  1. My 29 is totally different as the crank actually sits up in the block.
  2. And i thought but could be wrong that the neoprene would bolt in the place of the rope seal as a update.
  3. Unfortunately I only have the rope option on my 29. So i have extra neoprene just lying around
  4. Rope seals just suck to do. Im surprised that a 51 had them in it. Some vehicles accepted the new style neoprene seals i think. I would check engine and options.
  5. This morning I recieved my new to me distributor and a brand new timing chain ?
  6. BTW year make model and engine size may be helpful.
  7. I use olsen gasket in the Seattle area. They have Best gaskets and the old Victor brand head gaskets. A little pricey but what isnt nowadays. Great people very helpful.
  8. Im saying that a battery tender puts out a lower ampere, and voltage. Its supposed to maintain a charge, vut yes it will charge a dead battery over a long period of time. The op stated hos charger wasnt keeping up over extended cranks. But what im curious about is has the op got the car to run or not. My 49 chrysler i got running with lower compression numbers than that. So i would think we need to work more with the fuel and spark.
  9. So i have had a hesitation with the car for most of the summer. Feels fuel related. Falls on its face then takes off. Anything over 1/2 throttle seems to be no difference. Middle plugs fouled and end plugs dry. Seams like fuel not atomizing well. Updraft carburetor hard to find. Made every adjustment imaginable with fuel and spark. Now its winter slumber so its time to tear apart stuff. I ordered a parts carburetor and a Delco Remy distributor. Different distributor for parts availability and the parts carb to try different jets. The parts carb also had an updated adjustable main jet in it something i have been looking for. As always I will post pictures and updates regularly.
  10. To my belief a battery tender puts out such a low amperage that it takes a long time to actually charge a battery, its main use is to keep a charge.
  11. Interchange showing my timing chain is the same as a Dodge DA, available at meyers early dodge
  12. I found a chain for my 29 like i said and it isnt cheap. I could not find gears. My plan was to buy a timing set for a 49 maybe, the issue is three holes vs four on the cam and then maybe keyway locations. The holes i can drill out perfectly on the bridgeport, i might be able to do the keyway but im worried about the gear getting weak with more holes. And worried about the offset that there may be. U believe the chain will still be loose with 95 yrs on the gears. My whole engine has been a gamble as some of you may know but I think I did well with it.
  13. I can confuse everyone and say that my 49 Chrysler chain fit on my 29 DeSoto gears even tho they are different designs, and no i did not use it. I replaced it on the 49 because it was stretched out and did not use it on my 29. But im going to replace the 29 this year since i couldn't find one but with the info up above i was able to find a chain for 29-33 on Meyers dodge site. The interchange looks good.
