  1. "remind me photos" ha ha. i KNOW what those are! my phone is blocked with them. as a suggestion, download a free resizer app and it will let you resize a load of pics at once allowing you to easily upload many more pics. i for one enjoy looking thru somebodies resto pics. hey i even find myself going thru my pho e looking at my own pics of past restos. its the best part of the classic car life to me. and again you have a real beautifully done car. be proud.
  2. thtas a real beauty you have there. great work with the resto. im sure i speak for others when i say lets see some more pics! love to see the process of somebodys passion coming back to life.
  3. that is a really great look you have accomplished there. i am certain a write up would be MUCH appreciated by all. Im interested in the types of paint that you used. great job!
  4. we share the same reasons for attending car shows. my original 48 P15 gains alot of attention from old and you g alike because as some peoe say its a car theyve only seen in movies. but it IS nice to win a trophy lol. nice car btw
  5. thanks for the back up. i knew it created a vacuum as the piston came up. the old decrepit leather is not allowing that vacuum to take place.
  6. it doesnt create a seal. the leather is 70 years old and not creating an effective seal.
  7. i posted the same question a while back and got very little response. i still havent figured out the proper storage. however, since then i have managed to find an original jack for my 48 P15. i will posta pic tomorrow if i remember to get one.
  8. thats an absolute amazing idea. its an opportunity presenting itself to you. be a shame to just scrap it.
  9. I have to rebuild one of my carbs as the acc pump is not creating vacuum causing absolutely pathetic throttle response and the carb is generally in need of an overhaul. Where is the best place in everyones experience to buy a quality kit? and when buying what material should i be looking for the acc pump to be made out of?
  10. i have to spend some time looking at this hydro dipping. i really like the result in the first set of pics posted and thats pretty much the look i would like to accomplish. i also will be reading through"woodgraining thoughts" as i see somebody has ressurected the thread. i have about 4 months before the far gets put away and want to be ready to go by then with whatever method i decide on. thx for all the input and pls keep it coming!
  11. while summer is here , or at least approaching, i cant help but to plan out the work i plan on doi g to my 48 P15 over the inevitable winter months. One task which I plan on accomplishing is to restore my dash with a woodgrain finish. Right now its painted and while it looks good it is not what I want for my car. I will likely not try to replicate the original look which is nice but a bit dreary. I will probably chase after a more reddish and brighter finish. some ideas i had were to use a vinyl wrap but not if it comes out looking cheap. ive also been looking at actual woodgraining techniques but am not sure if i can accomplish a good look. curious as to what some of you might have done in your pursuit of a restored woodgrain finish.
  12. thank you for the congrats. heres a pic of the car as it showed at the firebird event. bit of a gloomy day weather wise but it was warm at least. i was among the first to show up so i managed to get a pic of her on the beltway by herself.
  13. I entered my car in a local arena car show last weekend and to my shock it took home a peoples choice trophy. There were about 60 to 70 vehicles, some in amazing high quality condition, and my car came out a winner among them. It was the first time I had ever entered a vehicle in a show and it was certainly the first time the car had ever been entered by anybody. I got the car this year and spent a tonne of time and energy attending to every detail that needed attention. Looking at the car when I got it and looking at it now Im sort of impressed myself how far it has come. And of course Im hooked on the shows now. I showed the car for the 2nd time yesterday, however that show was a model specific show with an open invitation for all cars to attend meaning there were no awards available for anything other than specific models, namely Firebirds. still fun nonetheless.
  14. my 48 has a replacement drivers mat like this one. it closely emulates the original but without the metal plate. it even has a little rounded edge on the outer part of the door sill that wraps over the sill edge like the original. it was done by a PO so I dont have any idea where the material was sourced. however, i will be trying to track some more down as the others are showing signs of deterioration.
  15. plastic trim tools which look like a wedge did he trick for me. like said above just take it slow and one clip at a time. a bit of up and down movement with outward pressure will be necessary. alot of my nickel shows signs of an impatient person removing it by creating ripples at the location of each fastener. dont be that guy. get the right tools and take your time. youll be glad you did.
