  1. That might just fit Rockwood's budget!
  2. Definitely too much fun. You are now a fully fledged retired "too much fun" addict. Glad to see you are having a great time and that the weather is good. Keep enjoying yourself!
  3. I like the way they came from the factory. Firewall, underside of hood and trunk body colour with the inner fenders and rest of engine compartment stuff black. However, I don't mind doing what steveplym did with his with the top of the cowl body colour and the rest of the firewall black. When I repaint my '48 Dodge D25 that is likely the route I will go as I do not want to pull the engine just to paint the entire firewall body colour. Also, it is black at present.
  4. claybill, you surprise me. I thought you would be all over this one like a teenage boy with a willing girlfriend. Your collection of old tin convertibles needs this added to it. I know you don't have enough so why not a '49?
  5. As there appears to be "no honour among thieves" in this case, I imagine one of the apprehended culprits will plea bargain and rat on the two who were not caught and have the jewels. As Norm says, this kind of story makes the rounds quickly. At the very least it has provided some light relief in difficult times. Thanks for posting.
  6. That is a very sweet Dodge. Congratulations on a great job!
  7. A lot of younger people today have trouble making change unless they have a calculator handy. I usually just tell them what it will be if they don't have a register that will do it for them. They sometimes want to know how I did that. I just say, When I went to school there were no calculators so you either did it on paper or in your head. I then tell them that your brain is a calculator. When I get that stare that means are you crazy, I just leave.
  8. I agree that it looks pretty decent but buyer beware. Make sure you check it out before buying or you could be getting a lot more than you bargained for.....or less. If as decent as it shows probably a reasonable price but not a bargain.
  9. Nicely restored cars are way better than this monstrosity. The '49 Dodge Wayfarer and the '47 Town and Country are beautiful cars. That orange thing could have been equally nice if done original. I likes 'em original, not oranginal. Stock rocks!
  10. Interesting and nice car but way too much "stuff" on it. First thing I would do if I bought it would be to remove a lot of the "stuff". Otherwise pretty decent.
  11. Front and rear drum removal are very different beasts. Rear drums on the old Mopars want to stay on and require the puller but front drums are held in place by a cotter pin, castellated nut, washer, and bearing which are removed in that order. If the shoes are not rubbing the drum it will nearly fall off on its own or with a tiny bit of movement as mentioned earlier.
  12. Orange is worn by Ulstermen of Northern Ireland on July 12 celebrating the Battle of the Boyne of 1690. Not celebrated in the rest of Ireland. Hopefully the troubles are over and not starting up again in the Emerald Isle. http://www.irelandseye.com/aarticles/history/events/dates/ch5.shtm
  13. Nice car. Another oldie in Missouri. OK price if car does not need much but still outta my price range and distance range. Hope someone gets it who appreciates it stock.
  14. Bob, I have heard of batteries exploding but have never seen one that did until yours. I am careful around batteries as I know they can be dangerous. Hope you did not suffer any damage yourself! Looks like it will clean up well. I see in the one picture that you have a wrench sitting on the battery. This is a no-no as you can easily (read accidentally) contact positive and negative leading to an exciting time.
  15. That set went for $83. A bit steep but if someone really wants it they will pay. That's the ebay way. I do sell quite a bit of stuff on ebay but it is a tough sell these days and my sales are down. Gotta be the economy.
  16. Didn't think of the firewall coil which my '38 has of course. Obviously the clam shell style would not work without the coil in the firewall. So the trucks had the firewall coil for longer than the cars? Also, just curious about the arrow style signal lights on ebay I sent you a PM about. Any luck?
  17. Ed, that is correct. I guess I like the look of the clam shell style because it just looks older.
  18. My '48 Dodge D25 has the "tube" style like the first one that Bob T posted. I have never seen the other style. I do have the "clam shell" on my '38 Chrylser and my '53 Plymouth is different yet again without any tubes. I wonder why the changes? My personal preference is the clam shell but it was long gone by the time of the P15's and D25's.
  19. I had the master cylinder on my '38 Chrysler resleeved and it works fine. I assume you had a place who knows what they are doing resleeve it and if you did I am sure it is OK. As mentioned, there has to be a problem somewhere in the assembly. Let us know how you make out with the problem. Good luck!
  20. Fred, too bad it did not work. I am sure, however, that you will find a solution using "old car determination". I have had varying degress of success with JB Weld, usually good. It is a product I like and use when necessary. Good luck with your repair.
  21. Here is the dash on my '38 Chrysler. I had a fellow do this for me but next time, if and when I redo my '48 Dodge dash, I want to try it myself. I painted it a solid colour years ago. One question I have is can the dash be woodgrained when in the car?
  22. I usually learn something every day on this forum and this thread is a good example.
  23. Agree and disagree. Yes, the office should be respected no matter what the politics.....although it is fine to strongly, yet respectfully, present your opposing opinion. That is what democracies are about. Not so sure about showing respect once they are out of office. They make their bed and they have to lie in it. There are retired politicians I would not cross the street to see and I would not shake their hand if I met them because I think they were/are genuine ass****s. This is not aimed at any politician in particular, but politicians in general.....local, provincial, state, federal.
  24. I like the rocker trim. They add a nice touch to the car, especially if painted a darker colour.
  25. Irish Spring soap has always worked for me in my motorhome and my old cars. Touch wood!
