot of use. Grease well upon assembly.
  23. Engine had a burnt valve at 72,000 miles. Valve was replaced with a good used one and the others were lapped. A set of rings were thrown in also after honing the cylinders. Bearings were right in the middle of specs and reused. That was over 40 years ago. I’ve owned the car since 1975. I change oil when it gets a bit dark and lube everything then also. Paint is original to the car as well.