  16. I want to comment on a few differences in P15 years that became really obvious to me over the past few days. My 48 P15 4 door had painted bumpers on both front and rear when I got it and ever since I have been looking for a set of chrome ones. So for a while now I have been in talks with a guy who has a 50 Plymouth which he is sort of ratting/rodding and pretty well painting everything as such. So I ended up purchasing the front chassis and all components as well as the rear end from him. Parts are hard to come by here for a 71 year old car so it is a win to get some rebuildable parts. We ended up trading bumpers with me getting his half decent chrome ones and him getting my decent painted ones. Well when I tried to bolt up the frame of the front bumper to the chassis I discovered there is a good 3 inches or more in the difference with my 48 being wider. I would not have thought there would be a difference in the chassis width at all where both of the cars are only separated by 2 manufacturing years. Upon closer scrutinizing I realized that while both vehicles look similar they are in fact incredibly different. I did make the front bumper fit and will probably do the same with the rear but it sort of begs the question of whether or not the other components that I purchased from this guy will even be any good to my car. And for the record the owner of the other car was as clueless to these differences as I was. In fact he pretty well gave me a load of stuff above what I purchased, things that he didnt need for his build with a promise to give me whatever else he does not use. In fact Im sending him a link to this site so he can join as I have been pretty much raving about the awsomeness of bei g a member here and all that the site has to offer. Oh and also, the 50 bumper is of a different profile than the 48.
  17. Im in need of replacing at least 3 of the rubber seals on the vent windows as they are either deteriorated or distorted and ugly looking. In order for me to get them from ebay and have shipped to me in Canada it is just about $300 per set which is 1. ridiculous for 2 pieces of formed rubber. 2. not in my budget. Question is first are there and scrap yards that anybody can poi t me to in eastern canada or there abouts for used ones, which i know is a long shot. And doed anybody have any kind of solution to maybe making my own using a seal or rubber from another type of vehicle. I have already put an ad in the wanted section of this forum but it never panned out. Thx.
  18. thx. I will have a look. update when u have it done if you can. I'd like to see.if it works out for you. good luck.
  19. hey. just curious where you bought your guage setup. mine is busted from the previous owner.
  20. I just did the same thing, a whole brake system replacement on my 48. only difference is I honed some cylinders and rebuilt them and replaced others. I did the adjustments basically the same way you described, without a tool and it went great. it's possible though that the original poster has the shoes imbalanced on adjustment cus I know it took me about 10 minutes per corner adjusting and readjusting til I got it right.
  21. thx. I actually looked around the internet and found a site that identifies a tonne of guage bezels (guess somebody had a lot of time on their hands to compile THAT list lol) and it was was listed as a 42-49 New Yorker, Windsor Saratoga and Imperial. The crown emblem makes it different than the one on my P15 tho it could be used. And I didn't know til you mentioned it that dual air ducts was an option. thx again.
  22. ok so these parts are making sense now. I had thought that they were extras but now I realize that they actually belong to my car. my car is still fairly new to me so I'm finding out something new about it every day. when I got the car there were 2 "sleeves" made out of metal and a cardboard like material. they sort of resemble handlebar mitts for an ATV. ive discovered since that they deliver airflow to the kick panels. and now I see the pieces on the left of the picture fit in these sleeves. I'm not sure where the 2 "roundish" pieces fit tho.and the Y adapter is a mystery to me. if anybody has a picture of any of these parts in play It would be a massive help . thanks.
  23. The the previous owner of my 48 Plymouth gave me some parts today that he found. among them was alot of old redundant stuff like brake shoes sans lining and the like. however there were a few interesting pieces that I'm not sure what to call. there is a chrome piece as pictured that is similar to my guage bezel except for the lower middle emblem. the rest are not readily apparrant to me. anybody recognize them?
