  1. My new 1980 Chevy Van, with the 6, came with the 2 barrel, that ran on one barrel, then the second barrel kicked in later. The Van did ok, if on level roads, and no extra weight, and got 10 mile to the gallon. I pulled the engine, and installed a 400 small block, and got up to 17 mile to the gallon...
  2. Happy New Year Everyone......Took my little Coupe for a short ride yesterday on the last day of the year....
  3. Nice looking Plymouth you have there. I sold my 37 two door sedan a couple of years ago, just too many project.
  4. I do not have any trunk emblems on my Coupes, but the front emblems differ from the Delux Coupe front emblem have a ruby red background, and Bus Coupe have a black background on the front emblem....
  5. When I did an install on my 38,,, 87 Ranger 5 speed, 1995 Ranger rearend, I used trailer supply perches. 2 degree on the trans, and rearend. Driveshaft from a Explorer 2 wheel drive, 2 door. I did like Wayfarer stated, just snug the u-bolts down to move the vehicle around until you get ready to weld the perches.....
  6. I believe the difference in starters, like Dodge to Desoto, is the distance of engagement at the flywheel, for 6 engines. I have not read anything on the V8 engines... I would not be able to use a 57 six starter in my 56, either because of the engagement difference or the amount of teeth on the flywheel, I can not remember what the main difference is...
  7. My 56 starter came from a 6. I believe the Desoto 6 starter is different than the Dodge 6 starter.
  8. I have a 56 12volt starter in my 38 Coupe. I believe the starters from 57 up were different. I ran a 6 volt starter from a 1954 for years on my 12 volt system with no problem..
  9. My original bleeders have a 20 count thread per inch.
  10. There are many parts to the suspension. If any one or more has play, you will have a problem. Try jacking up the driver side of the suspension with a floor jack. See if the tire will move left or right, up or down, or tilt in or out. I changed my king pins years ago, the driver side had a little play.
  11. !/4 inch movement on a drag link is a lot. 1/8 inch would be a lot also... My 38 has very little movement.
  12. The stud is 5/8 inch. The loop, has 1 1/8 inch inside diameter. The loop is 15/16 wide
  13. Your 13 5/8 to 22 1/4 would fit my 37's 14 to 20.5 front....
  14. The 17 inch measured from center to center of the bolts while on the 37 four door. My 38 Coupe measured 17.5 inch, center to center while on the car.
  15. Is you axle close to the rubber bump stop?
  16. On my 37 four door, that has not been on the road in about 40 years, the shocks measure at a sitting height of about 17 inch. They will compress to 14 inch, and extend to 20.5 inch.
  17. Here is a photo of the present front shocks, on my 38 Coupe. Have to find my notes what vehicle they were for. The bolt to bolt length is 17.5 sitting. Not sure how short and long they are. My rears shocks were from a 86 full size Dodge, I believe.
  18. I have been using Fram C3 from Tractor Supply, about $10. Napa has filters also, I think a 1080....
  19. I had L-78 tires on a 1960 Chrysler 300, that was a very large tire. I believe the H-78 were closer to the 235 tires...
  20. I used "Extend" on my Plymouth over 25 years ago. It worked great, still looks good today. The past few years, I used Purple Power's "De-Ruster", that I bought at Advance Auto Parts. Advance does not carry it often, so I called the Purple Power supplier in N.C. and bought a case, was about $10 a quart....
  21. I had good luck with a little oil on my $5 1938 Coupe speedometer I bought. I used sewing machine oil on the gears, shafts, etc. Speed and odometer working good now..
  22. I have 37/38 drums/shoes on the front, that I riveted Granada linings to. I have a 1995 Ranger rearend with drum brakes. I used the Ranger park brake also, attached to my 38 park brake cable. I have not needed a power booster, even in hilly Virginia The small bore Dodge MC did ok also for many years...
  23. Many years ago, I installed a small bore 86 Dodge MC to my 38 Coupe. The MC did ok for about 10 years. Several years ago I installed a large bore MC from a 94 Bronco. I believe the 94 has a 1.25 bore. The 94 has done good the past few years. The foot pressure feels about the same to me. I used my original pedal assembly on both installs..
  24. Hi Fargone, I have been very happy with the 5 speed trans. Easy shifting, good gearing with the 3.73 rear, 3.5 maybe better. 80hp is good, but my 130hp 56 engine will do better in my 37 Coupe Project...
  25. Will you be happy with the gear ratio you now have? My Coupe had a 3.9 rear which was way to low for me, even with 80hp and in hilly Virginia. I made a temp adapter to try the Plymouth 3.9 rear first, glad I did. I changed to a 3.7 Ford rear that does better, but could go to a 3.5 Jeep for the best ratio I believe.
