  1. Hey guys, I have a 6 volt (tractor battery) and also have recently rebuilt my starter through a shop. My 47' P15 will not start with the 6 volt and gives a slow rolling roar. Out of curiosity, I threw an old 12 volt battery out of my 72 F100 and it started right up (literally turned the key and fired up in the cold). Does anyone know what's going on or is it alright to run the engine with the 12 volt battery?
  2. Thanks for the info, I will play with the gear selector in a few. Quick question, should the gearshift selector level be loose? Mine is very loose and I'm worried that the gearshift selector cam and shaft.
  3. Hey guys, decided to start and attempt to drive my 47' P15 but ran into some problems. I could not shift into gear while the car was running so I decided to try to shift in gear before starting her up. When I did that I released the clutch did not engage on 1st gear or reverse but worked in 2nd and 3rd gear. The clutch caught and I moved forward at 2nd gear but immediately stopped since I'm not ready to actually drive her. I fiddled with the linkages and noticed that the lever closest to the rear end was really loose and felt like it was not moving anything inside the tranny. I believe I have the linkages connected correctly and to the right levers on the transmission. My biggest questions are... 1. Is my tranny broken and do I have to find a new one? 2. Is my tranny broken but can I fix it, cheaply? 3. Did I do the linkages wrong and or am I missing something? Thanks guys Dan
  4. I have a 47 P15 and have run into the same problem with my clutch return spring, where is it supposed to hook to?
  5. Hey everyone, thanks for the help! I found out it was 180 out of time and it fired right up!
  6. Just did that and the engine continued to do the same thing. I just want to make sure that I am using the right firing order (1-5-3-6-2-4). I have the rotor pointing at the lead wire. My next course of action is continue to move the disturber around until it fires up. Also might be thinking for a new distributor.
  7. @Hamilton Okay perfect, I will go take a look at it right now and see if that changes anything!
  8. Hey guys, I bought a 47' P15 about 3 years ago and the engine (218 flathead 6) was seized up. I had a machine shop machine the engine and ensure that it was ready to be put together and runnable. I took the engine in pieces home and put it back together, while following the manual step by step. So here comes my problems, the engine turnsover, backfires, and spits from the carburetor. I put a new carburetor on it since the original was too far gone (Rebuilt it but it was leaking from everywhere). The following is what I checked and did on the engine to get me to this point. - Have the right spark plugs for the car and they are a tannish brown when I pulled them out from trying to get it to run for almost 2 months. - Carburetor is jetting gas after I put some directly into it (I do not think the fuel pump is pumping gas into the carb) - Rebuilt the fuel pump. - Put a timing light and have everything TDC but the distributor seems a little finicky. - Backfires from the exhaust, which has no muffler and is about 1 foot away from the engine. - Spark plug wires are off of a 1972 Ford F100 and unknown about the time the distributor was rebuilt. - Engine has compression in all cylinders. If you guys have any tips or guides for troubleshooting, that would be great!
  9. Hey guys! I am just about to get my flathead 6 cyl. back from the machine shop and I was wondering if anyone has a pdf on how to rebuild the engine. Hopefully, it would have all the information to ensure the engine runs good. My project is a 47' Plymouth Sedan! Still wondering if I am going to finish it after the engine is complete.
  10. Hey guys, I own a 1947 plymouth P15 and was wondering what I paint the inside of the engine bay. I believe the side panels within the engine bay should be black, but what about the body that is under the hood? Thanks
  11. The cab is not too bad. I just had a lot better one that saved me a ton of money.
  12. The body is completely stripped. I have all the doors and everything off the car. I'm in Millstone NJ. Also let me find some pictures.
  13. Its the body of the car! Sorry, have the habit of calling it a cab.
  14. Hey guys, I just recently removed the cab on my 1947 plymouth and replaced it with my better cab. I got this extra cab now and was wondering if anyone knew a good place that would buy a cab like this in the NJ area? Or if it's a good idea to just scrap it? I am getting impatient with the cab sitting in my backyard collecting dirt. If anyone could help or give some info that would be helpful.
  15. Thanks this actually helped alot!
  16. I was wondering if classic car shops or shops that sell parts for antique cars will buy parts from you? I don't know if people already do this or this is something that does not happen, but I was hoping if anyone had any ideas or previous experience! I got a bunch of P-15 parts that I'm trying to get rid of in one clean sweep and not sell individually over eBay!
  17. Awesome, thanks for a few ideas and insight!
  18. Hey guys, I got my 1947 Plymouth Sedan in late July and finally got it all stripped inside and out. One thing I was wondering was what to do for the interior! The interior was non-existent in the car but I have the frames for everything. What is the best thing to do for an interior in this car? I was hoping for someone to point me in the right direction for an interior kit or just DIY it. Thanks, Dan
  19. Let me know what you need and I can see what I got. Write me at daniel.leisher@gmail.com
  20. Most definitely, please email me at daniel.leisher@gmail.com This is the thing I want to get rid of the most.
