  1. Every time I have used the down the carbs trick with sea-foam or ATF or anything else on my car the spark plugs fowl to the point I must remove and clean them. Once I remove, clean, and reinstall them the engine runs great. I do keep the RPM's high. I have used this trick on many engines over the years and never had the plug fouling issues like I do on my Desoto engine. In the old days I used to add ATF to the back jets on a 4-bbl carburetor. Then go for a ride. First time I floored it I would put out a huge smoke screen.
  2. Rodney; You dont want to make me mad:D
  3. James; I am surprised George did not send his recommended synthetic oil with the transmission. Last year when I rode with Richie to Pennsylvania to pick up his fresh overdrive George sent the oil with the transmission. Were it me I would not run anything less than the heavy GO-90 (smeels like fish oil) or a synthetic equivelent.
  4. Greg; Try McMaster Carr. They will sell whatever size you need. They normally ship next day and I have found there prices are very fair. http://www.mcmaster.com/ Material > Shape > ThicknessView catalog pages (2) Compare products (15) Plastics 15 products match your selections Material ABS Backing Plain Back Shape Sheets, Bars, Strips, and Cubes Thickness 1/8" Tolerance Standard UL Rating UL 94HB | UL 94V0 Length 12" | 24" | 36" | 48" | 54" | 8' Width 12" | 24" | 36" | 48" | 54" ABS Material ABS: Tough and impact-resistant, this material works well for protective applications such as small appliance housings. ABS/PVC: Great for use in applications where dust and static electricity are problems. Material combines the best features of PVC and ABS for corrosion resistance with high-impact strength. It's electrically conductive and has a slightly textured finish on one side. Opaque materials block the passage of light. Translucent materials allow the passage of light, but not necessarily a clear view of what lies beyond. Clear materials allow view of what lies beyond without obstruction or haziness. Opaque Beige Black Operating Temperature Select the level of low and high temperature resistance that best approximates your need. Before purchasing a product, verify that the Operating Temperature Range is suitable for your application. These selections are meant only as a general guide. Lowest Temperature Not Rated Highest Temperature +100° to +200° F Not Rated Performance Characteristic High Impact Strength Greater ability to withstand forceful sudden impact (similar to hammer strike). Generally withstands 5 foot-pounds of energy per inch of thickness under normal conditions. Static Dissipative Often protects against static electricity. Allows moderate level of electrons to flow across surface or through mass. Generally has surface resistivity of 106-108 ohms per square inch. Flame Retardant Contains additive that significantly reduces or retards tendency to burn. Specifications Met Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Compliant | Underwriters Laboratories (UL)
  5. I sold some parts on the bay to this pictured lady who is restoring a custom Hudson her father built. There are several other ladies on other forums I frequent who also are doing there own work. What does a professional historian do?
  6. Eric; Glad you had a nice drive. You should drive to Tulsa and meet up with a bunch of us.
  7. Size is a big (is there a pun buried here somewhere) issue for me. I have never been able to put on a pair if surgical gloves without ripping them to shreads. I work in a Federal Reserve Bank. Bank policy (after 911) dictates that all incoming packges (UPS, USPS, FED-EX, etc) must be first x-rayed then taken to a special room with an expensive venting system (that is not very effecient in my opinion) and opened by a person (sometimes me) who must first don surgical gloves and a face mask. All of this is being filmed and recordrd by the in house police force. The members of this police force all carry guns. They block traffic using automatic weapons when the armored trucks arrive and enter the building to make a cash deposit. They are a force not to be messed with. Everytime I do my duty and put on the surgical gloves to open these packages they rip and tear as my hands are way too big for the gloves. I made the mistake of by-passing this procedure last week when a UPS envelope arrived with fresh supplies sent from my employer. The in house police soon knocked on my door and made me aware that the system must not be by-passed. So I will continue to don the small ripped up gloves and wear the face mask and stand in front of the inadquaite exhaust system as required. But I do not wear surgical gloves when I work on my car.
  8. Ed; My wife Lisa gave up "keeping an eye" on me years ago. That would have been a full time profession for her. Now days she just reminds me to stay in line using the cattle prod as required. May 14th marks 25 years for Lisa and I.
  9. James; I will send you a distributor. I need to find a working vacuum advance for it.
  10. Tim; So far you have every bell and whistle ever invented plus some that have not yet been invented tucked away incognito in your big butt coupe. Why would you want to use a hydraulic pressure switch for your brake lights? Guess you could find a limey Lucas switch as that would not be the only limey gismos on your big butt:D However take Norm's and my advice. Install one of these.
  11. James; Have not heard anything about your distributor machine. How is it working? Have you given any more thought on driving to Tulsa?
  12. I was just thinking a few moments ago of what carburetor work I need to plan for in the next 3.5 years. Anyone know a really good carburetor guy who might be able to squeeze my projects in?
  13. Fj?? What the heck is an Fj??? I dont have time to race no fools junk! I will be looking for you in Tulsa!
  14. Spitfire heads were only used on Crashler engines. So the head you have will work only on long block engines. It will not work on American made Dodge and Plymouth cars.
  15. Pete; I have had that site bookmarked for a couple of years. How do you think I knew what was wrong with your engine:D I will be looking for you in Tulsa!
  16. Pete; I think you were wise to use the new studs. If I were using an aluminum head I would do the same. I wonder why you had so much carbon buildup? Espically after the sea-foam treatment. I gave my engine the sea-foam treatment several months ago. Did this about the same time I doubled up my air cleaners. Have not done it again as my plugs look like new every time I have pulled them. I will be looking for you in Tulsa?
  17. Pete; Glad you found it. Are you going to inspect the other 5 pistons? I also have floaters in my race winning engine. I have seen wrist pin failures before but normally they are on high mileage engines. Not sure why yours failed. Hope you are able to get the head to re-seal. I will be looking for you in Tulsa!
  18. Looks like this when there is a problem. This reading should be zero volts.
  19. Greg; Found this if you need some body parts. Different year but might be bolt on stuff. I have met the owner of this truck and he is a good guy. http://forum.olskoolrodz.com/showthread.php?t=33790
  20. Yea Tim but I was being diplomatic and using what few scruples I still have.
  21. I have installed a pusher fan on my P-15. This was done because I had to move the radiator forward 2" so my Desoto flathead 6 engine would fit. The first picture shows a stock P-15 setup in front of the radiator. Next picture shows my pusher fan installation. I had to replace my stock horns with others and modify my radiator bracket but the fan fits nicely.
  22. Where are your cruise ship top deck vacation pictures?
  23. Used to call them "South Bend Vibrators". Looks like the cats meow Greg. Bet you got a big grin on your face.
