  1. Thats kids for you, wonder what the parents were doing as this happened
  2. Hi Brendan, I thought I did send you a PM on this before, maybe it didn't go through, I will sned you an Email later on the contact/moderator of the site, there are only 30 members, and it is a very quiet site, but lots of good info, form experienced members.........Fred
  3. Pat, you already know who he is it's Ed P from the 40s Canadian Chrysler Group, Ed has a lot of knowledge, and he is quite creative, he once took a 48 New Yorker Convertable and cut the body off it's rusty floor and transplanted in onto a 48 sedan floor, he said it wasn't all that difficult, this car is still in nice shape and being driven by it's owner in the USA
  4. Iwould have to speak with my friend, he is the one that has done the mod, he is also a mechanical engineering prof at a local college, so he is quite talented with this type of thing. He mentioned he pulled the dizzy and electronic igntion from a wrecker, as he had already converted to 12 volt negative. I do recall he had to machine a part or make a part for the dist to fit into the flat 6 block. If you like I can contact him for futher details, he said it wasn't too complicated, but it wasn't an easy direct swap, he also has no use for the Pertronix igniton system.........Fred
  5. Greybeard, what does Wallyworld call there oil in the states. We call it Tech 2000 here in Canada, the wallyworld oil here has to meet government specs, and has even beat out 3 major brands here in tests, Valvoline and Pennzoil are 2 of the 3 the Wallyworld beat out. The Tech 2000(wallyworld oil) is half the price of the other brands, the local Wallyworld oil change station Manager, knows I change my own oil, he claims it is very good oil, he has a lot of customers buying it in the 5 gallon pail. I use it on my 2 daily dirvers 2005 Dodge Caravan and 1994 Ford Ranger. The 48 Chrys gets Rotella 15w40...............The article is a wee bit of a stretch IMHO
  6. You can also use the electronic ignition from a slant 6. The distributor needs machining to fit into the flathead, this will work well providing you have converted to 12 volt negative, this won't work with 6 volt positive. I know someone who has done this in his 48 Chrysler and it works very well............Fred
  7. Some of my favorites are what we use at work, the Colt AR 15 9 mm Carbine, the Colt 223, the Glock 9mm handgun, the 38 special revolver. But my favorite all purpose weapon is the Remington 12 gauge wingmaster shotgun, great for riots in prisons. I also still love my old 303 British Enfield, and the ever popular Winchester model 94, 30 30 lever action....Fred ps I own a 1899 Cooey 22 rifle been in my family since that time
  8. Pat, although Alberta has much milder winters than Manitoba, I believe we have hotter, more humid summers here, you absolutely need A/C in your houses and cars here in summer, the nights in July and August can be unberablyhot. I think you guys are more prone to late in the year snow falls and even summer snow at times. But I have seen some snow here in early May a few times, never in June July or August. Winnipeg has had snow in every month but July and August......Fred
  9. Hi guys, its only Tremclad paint (canadas rustoeum, it's fairly thick to begin with, manuacturers reccomended thinning is 10% with mineral spirits for spraying. As far as the HVLP laws and regulations, they haven't got to my area yet, you can buy and use any type paint guns here, my nearest neighbour is 1/4 mile away, so I doubt my painting will annoy them. I have only 1/4 inchh id air lines, my compressor puts out 8.5 cfm @ 40 psi, it has a 30 gallon tank, should be okay for small jobs, don't plan to paint the car with it, just the primering. I have only tried this gun once, with a small amount of paint, I will definately need to tweak the settings to get a decent spray and volume pattern. But with all of my tools once I get used to it I hope it will be fine, I have no spray paint experience with automotive paints, but I am aware of viscosity mixture requirements...........Thanx Fred
  10. Larry, lilacs are like flat head 6s there almost bullet proof. Hey lets face it lilacs will tolerate the winter here in Manitoba, and even further north than here, mother nature knows how to take care of it's own. Peaches and apricot trees, thats a different story, in Southern Ontario they grow Apples, apricots peaches, plum, pears, grapes, commercially, they have very mild winters as compared to Manitoba. the difference between Kansas and California, are like Manitoba and British Columbia (Vancouvers province)........It's very windy, sunny and about 25 here today, but the snow is drifting like crazy........Fred
  11. No I havent Bill, I might try it with enamel paint to paint the trumpet horns on my 48, I will thin the paint by 10 % or so as it is a thick enamel almost like POR 15, will post results after I try................Fred
  12. Hey guys, I won't complain after hearing what you 2 are getting in your areas. We just got a dusting of snow in the last 2 days, it's about 30 degrees right now and overcast. But I have the garage at 55, just with one heater, if the other one was on it would go over 70 easily. Just finished painting my firewall, inner fender and front apron, rad frame etc. I am not happy with my finished product, it was dificult to prep and clean with the engine in and the front clip all together. At least it's painted and protecting the steel, if I evr pull the engine or the front clip(fenders and hood), I can sand it and do a proper job,I painted it satin black with Tremclad rust paint........Cheers and god bless the snow blower
