  1. I stand corrected. I have not seen a 23" Spitfire head either. BUT the 25" Edmunds dual carb manifold with the DCPD stamped right on it is truly "rarer then hens teeth". It might be NOS which is remarkable. I'll start paying more attention Don.
  2. The 1940 Plymouth lighter is not chrome. It is similar to the one in the ebay auction. The picture in the ebay auction is too grainy tt tell but it looks more like a repro 1939 Plymouth lighter. As I said, it is hard to tell in the picture but the 1940/1941 Lighter is a cream color but different from the 1939. If some one can post the picture I can send the photos by email. Thanks roadkingcoupe
  3. Hi Don and the rest of the forum, Luck has it I have a SPITFIRE head and a Edmunds Dual carb manifold for the long block 25" Chrysler cars (located in the North East). The Edmunds manifold even has the DCPD stamped right on it. I have held on to these two items for a number of years (15-20) with the intention of putting them on my own vehicles. However I have decided they are available for sale at this time. If anyone is interested feel free to PM for details. I will be letting go a number of really hard to find parts including overdrives (one floor shift no solenoids, and one side shift with solenoid Borg Warners). Pictures and info available upon request. Thanks happy motoring, roadkingcoupe
  4. Question? Does the use of silicon brake fluid negatively effect the lifespan of the brake switch? Has anyone confirmed this to be true?
  5. The car in the photo is a 1941 Canadian Dodge D20 A/S auxillary seat Coupe(Plymouth bodied) original with 41000 original miles. The plane is a full scale mock up of the Avro Arrow a plane that was scrapped for some mysterious reason???? The photo is of two very rare Canadian made technology.
  6. The 1939 Plymouth Headlights do NOT have to be dim (at all). The inner reflector was "silvered" not chromed. As they age the silvering either tarnishes or completely corrodes. As a result they no longer have any reflective properties and yes I agree that they tend to look like a candle in the wind! By removing the inner reflector they can be polished or replated. There was a mention on this site or the POC site that a member had some hi-tech process of resilvering the reflectors but I have not heard if it worked. I have had good luck with bringing up the silver to a great shine HOWEVER the remaining silver is very thin and it is easy to go through the silver with a machine. Probably best to use manual buffing to bring them back. Yes in 1940 the sealed beam headlight bulbs replaced the old bayonet style headlamps bulbs and they were brighter. In order to retro fit the 39's with the "NEW" sealed beam bulbs there were a # of kits that replaced the "square" head lamp lens with a bulky unit that sticks out and away from the fender. In my opinion this detracts from the unique look of the 1939 Plymouth ( actually all the 1939 Chrysler vehicles). Best bet is to restore the shine to the inner reflector and then go with the new higher candle power bulbs as mentioned in an earlier post. P.S. I had this discussion with the curator of the Imperial Palace car museum collection in Las Vegas. In the collection is the 1939 Chrysler Sedan that was owned by Johnny Carson's Father. Carson spoke of the car on his show and received a call from the then current owner. Johnny purchased the car and donated it to the museum. The car sits on display with the retrofit sealed beams. In our discussion the curator suggested that the car was "original". He was so animated that he went and got a clip of Johnny Carson as a young boy driving the car up and down the driveway (he was too young at the time to drive on public roads). In the rare footage it clearly shows the original style headlamps as the original equipment. He then asked about the rest of the car and we went over the car for accuracy. When he asked me about looking at a corvette in the collection I had to inform him I am clueless when it comes to vettes. Here is a link including a picture of the Carson's car as it sits in the museum. If the link does not work just copy and paste it. http://classiccars.about.com/od/classiccarphotogallery/ig/Auto-Collectors/Johnny.htm
  7. Three types of 1941 Plymouth (Canadian Dodge) headlamp doors/marker lights. 1- Cast Pot Metal solid headlamp "DOOR" with matching "raised" marker light 2- Cast Pot Metal solid headlamp "DOOR" with matching "FLAT" marker light, (looks a lot like 1940 Plymouth Headlamp door, fools most eBay sellers) 3- Stamped steel outer Headlamp door with metal inner frame and seperate marker light. (Three part assembly).
