  1. Congrats, get some sleep while you can John
  2. I am a happy man , got the notice in the mailbox, went to the postoffice to pick up the box and aid the import duties etc (another 50$) but now I have the parts. Now I need to find time Tomorrow I need to fix the roof (replace damaged panels etc). So who knows I can start working on Sunday. John
  3. Hi Ed, yep, when I checked the car and replaced the oil (plus water) the car didn't start. Checked whether there was a spark at all and this was not really good. Then check the ignition and found the vacuum advance to be broken (presumably not from the flood). Also found a rust hole in the line. So I decided to get some new parts and do a quick overhaul of the electrical parts. In the distributor there were some electrical wires with damaged insulation. As I had to order stuff and have shipping costs I also ordered a carburetor kit and steering box kit. Plan is to first get the engine to start (ensure there is a spark, timing) and once that is ok I will do the Carburetor. Don't think I should do the carburetor first because I introduce two possible failures to start and then it will be more difficult to solve (my guess). Then next step would be the steering box. Will keep the forum posted , the car has not moved since the flooding of November 1st 2010. John
  4. After a long wait as the part was not available I finally could order early June. Then to be called after a week or so by the supplier (good service) that my creditcard was not ok, so called the bank and asked why my creditcard order did not go I was informed that the card was blocked. Then the lady asked whether I was not called? .....Sure , I am asking why my creditcard is not working because I know that it is blocked.... Anyway, already used another card to order and that went fine. So I was hoping for a speedy delivery but time went by and of course the horror for a lost package was forming on the horizon. Called the supplier and was kindly informed when it was shipped and I also got the USPS tracking number. Immediately checked where it was. So I found out on the 8th of July that it went to NJ , then to Bahamas and then to Miami. The latter is basically the right direction for Curacao. Busy as I am I did not check and waited patiently. But as another week went by I checked again only to find out it went back to NJ.... So more patience needed. Just checked and guess what : it has arrived at the post office in Curacao !!!! So now I hope I get a note that it is available so I can start working on the car again (it has collected quite some dust!). 5. Hi Bob, good to hear things still progress. John
  6. Fantastic ! Job well done. John
  7. I ordered one with Andy B recently. John
  8. Thanks for sharing, I like the color of the 3rd one (semi gloss). What is the last one? I love the double headlights and fins. Jhn
  9. Randy, that sounds reasonable, that is only 200$ per hour John
  10. Not sure how this works in other places. We have a Toyota Corona 94 model for the boys when they visit. So when the bi-annual safety was due I checked and fixed the obvious (lights , wipers) and thought it would be no problem (the car has been partially submerged last rain season but is running fine again). It was rejected as there was too much play/wear on the front-end bushings. No problem and I asked my mechanic what the costs would be, estimated 125 $ parts and labor. But then he called as he was trying to get the bushings at the local Toyota dealer parts shop. They don't sell the bushings as parts but you have to buy the whole front-end arm.... 300 $ per piece. Seems Toyota finds it easier to make money that way as stocking small parts doesn't generate money... Fortunately my mechanic found someone who had a spare set of these bushings and will fix it tomorrow. Really makes me angry, it is a rip off and you can't do anything about it. Alternative would be purchasing the parts outside the island but that also cost extra (S&H , import duties). On the other hand, there are shops on the island where you can buy bolts , screws etc per piece at very reasonable prices. Can you get the parts locally or do you face the same expensive costs for large replacement pieces? John
  11. Looks great, do you intend to put some protection (wax) over it? I found that the pitted parts I polished had returning rust buildup. Then I first cleaned them (with a Stainless steel compound) and applied wax , seemed to stop the rust coming back quickly. John
  12. Bob, I hope you will have no problems with insurance, I have just finalized my fight with them. They first wanted not to pay as there was no storm over the island (it was the rain from hurricane Tomas that passed our island). They got a lot of flag for that standpoint and I commented that there is no mentioning in the policy that the storm has to be over the island anyway. Got some money but it is still a loss in the end. Good to hear you are fine and picking up the pieces. I am sure you get everything fixed and then can look back at it with a smile. My car is still not running, parts ordered were not shipped as my creditcard failed. Called the bank and they said that is was blocked. So I asked why I wasn't informed and then she asked "didn't they call you?" .... uhmm no , otherwise I wouldn't ask. Got it sorted, expect the parts to arrive in a week or so. Cheers John
  13. Bob, good to hear things are going for the better. So now you can finally get that 4 space garage and scoop up some more classic cars John
  14. On a similar possible mixup: I had a checkup for a DVT (Deep Vain Trombose) and the doctor checked my right leg and commented that it really had cleared up. As I thought that she was checking for comparison I commented that maybe she should check my left leg where the DVT actually occured...... Good thing I was not being operated on.... John
  15. Hi Bob, just returning from a vacation, did see the news on the storms in the US but only until I read this thread I realized you live in Joplin. Glad to hear you and Mary Ann are fine, hope you will be able to get things going for the better soon. John
  16. Funny , I first thought you used the metal part of a dart (without the feathers). Maybe that will work aswell? I have a couple laying around so even cheaper ! John
  17. Hi Bob, nope, the vacuum advance on the distribtor is broken, I am trying to get one from AB but he doesn't have them at the moment. Next week I am on vacation, Singapore, hopefully after that he has them. I can then also order other things (like the rebuild kit for the carburator and probably also for the steering (bit too much play). John
  18. I have used "safest rust remover" : http://www.safestrustremover.com I used it on the window moldings (had a small setup with a aquarium pump) and these cleaned out perfect, then had these spraypainted. Still looks great. The dashboard was not done but was "prepped" by the same painter and spray-painted. Now the rust is bubbling again on the dash, wish I had the sense to do that prep job myself.... Still use it on small rusty parts. Just let it stay for a bit in the fluid, it also seems to protect against rust a bit. Great product, no problems handling. John
  19. Shel, is there a NAPA partnumber for a Carter single Barrel (stock). John
  20. once was talking to two chaps from England in a bar in the BVI. I really was thinking, I should stop drinking now as I did not understand a word they were saying. Fortunately I found out that both were from Northern England and had switched to their dialect..... Would have been horrible if I would have stopped drinking John
  21. Got an email from the previous owner, he was cleaning out his garage and found some more P15 items. So I went over to check it out. He had a 4 door as well at some point. Got two boxes with some small things , including the three cowl moldings. Also a Sedan brake light frame (very nice , didn't polish it but seems very decent). I have a coupe so not useful for me. One Plymouth the Luxe plate with the original red color. He thought he had two. I have a couple but not with the correct red. I now may have an opportunity to match the red in case I need to paint the front emblem or the brake light Plymouth wording. A French manual , interesting reading material ! I asked him about the missing read fender molding and the headliner bows ,he said he didn't found them inside. But while we were talking (he is busy with another project) he also looked in a box(or what was left of it as the termites ate most of it) where he kept some parts and he found some door moldings. These were for the 4 door he said (bit shorter than the coupe). But then we also found headliner bows and two rear fender moldings. Bit dirty but I guess the moldings will be easy to clean (not much pitting actually). The bows are rusty but can be cleaned and used. One seems to be weak at the end. I think there is a certain sequence for the bows, as I didn't take these out I have no idea what would be the correct sequence. Is there a way to tell or will it be a matter of placing them and see whether they line up ? I think the lowest one goes in the back? Anyway , nice of the guy to contact me and he wasn't finished yet with cleaning so he may find more. I hope he finds the missing rear fender molding though. Still waiting for the vacuum advance. Really want to get the Wabi to run again. John
  22. really want to see pictures of Young Ed pumping the gas pedal? John