  13. Larry, it's always an old fashioned winter here, bring on the global warming, I am sick of winter at this point, today it was a balmy 32 degrees here in my yard. It was a beautiful day, but winter nonetheless, in about 4 weeks spring should be on it's way. In Kansas and Missouri, you guys will have leaves on the trees in about 4 weeks, am I correct, think I remember travelling through your area years ago one April and think I remember the lilacs blooming. Here in Manitoba the lilacs don't bloom until about May 20 to June 10. We plant our gardens around May 15 to June 1st............Fred
  14. Believe me silicone is tough stuff, I have made several large fish tanks using clear and black silicone, and water and water pressure is quite taxing on the glass joints, thanx for the tip.............Fred
  15. POR 15 should be used in temps of 10c or 50 f and higher, this paint has a moisture cure properties. The higher the relative humidity, the faster the paint dries, do not sweat or accidently get moisture in the paint, it will not be so good after that. This paint if not used in it's entirety will lock the paint lid on so tight it won't come off, either use it all in one shot or pour it from one container to to the other without getting it on the rim, or put a sheet of plastic on before covering it with the lid, it may work. Visit the POR 15 website for more info, the paint is very tough, but there is also a Zero Rust, ( they have lots of colors) paint, much less expensive and just as good, and there is Eastwoods Rust encapsulator. The POR is expensive stuff, I use Tremclad (Canadas Rustoleum), it's a very tough rust paint, but a lot cheaper in price..The Rock
  16. Here in Manitoba, we have had about 4 to 6 inches of snow in the last week, this morning we had some freezing rain, making for a tough ride to work at 630 AM. It's snowing a bit right now, temps are around 30 degrees, I am getting darn sick of this weather, this is about the time of year, that this weather really starts to get on my nerves, my ride home tonight which included about 7 miles over the bog on Hwy 67, was near white out, I was only going 40 to 45 mph, once past the open bog, it was still snowing but I could see for miles. Just think, a lot of planes land here everyday in weather like this.PS, I had no idea this thread would run as long as it had, my only wish was to send greeting from Manitoba, as I am so far from a majority of you guys and have not been able to meet anyone personally, some of you guys are lucky to be located near one another.
  17. Our Deepest Sympathy from our family to your's,in memory of Nelson..........................Rockwood
  18. Looks good Pat, the Tremclad paint is darn good stuff , if thats what you are using. Keep up the good work......Fred
  19. Not so fast Ed, I know it's warmer in the Twin Cities area than it is here in the Winnipeg area, but you never know this far north we could get a wicked blizzard in March or April. Glad to hear you are having nice weather there, it's been nicer here, but not nice enough to work outside yet, although I removed a dizzy from a car in my yard when it was -20 f for Don C
  20. Weather is always a hot topic and sometimes a cold one. I pay close attention to weather as I drive on a rural highway to work 25 miles each way. We also live in the country, so country folk also need to regard the weather for a lot of reasons. This morning on the way to work, we had a 2 inches of powdery snow overnight, I was exiting from one highway to another, when a snow plow was going in reverse at high speed in this exit lane, I could not stop, I was doing about 35 to 40 mph, he had created a very slick surface, my only option was to go wide on the shoulder and keep going, I was only inches from his blades, looked like something out of a movie, I just kept driving and got to work safely...............Fred
  21. Pat, if you want or need some new front end parts, king pins, bushings, etc, I know someone in Winnipeg who has a lot of this stuff, and I don't mean Norm Dumontier either, send me a PM if your interested, he has the tie rod ends also to go with this stuff, as well as other steering parts.Fred
  22. Larry, I was looking at National Weather Service for you area today when I was at work, I thought this chnage of weather would make you happy. Hey enjoy it, we won't have that kind of weather for about 6 weeks or so.....Fred
  23. Thanx Allan, I did not know that, I can buy a dual action sander form Princess Auto for $64.99............Fred
  24. Larry, come to Manitoba, its 30 here at my place today as I write this.HeHeHe
  25. Thanx for the replies guys, what si the difference between an air orbital sander and a DA air orbital sander. I can buy a discount tool air orbital for 34.99 and the DA is 64.99. After I san d the trunk lid I can spray Picklex 20 over it, this stuff only needs to be wiped offf and not rinsed, it's used by a lot of bodyman in America...........Fred
