  1. Where can I buy a new grommet for my gas pedal (attaches to floor)? Is there a parts place that specializes in our cars?
  2. Thanks guys... looks like I got it working. Now just to button up a few things and take her around the block.
  3. Big THANKS oldmopar! I must have lost the spring when the brakes went out on me... can you also tell me where it connects to the vehicle? There is a little hole on the clutch, but that moves, so I would think it would be attached somewhere different. I have the clip for the attachment point on the MC. Thanks, Matt
  4. is the return spring internal or external? Do you have a picture of it? Thanks.
  5. Okay here is an update... I spent the morning bench bleeding and then I proceeded to regular brake bleeding. Here is what I am stuck on now: I started bleeding the traditional way with my wife manning the pedal. Well... the pedal will go down, but not come up on it's own. We pumped it by hand and started to get some resistance at the pedal, but it still was not coming up on it's own. I figured it was air in the lines keeping the pedal from coming up on its own, so I "rented" a vacuum pump from Autozone to pump from the wheel up to the MC. Well, it seemed to work great for the rear, but the front would not allow any of the fluid to pump through (passenger nor driver side). Any ideas? Thanks, Matt
  6. Hey Guys, I did a search on this, but it didn't cover my main question.... The Master Cylinder is currently installed, but I did not bench bleed it yet. I bought a bench bleeder kit, and it comes with only one adaptor. Being that the cap on the end has two holes (top and bottom but lead to the same cylinder), will the MC bleed okay if I leave the bottom hooked up and bleed the top? Thanks, Matt
  7. FYI, my TV with the built in DTV scrambles and freezes when the signal is weak too. I think the only way to get around this is to get cable or satellite.
  8. Is that the same year that Ponch had on Chips? Man I love that car.
  9. I may have one available. I am in the process of installing new latches on my 4 door and have 2 removed (they may both be spoken for), but I should be removing the other two in the next week or so.
  10. The 142 is the 1" and the 143 is 1 1/8". The 143 is what I had that didn't fit and they didn't have the 142 in stock. But since the seller is providing the parts, I don't have to order one now
  11. Will wonders never cease... My Ebay seller has contacted me and will be sending me the parts that I need. That kind of integrity is hard to find on Ebay.
  12. Any idea where I can get a rebuild kit for the 1" bore MC? I have a couple local (national chains) looking into it for me, but is there another route that I can go?
  13. Well... here we go again. Just to make things difficult, it looks like the master cylinder that I have is not for a Plymouth, but a Desoto. Not a big deal, except that the bore in the Plymouth cylinder is 1 1/8" and the bore for the Desoto is 1". Therefore, the rebuid kit does not fit. To make things worse, it is much harder to find a Desoto rebuid kit... so on the search I go again. Any suggestions? Also, does the Desoto MC look almost exactly the same as the Plymouth? It must right?
  14. Hey Guys, I found the culprit... It looks like when the cylinder was rebuilt, the rubber from the plunger got caught on the lip and then pinched when it was bolted on. When I pressed the pedal, it ripped the rubber, hence the leak. So, I pick up a new rebuid kit tomorrow morning. I will keep you posted. Matt BTW... the ebay seller is working with me and I may get some $$ back for the rebuild kit
  15. There is also a Kansas City show coming up in a week... http://www.meetup.com/KCClassicCarClub/calendar/9530094/
  16. Thanks for the replies everyone... Yes, I bought it on Ebay, so hopefully the guy I bought it from will make it right. I will look into the rebuild kit. Let me clairify the whole "selling it" thing. You see my first time driving this car was the day the brakes failed and I have been working on them for the last couple of weeks (an hour at a time) to get it back on the road. Also, this was sold to me in "daily driver" condition and so I am sharing a car with the wife while I get these issues resolved. I hope this explains a little of my frusterations. BTW, does anyone have an exploded view or diagram of a master cylinder that I can look at? Matt
  17. I had my brake go out on me while driving down a hill . I got the car stopped and home. When I tore it apart, the master cylinder was leaking from the front boot and there was no pedal pressure at all. I found a rebuilt replacement online and after a heck of a time getting it all worked out and installed... it is still leaking?!?! This is a completely different MC. What is leaking at the boot? Please help...I am ready to sell this thing over some stupid brakes! Thanks, Matt
  18. I see what you guys are saying... here is more the route I was thinking
  19. No chopping here... but the rat rod sled look i guess
  20. Yes, it still has the flathead six and and has been converted to 12v. It has new wheels & tires all around. A little cancer in the floor boards under the gas pedal and of course the spare tire holder in the trunk. I am not sure how bad of a word "Rat Rod" is on here, but I am looking to go that route but "nice". I will be stripping the trim and repairing any body needs. I will lower it a few inches and possibly paint it a flat or satin midnight blue. We will see what the budget allows.
  21. Yes both... I saw it a number of places online, but I bought it in Kansas City, so local to me.
  22. Hey All, I picked up a 1948 Plymouth a couple weeks ago and thought this would be a good time to introduce myself. I have lots of questions and look forward to the overflowing knowlegde that I will (and have already) read. Here are a couple pictures for you...
  23. That looks great! Where do you get a sheet of coroplast?
  24. I have the Hobart Handler 140. I got it from Tractor Supply that I love. It works with or without gas (Flux) and it is a little cheaper than the Miller or Lincoln. It is actually made by Miller, just their off brand if you will. I got mine as a manager special and it ran around $400. With gas it was a bit more, but I won't weld without gas ever again. Good luck on your descision.
