  1. I am looking to replace my gas tank in my Canadian 1951 Dodge D39 business coupe. This is basically a Plymouth and takes the same tank. I am looking for recommendations of suppliers of replacement tanks. Good fit is important to me. I basically want a bolt in where everything like fuel filler, sending unit, and gas line fitting match.

I did find one online (eBay) by a company called Vans Auto LLC. They are about $180 cheaper than Moparpro. Anyone heard of them? Moparpro tank looks good as well.

Any recommendations? Thanks for your time and any advice.

  2. I bought a really cheap pair of brake spring pliers years ago. They bent before the spring even budged. Got my money back and bought a slightly more expensive pair. Same story. Got my money back again but went to another store where I bought an expensive pair. I’ve probably used them a hundred times since and they still look new. You probably know the moral of the story but I’ll tell you anyway…….. spend the money and buy quality tools that lasts.

  3. John-T-53, thanks for all the pictures. I’m sure a lot of us would like to make the tailgate and BBQ. Just not practical for most. However, your pictures really let those of us who can’t make it live vicariously through your pictures. The most and best of the bunch!

I would love to bring this old girl to the BBQ but it involves border crossing (not a problem with a passport) and a three, four, or possibly five day drive depending on weather and lack of problems.

It doesn’t have a tailgate but does have the next best thing…..a big butt trunk.

Yeah, but it's British air, probably end up with a craving for tea and crumpets.

For me, it would be bangers and mash washed down with a fine pint of best bitter! 😊

  5. I’m still not sure why you won’t put a kit in yourself. If you have disabilities, I understand that. If you have no time due to work/business, I understand that. If you have major family commitments, I understand that. If the thought of doing it yourself puts you off, I kinda understand that……….. but the kits have instructions and all you need to do is remove and replace some nuts. There are a couple of places, but not many, where you will need to crimp or solder wires. I prefer soldering with the absolute basic soldering kit. Saves you a lot of money as an upside, plus you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself. Your truck of course but just my two nickels worth. We stopped using cent coins years ago in Canada.

Go hundreds of miles out to sea.  You realize why they call it the Milky Way.

I’ve never had and will likely never have that opportunity………..but I sure would like to. I’ll bet it’s a truly magical sight! It’s so hard to find anywhere, even on the prairies, without light pollution.

  7. I agree with Ivan_B. Now is the time to do it. Maybe your wife can be the broker here assuming she’s willing. A straight up honest conversation, although at times awkward, is sometimes the way forward. You need the car, the car needs you. Carpe diem!

  8. A photo of the ‘62 would be nice to share but you have it in your head and that’s what counts. I bought my Ford in 1979 as a second car and it slowly became a keeper. Had the blue repainted in 1982 but the white is original. The paint is not as nice as it shows in the pictures but I never worry about it that way. Had the original 260 V8 engine rebuilt a couple of years ago. New seat upholstery but rest of interior is original. So a pretty decent survivor which has never been restored but had some work.

Father has 2 houses, and a huge bank account ....

We are not interested in the houses or bank account .... I just want to take care of Grandpa's car and nobody else in the family will.

Well, if anyone in the family deserves the car, it is you and your wife! I hope when the time arrives that your wish comes true. I like the early 60’s Fords and have a ‘63 Ford Fairlane 500 myself.

    Good luck!

Fortunately, I don’t have many neighbors and it’s not very visible from the road. Passersby might think I have a strange wind chime collection or Shaman spirit tree. We all know it as the doghouse inner support pieces prepped for painting. It was the first day weather has been cooperative for outdoor work.

I hope you’re not putting the pictured doghouse on your truck! 🤪😵‍💫

I am pretty sure this happens everywhere throughout our galaxy since each star we see in just another "sun" with some planets around it. In fact, astronomers/astrophysicists sort of watch eclipses around other cosmic bodies all the time. If I recall correctly, this is one of the ways to scientifically determine if there are planets around stars or satellites around planets. When one body overshadows the other in front of an observer, you can detect slight changes in its brightness, and when this happens at periodic time internals you can readily determine what's going on in the given "solar" system far far away from us :)

Absolutely true but this eclipse is visible from our little speck of dust called Earth, our satellite called the moon, and our local star. That’s what makes it so truly amazing to me!

  12. Parts will be out there. Not sure where and what the cost will be but it’s fixable. Young Ed on this forum got into an accident a few years  ago with his P15 and it was a lot worse than yours. It got fixed and car looks great. It hurts to have your car damaged but it is fixable. There are a lot worse things in life that can and unfortunately do happen.

    • Thanks 1
  13. I can’t believe so few people seem enthralled by the eclipse. I am no where near the line of the eclipse but still amazed by it. You could fit over a million Earths inside the sun and it is going to be blocked by the moon that has a diameter 1/4 that of Earth. Probably not many places in our galaxy of 140 billion+ stars can that happen. If you are not totally amazed by what happens in our solar system, galaxy, universe, I feel sorry for you.

  14. I had my 1953 Plymouth out today for the first drive of 2024. Weather is warm and snow is gone. I put on a new water pump and fuel pump recently and all worked well.

I live  on the prairies of southern Alberta but if you enlarge the picture you can see the Rocky Mountains in the distance above the car’s roof.