  8. Interesting that George W. Bush is visiting OIL rich Alberta as his first trip to a "foreign" country . He broke the tradition of visiting Canada FIRST (went to Mexico instead) for his first presidential jaunt. Obama made his first stop in Canada as most recent Presidents have in the past. Alberta must be the closest to Texas we have in Canada.......
  9. Interesting news...... Chrysler threatens to pull out of Canada Updated: Wed Mar. 11 2009 10:50:07 PM ctvtoronto.ca Chrysler LLC says it may no longer be able to operate in Canada unless Ottawa loans the company billions of dollars and workers agree to massive wage cuts. Chrysler president and vice chairman Tom LaSorda told MPs Wednesday the company is seeking US$2.3 billion from the Canadian government -- roughly a quarter of what it's asking from the White House. He also said Canada's tax agency must agree to not demand more cash or collateral in a tax fight with the company. The Canada Revenue Agency is withholding $300 million in tax rebated and has put a $500-million lien on Chrysler's Brampton plant. "The current success and long-term viability of Chrysler's manufacturing operations in Canada is very much dependent on (those) three critical factors," he told a committee hearing. "Chrysler LLC cannot afford to manufacture products in a jurisdiction that in uncompetitive relative to other automotive jurisdictions." New Democrat MP Joe Coartin, a member of the parliamentary committee that heard LaSorda's comments, dismissed them as little more than posturing. "The bottom line is that Chrysler does not function in the United States without Canada," he said. Chrysler Canada and its parent company, Chrysler LLC, have had their sales hammered by the economic downturn. Its sales were down 27 per cent in February compared to last year and it has asked Ottawa for a $1 billion in emergency loans as it works on its restructuring plan. LaSorda said his company's labour costs are $70 an hour in wages and benefits for both current workers and retirees. He says it needs to be cut by $20 to be competitive. Just last week, Chrysler announced it would be cutting 1,200 jobs in Windsor, Ont., by eliminating the third shift at its minivan assembly plant. The Windsor plant produces the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans and has about 4,450 hourly workers. It is the company's only supplier on minivans as two other minivan plants have been shut down in the U.S. LaSorda said that the company could move the Windsor plant to either of the other sites they previously shut down. The Dodge Grand Caravan was Canada's No. 3 best selling vehicle in February. Analysts say Chrysler is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. On top of the most recent job cut announcements, it has slashed about 32,000 jobs to staunch the financial bleeding, and has cut production levels by 30 per cent. With a report by CTV's Graham Richardson in Ottawa
  10. The red 1941 plymouth Vert in the eBay auction looks a lot like a car that came out of ONTARIO Canada and was built just outside of the town of Barrie. A friend of mine did the body work and restored the steering wheel. It is a great looking car and was sold to someone in Texas around 4 years ago. A lot of money was spent on the car and it looks it. Excellent paint and body! I do remember that the car has (had) the original front end suspension. Not ideal for a V8 powered car. Still a nice looking car. I think there is 60-70 thousand Canadian $'s (pesos) in that car!
  11. 1941 Plymouth Hubcaps came in two sizes. It is easy to spot them from P15 Hubcaps in that they have "itallic" style letters that slant from left to right. The P15 hubcaps have block letters only (standing vertically straight). I believe that in 1949 most of the other Chrysler, Dodge and Desoto cars started to move into full coverage hubcaps that went from edge to edge of the rim. The 1949 Plymouth still was the old style dog dish hubcap. Plymouth seemed to always be held back a year or two (maybe to keep it in its junior place). There are some exceptions.........
