Went to madison yesterday. Hundreds of cars. They even raced on the drag strip. Great day no admission charge for spectators either, a miracle in itself.
If you got the drive train from radiator to drive shaft what would fluid drive have to do with anything? Just use complete drive train from radiator to drive shaft. Shift linkage would be only thing that could be any problem. My 2 cents.
Just put 8 ozs of oil in my fluid drive for second time in 2 mos. I'm sure seal is leaking can the fluid drive unit be taken out without pulling motor? The shop manual isn't real clear on this. I hope someone still sells these seals and that I can change it.
I had to remove the cover. It's a bear of a job. I would think it was just steel. No, heavy pot medal had to hold it up with floor jackto put in bolts. Then to put in plug I used a piece of paper towel over socket and pt the plug in socket, worked great.
Couple months ago I was checking oil in fluid drive. Yes I made the fatal mistake. Dropped the plug down in the cover. Had some ticker surgery so it sat all this time. Finally got out there today and took the cover off and got the plug. What an allday job that was.Bet I don' drop it in there again. I had to add about 8oz of oil to converter hope that is not a bad sign. The ole dodge fired right up after sitting 10 weeks.
I have rebuilt 4 engines in car. New rings ,rod bearings, main bearings, front and rear seals, and ground valves. Never had any problems. Did a v8 studebaker this way and drove it between Ill and Calif 3 times.
Don't have a truck anymore but I have a set of Illinois truck plates from 1953. Back then the plates said front and rear. This is an unused set with same numbers but both plates say rear. Obviously a misprint.
Sorry if I get a double post hit wrong button. My 50 was doing same thing. I retarded timing a little as per advice I got on here and that took care of it.
Beware of using cables on a jumper box to test things. Too much power, amps, watts , or something. I fried a radio doing that. If box has a lighter type plug that is safe to use.
