  1. Do I know you, Mark? I thought I only had the video posted on my FB page. Yeah, I would post it, but don't know how to on here.
  2. Tim, I used to hang around that Rockabilly group, but quickly found out that it wasn't for me. I'm not into tats on a woman, let alone on myself, as well as getting drunk and acting like a total a-hole. This Rockabilly culture today has the 50's very much misconstrued with how the 50's really were. I remember taking my car to one of their shows, and all I got was dumb remarks like, "Man, you should chop and lower that," "I like your 4x4," "What's up with pops?"...etc. Go figure.
  3. Very nice, Robin! I have some friends from France who live for the 50's. Not the Happy Days, Doo wop, wannabe type....the real thing: house, clothes, furniture, cars...etc.
  4. This past January, some friends of mine and I got together at an abandoned strip of old Highway 99-60-70 and highway bridge in Whitewater, California, just NW of Palm Springs off of I-10. We took our old cars and dressed up in post-war period attire. I had also taken along some copies of some original highway signs and shields that I made which would have been erected in that same area back in the 30's and 40's. The signs and post were made to exact scale aof the original ones. The whole purpose of this event was to recreate a 1940's highway scene and see how close we could make it look real on film. The great thing about this strip of old highway was that the old pavement and wooden guard railing is the original from the 1930's. The portion of highway and the bridge were abandoned when they were bypassed in 1954. The cars we used were a 1939 Dodge, 1938 Ford, 1947 Pontiac and my 1947 Plymouth. Ironically, the Pontiac was the same, exact car used in the film "Devil With A Blue Dress." We took different shots of the cars going up and down the road and also used them in the background for taking some candid shots with the signs, just like people used to do when they travelled across country to mark where they had been. All in all, it was a blast to do, and we plan to do it again soon, but with more cars and people.
  5. Hey guys....anyone out there have an extra glove compartment door latch/catch for a P15 that they might want to get rid of or sell? Lost my original a while back. Have been scouting ebay for a couple of weeks, but to no avail. Let me know. Thanks! Darin

  7. John, as I mentioned before, the turns because it fired up when I put starter fluid down the carburetor, but would stop after the fuel was used up. So I know it turns over fine.
  8. No, it isn't. It happened when I cranked the engine a few times after hooking the gas tank up, after the hadn't run for a year. It was starting fine before all of that. So could it sitting and not started for that period of time been something that could have attributed to this problem?
  9. Thanks, Greg. The only thing is that I'm running a 12v system now, and a lot of the guys on here have recommended not to run a 6v starter with a 12 volt system. There are some places around here that I'm going to take it to, today, and se what the charge would be.
  10. As far as I remember, Don, the starter was rebuilt four years ago and converted to 12 volt. Remember that my car is running a 1949 Dodge inline six 230 cid engine in it, now. I don't know if it's the starter is off that engine or it came off of the '55 Ply engine that was already in the car when I bought it. How interchangeable are these starters?
  11. No, no backfiring. It cranked fine.
  12. After I installed the new gas tank and connected the line, etc., I tried to start the car, and the engine was turning over. There was a different sound while it was cranking, but couldn't make it out. After the 6th try, the starter just started spinning. Could having not run for a whole year had something to do with it?

  15. No, it turned over, no problem.
  16. I don't know. I was trying to start the car after not driving it for a about year, and after about six tries the car stopped turning over and the starter just spun. If it was grinding, I really couldn't tell. I don't even want to look at the starter ring on the flywheel. Metal shavings everywhere. Tom...what do you mean by "shimming?"
  17. Well, now I know why it won't turnover anymore. @%&$!!!!!!! I only pray that the flywheel isn't in the same shape.
  18. Rich, thanks for your input, but I'm not running an original P15 gauge. Would this advice you give also work with new, aftermarket gauges as well? How does loosening the nuts on the back of the bolts adjust it?
  19. Doug, thanks for your input. The gauge should be good. I can't see how it would break between the changing of the senders, but then again anything is possible. Unfortunately, I have no friend who's into electronics; my grandfather was, but he's long gone. I'm going to do some ground testing and see if that fixes it, and if not, then start troubleshooting with the advice that you and the others have given me. Was going to do it yesterday, but had to work late. Thanks, again. Darin
  20. I just confirmed that the fuel gauge is also the same brand as the sender, so they should be compatible. I'm going to test it again, but make sure that the grounding is better. Yes, Al, I am testing outside of the tank. It may be just a grounding issue that's causing this because the previous sender, which I believe was the same as this one, sent accurate readings. I will check back with my findings. Thanks again for your advice, and if it turns out that's not a grounding issue, then I will refer back to the info.
  21. Have no idea. It was a non-Sunpro marine gauge, but worked fine with the other Sunpro fuel level sending unit before.
  22. Tod...the fuel gauge is also an aftermarket one as well...fabricated to look like the original. So, it's no longer a two-wire system. How is the adjustment made?
  23. Just purchased the Sunpro CP7583 Fuel Level Sender unit to replace the previous aftermarket one I had that was failing. It, to, was a Sunpro. Anyway, went to test it (connected it tightly and grounded it) and the reading wasn't a precise as it was with the one before it. When I moved the float to 1/2, it registered a little below 1/2 on the gauge. When I moved it to full, it registered almost full on the gauge. When I moved it to empty, it registered 1/4 on the gauge. I thought that it was going to be an easy "hook up and go," but it doesn't seem that way. I don't have an Ohm meter with me, but I'm not sure if testing ohms would matter in this case or not. Anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing this and what troubleshooting can I do to make the reading accurate?
