  1. 6 volt horns will last a long time on 12 volts unless you blow them for a long time. They are a lot louder on 12 volts.
  2. Been fighting this gyro for a while. Today I ran all the checks in the manual. Everything passed except the wire to the interuptor switch. Replaced that wire and everything works the way it is supposed to.
  3. turned the idle up a little, helped a lot. Could go a little more but I don't want to get where it won't shift right. gyromatic!!
  4. On my 50 dodge fluid drive. If I try to stop without pushing in the clutch it feels like it is going to kill the engine. It is full of correct fluid. Can these go bad and freeze up? Should be able to let clutch out on starting from stop. But I have to slip the clutch to not kill it. When I got it a couple years ago it worked fine. Any suggestions?
  5. Be sure and check fuel pressure after you install electric pump. Mine had too much pressure and over flooded carb. Used a regulator between pump and carb.
  6. the electrics for gyromatic get power from ign coil. After I changed to 12 volt and put a resistor between ign and coil I checked voltage from coil. It was still 6 volts so I left wires for gyro hooked the way they were. All works fine. I don't understand why I had to change to 12 volt coil and the drop voltage to 6 volt. I know I changed one before and burned up points until I put a resistor on it. Hope this makes sense.
  7. It goes down thru steering column
  8. I took ignition switch lose. Pushed thru firewall a little and cut off a couple inches of the cable so I could put an end on wire then pulled back in place
  9. I have my Dodge almost all changed to 12 volt. Now I'm stumped about the electric controls for the gyromatic. Any ideas how to drop it back to 6 volt?
  10. What happened to Bob T? Haven't seen him on here for a while.
  11. You can determine which trans you have by trying to pull shifter forward as to put in first on a three speed. Gyromatic wont do it. My 50 coronet had a gyromatic sign on fender. Where are you located in southern ill?
  12. kool cars reducer sounds like the easy way to go. Thank you 48 mirage
  13. Sorry I have gyromatic it uses elect to shift.
  14. I want to change my 50 dodge to 12 volt. I'm sure this has been done. My problem is how to keep 6 volts to the fluid drive. Any help is appreciated.
  15. I'm going to see about having it welded. I had already put a new bendix on it and it worked good til now.
  16. Had my 50 Dodge running great then the starter kicked back and broke the housing over bendix. Seems like it is always something. I'm about ready to give up and part with it. But when it runs it really runs good and is fun to drive.
  17. The long fenders through 1985 were the same but the running boards are longer for the round fenders.
  18. my 50 with gyromatic did the same thing. I took the drum off the parking break and found the bolt holding the shoe at the top had lost the nut holding it on. I put self locking nit on it and now it works great. the lose shoe would flop enough for it to try to lock up. Exactly like you said it would do it when backing then when I went forward it would go in place and no problem.
  19. You have to realize this is tv. Do you really believe they build these cars in one week or even one month.
  20. If you go 12 volt besure and put a resistor for distributor or you will be replacing burnt points real often.
  21. On my gyromatic if i push in clutch it will shift faster and at lower speeds. Of course this takes away clutchless auto shift. I just do it when I want a faster shift.
  22. My gyromatic has a tag on it to use 10 wt oil. The three speed might use 90 wt. I can understand the difference because of the automatic shift in hi and low.
  23. mine always clicks when it shifts..I believe in the manuel it says that is normal.
  24. I unhooked both radiator hoses, stuck garden hose in top inlet on motor. Stuck air hose in and packed a rag around it. with the pressure it flushed motor out real good. hasn't got hot since. Had a new radiator so just flushed motor. Also put a 6 blade fan on it.
  25. My dodge did the exact same thing. I put a 6volt electric on it. Then I had a problem with gas leaking out of carb. Checked the pressure and had about 15 lbs so I had to put a pressure regulator on it. Watch for that problem. I had an old pump that was in trunk so would have had an extra arm but threw it away 2 days earlier.
