  1. My 38 Coupe, with an engine from a 36, had the starter pedal on the floor. I bought a 56 engine that had a 54 starter with no solenoid that I added a wall mount solenoid so as to start with a start button. Worked great, but I later found a 12 volt 56 started to replace the 54....
  2. I used a 56 starter on my 36 engine, and I could use the my 36, 37, 38 starter on my 56 engine... There was a change in the 57 as to the length to engage the starter. With your 53 bell, you may have to use a 56 starter...
  3. Same here, on the covered bridges....
  4. I have seen Jeep XJ tanks on ebay, that may fit.
  5. Excellent job. I used a Walmart blanket for material on my 38 Coupe headliner. Still looks great...
  6. I went with a borrowed GPS unit to test my 38 Coupe. My speedo was faster than the GPS at slow MPH , and the speedo was slower at higher MPH... I believe since I lubed the speedo cable, numbers may be more accurate...
  7. Always enjoyed Bob and Cooper's travels, photos, covered bridges.............RIP Bob.....
  8. My Uncle's 36 Coupe had knee action shocks on the front suspension.
  9. It is hilly here in southwest Virginia. My 38 Coupe does very well in the curvy hilly areas. The 5 speed makes a lot of difference compared to the three speeds I hade used before. The 3.73 is better than the 3.9 I had before. I believe a 3.5 would be a better option for my Coupe....
  10. .The 98 Jeep inline is what I have thought of for some time. my 98 runs great, 2 wheel drive. 3.55 rear gear.
  11. Your 37 project looks in better shape than what I started with. I have a 98 Jeep, inline 6, 2 wheel drive, auto trans,I would like to install in this project. My 38 Coupe has a 36 or 37 engine, 5 speed Ranger trans, easy to drive. Bob..
  12. On my 48 Dodge, I used a Ford MC running a rod through the original MC, worked good.
  13. I have a bench seat in my coupe. The shifter on the TK5 5 speed is at the rear of the trans, so I did a little bending on the shifter, and added a piece of steel tubing, works great....
  14. In my 38 Coupe with a 36 or 37 engine, I am running a 12 volt MDF 6007 starter from a 1956 engine. Before that I was running a 6 volt that was listed as from a 1954 model car. I believe the 57 and up starters are a little different that the 56 year.
  15. This is the two barrel intake from my 56 engine.
  16. I made my exhaust from straight pipes, no muffler. Painted exhaust before install. At about 80hp, not too loud for short trips. On a 4 hour rod run, I discovered, I need a muffler...
  17. I installed a Ford Ranger 5 speed trans in my 38 a few years ago. No adapter needed on the 38 bell housing. Has done very good with a 3.73 rearend, but I think would do better with a 3.55 rear.
  18. These photos were posted on a different thread, for a 36 Plymouth, bolt on, no adapter. The caliper looks to be Volvo. I have not found anyway it could be bolted on without an adapter...
  19. I ran rain water through, and drained several times during the summer. Before cold weather, I flushed one more time, and added all antifreeze, no water. The all antifreeze has been in about 4 years now. I will drain it this year, and see the condition of rust or not....
  20. Don Coatney's engine was a Desoto, so a little different setup on the flywheel I believe....
  21. Happy Birthday John. What is most important, is that you like your ride, and enjoy it. Here is a photo of my birthday gift to myself in 1986. Mom said it needs a top....
  22. I cut some bad sections of flooring where the foot area is, and did not have to go under the seat area. The only bracket I had to install, was the blue piece. I made the push rod longer also..... The new Mustang II MC worked great....
