3 years ago a guy offered me $5000 for my 53 dodge pickup. Like a fool I took it been sorry ever since. It wasn't perfect by any means but I did everything myself. Bought 50 coronet. It is a lot better to drive which I do all the time. But I wish I would have kept the truck.
My 50 dodge doesn't have a resister. If changed to 12 volts you need one to keep from burning up points. I've had mine up to 80 with more to go./ Are you sure your getting in high range.
Engine pic looks like rubber gasline could be laying on head. If it was to melt a hole in line the whole thing be gone. Also looks like bumpers on moredoor are a lot better looking could be put on chopper.
That pin holds the pump arm. A word of warning my Dodge quit and I had it towed home. Iwas taking the fuel pump off and that pin had slipped out to the point that the arm came off. When I removed pump the arm fell into the oil pan. I put o0n an electric pump and that rod is still in the pan. Try to push the rod back in place before you try to remove fuel pump.
I have a 50 coronet. Looked everywhere for side trim finally gave up and dechromed and filled holes. Runs great and I love to drive it as much as I can. Shows 58000 miles don't fnow if thats all it has. Norust except 1 small spot beside lower trunk lid which seems to be a common area. These are built like a tank and are about that heavy.
About my statement about fluid drive crankshaft. I went back through the threads and see the fluid drive shaft had 8 holes and reg 3sd shaft had 4. But I saw that they can be lined up so the 4 holes will bolt to the 8 hole shaft. I stand corrected.
I put electric 6 volt fuel pump on my 50 dodge a few weeks ago. On the first long trip [50mi] carb started leaking real bad. After determining I was going to have to rebuild carb I decided to check fuel pressure to carb. Book says 3.5 to 5 lbs. I had 14 lbs no wonder it leaks. Now going to put pressure regulator in line.
May sound crazy but y brother was always after me to change to 12 volt because my dodge seemed to flood so easy and was hard to start. Now with elect pump I don't touch gas pedal and it starts right up.
Fuel pump died on my 50 dodge so I decided to go to 6 volt electric.Put it in and blew bubbles into tank. when I hooked it up with neg ground it pumps ok. Car is pos ground. Question now is how long will it last with pos grnd hooked to neg side on pump.
I had a 3:23 in a pickup with 218 it was fine. I have a 230 with fluid drive 4 speed I have wondered to about putting a 3:23 or something close in it. I wonder how slow it would be on takeoff.
