John-T-53, thanks for all the pictures. I’m sure a lot of us would like to make the tailgate and BBQ. Just not practical for most. However, your pictures really let those of us who can’t make it live vicariously through your pictures. The most and best of the bunch!

I would love to bring this old girl to the BBQ but it involves border crossing (not a problem with a passport) and a three, four, or possibly five day drive depending on weather and lack of problems.

It doesn’t have a tailgate but does have the next best thing…..a big butt trunk.

Nice bid'ness coupe! I saw an exact one like that years ago here in California - '52 or '53. It had a V-8 too, not sure if it was a hemi or poly.

  2. We always get at least one or two orphan makes at this event each year. Jim's brother's silver Kaiser showed up again, and below is Charlie's '55 Nash, with body design by Pininfarina of Torino. I really enjoyed this car.

AMC's thrifty 195-6. Note: no intake manifold.

The exhaust "manifold" is just a steel pipe with cutouts bolted to the block.

  3. The head was replaced with a new one (and gasket too).

Not sure what specifics on his engine are. It used to run on the cool side, now it runs on the hot side - not overheating, but he has to watch it. When under load it gets hotter and a couple times he's pulled over to let it cool. I think the water pump was replaced too....

I thought might be blockage or sediment somewhere...?

A pond for bathing? haha.... too many frogs and toads out there....

    Burning questions for the year:

    1. what/who is on the dash plaque... a '67 Corvette / Brandon.
    2. will JT have any more cool camping stuff to show off?  Caesar can't make it this year, so I'll be camping more low-profile this time. No shower, lol...
    3. will it be warm enough for the Kalifornians to wear shorts like me. Anything above 35 is shorts weather for you. Me, jeans until it hits 80.
    4. will Tim serenade us at the fire ... or do standup?
    5. will it rain Friday - chance of rain. Saturday, sunny but chilly in the low 60s.
    6. will I get sunburned No.
    7. will Zack live up to his reputation on the grill I hope so.
    8. who will be the suprise guest (will there be one) ....and what features will she have?
    9. who will win best of show. see # 8

    See replies above in "Red"....

Also, Orlando is bringing his '92 Cummins again this year and has questions about engine temp for the experts.... it's running hot despite replacing the head, t-stat, etc....

  5. SCS looks legit. I hadn't heard of them before. I see they offer many materials and in addition to cutting out shapes, they do bending, threading, fabricating, and plating. This should greatly expand the horizons on restoration needs.

They could probably even make a new battery box from the template that was posted on here or DPETCA years ago.

I'm an AutoCAD person, so my project list is growing as fast as I can draw, lol...

I believe I'm done my due diligence but still can't find a definitive answer to the exact size motor I have.  I know it's a Canadian Spitfire Flat head six, from the 40's but in order to find it a home, I have to be able to describe the exact engine size.  I've attached some photos, any help would be greatly appreciated.

.heic images are not readable by most programs. Need to download them as jpegs from your phone. Or email them to yourself, that usually sends them as jpegs.

  7. There is/was a small shop catering to classic vehicles, Volk Auto Construction, located on Santa Fe Road by the airport. In fact I sold and then bought back my '53 B4B to Matt Volk back in 2007. It's not coming up on google but it was next to With the Grain Woodcraft (which shows up on google maps). I think I have his number somewhere....let me look.

Anthony at Auto Experts on Higuera might be willing to work on it, although he does mainly mainstream repair work. He works on everything though.

Scott's shop also on Higuera seems to work on a lot of older vehicles, although I have never been in there.

Also check out Rhode Island Wiring - they have harnesses and diagrams for our trucks.