  12. Oprah won and we got Dr. Phil Story goes that they worked together on the lawsuit. I believe that Dr. Phil was brought in to coach/groom Oprah for the court room. She won......................and we got stuck with the homespun Dr. Phil TV show! "It was through Courtroom Sciences that Dr. Phil met Oprah Winfrey. In 1996, she was being sued by cattlemen who claimed she defamed the beef industry on one of her shows, and Oprah hired Dr. Phil to assist during the trial. After helping her win the case in 1998, Dr. Phil became a regular expert on Oprah, dealing with life strategies and relationships. With his catchphrase, "Get real," the plain-spoken Texan served up common sense advice rather than self-help jargon. His tough demeanor made him a psychologist that even men felt comfortable listening to."
  13. Tom Bryant from Plydo....did some horse trading with him. Supplied disc brake conversions and had a lot of parts and info. I really dont want to believe that this is true. Our community is too small to lose another MoPaR afficiando. Tell the people you care for that you love them....life is short....I have nothing more to say.
  14. The antenna was mounted under the runningboards. There is a guy on eBay that is selling the replacement rubber. If anyone is looking for a pair of these please feel free to email me for more info. Thanks.
  15. I have a SPITFIRE head that will go on my 41 Cdn Dodge coupe (25" block) along with an original Chrysler/Desoto EDMUNDS dual carb manifold (also for the 25" block). The Spitfire head came off of 1946-1948 Chrysler and it had the reverse paint job SILVER paint with red letters. I have never heard of the SPITFIRE coming straight from Chrysler Corp on any Dodge Desoto or Plymouth. In addition some of the larger Dodge trucks got the ORIGINAL dual carb manifold. Now thats a nice part to find on a junk yard tour.
  16. The wiring on a Fluid Drive carb is for the transmission. I am NOT that technically inclined but its always fun to take something apart to see how it works. If I remember correctly there is a small ball that floats up and down a chamber on the side of the carb. Since Fluid Drives can remain in gear at stop with the clutch ENGAGED I believe it is necessary to drop the idle. Of course I am not an expert and I sold my 47 Desoto coupe fluid drive equiped car about 6 years ago so. So its been a while.
  17. Here is a link to the car and auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dodge-Dodge-D11-1939-Dodge-D11-SUICIDE-DOORS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6210QQihZ008QQitemZ180142276877QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  18. Went to a bookstand today and picked up a Magazine called Classic Car by Hemmings and it is an issue dedicated to Plymouths OLD and newer modles. Quite a few photos and stories about the cars and the people that own them. CHeck it out.....you (or your car) might be in it.
  19. Went to the Thornhill cruise. Holiday weekend. around 300 cars, nice quality work done on an early 30's Dodge. saw a 1940 Plymouth Coupe, 1936 Plymouth, Canadian D25 Dodge sedan, 1939 Plymouth Coupe, Suddensix's Plymouth and a 50's Dodge and a Beeeautifulll Town and Country Vert. Not bad showing for our early MoPaR's. Great to meet and chat with Suddensix. Excellent weather and a good time. If you havent been to the Monday nights Thornhill cruise come check it out! Happy Motoring.
  20. Thats my 1941 Dodge D20 Kingsway Coupe. Built in Windsor Canada it is a "PLODGE" stock original with 25" block and only 42000 original miles. Thanks for posting the pic.
  21. Chrysler was sold today. Any chance Plymouth will be revived? Three months to the day after DaimlerChrysler (DCX, news, msgs)announced that "all options" were on the table for its struggling U.S. Chrysler unit, private-equity firm Cerberus Capital Management said it would buy an 80.1% stake in Chrysler for $7.41 billion. "We're confident that we've found the solution that will create the greatest overall value -- both for Daimler and Chrysler," CEO Dieter Zetsche said in a prepared statement today. "With this transaction, we have created the right conditions for a new start for Chrysler and Daimler." Cerberus beat out two other bidders: a partnership between rival private-equity players Blackstone Group and Centerbridge Capital Partners, and Canadian auto-parts maker Magna International (MGA, news, msgs).
  22. I believe that you are looking for a company called RJL. Sound familiar? Thanks.
