  1. 75 years ago today they were boys and young men, they suffered through the gangster era of the 20s, the depression era of the 30s.......and were asked to step up one more time to rid the world of tyranny in the 40s and 50s. Hitler, Stalin, Musollini, Franco, Tojo and somewhat later Mao......what a collection of A$$holes the the world had to deal with...the Last of the Dictators bent on world domination. The Greatest generation is now down to its last few Veterans and in the next 10 years it is likely they will all be gone. So if you know a WWII vet, give him or her a hug or call or drop a letter letting them know how much they mean to us.....Most of them will mumble their thanks and proclaim that they did nothing special, anyone could have done it they will say [don't you believe it] then with a teary eye or a steely gaze they will tell you they are not heroes, only the men who sacrificed their lives can claim that distinction. Thank you for reading this.

  2. Just wanted to take a moment to write some appreciation I have had for this forum. I am new to this forum, but not to many and I have to say, it is quite refreshing to see people helping each other is a positive, supporting way. Every other forum I have been on from present day cars, motorcycle, to everyday home repair has it’s share of negativity. Although I haven’t been a member of this forum for that long, I have been treated with the upmost respect. Individual taking the time out of their busy days to help me through my issues. As I begin my journey repairing my 51 B3, I now know I have a great community to bounce ideas off of and share my progress with. Thanks again, Nick

  3. When the '48 first entered my shop the cool translucent hood ornament began begging for attention. I really expected to see a defunct bulb socket in the hood crystal but none was present. The ornament on my car is crazed from age but still in nice condition. However, when pondering lighting options I was concerned an incandescent bulb would run hot enough to damage the 70-year-old plastic. Some time perusing the huge auction site with a host of Chinese connections turned up the solution. Here is the 6v LED light bar I ordered for the whopping sum of $1.69........including shipping from China! Two color temps are offered, daylight and soft white. I went with the soft white (2700K) because it would be very close to the color of the headlights. The strip is the perfect size to fit in the hood ornament, the only installation required is to carefully solder power and ground wires to the strip. I insulated the connections with heat shrink tubing, attached the ground wire under one of ornament mounting nuts, and ran the power wire down the hood to an in-line fuse at the low beam terminal on the dimmer switch. This thing really looks cool! If I decide to spend some mad money I may splurge for a new repop ornament. I'm positive I can hear the old P15 chuckling when I drive it around town at night.

  6. I joined this forum back in 2007..... Since then I have made lifetime friends across the globe. I've met so many members here from different backgrounds and it just doesn't seem to end. Trucks, are a working man's partner....doesn't always end when the wheels fall off, but maybe put safely behind the barn for safe keeping. Its when your son, or your grandson pulls the weeds aside, sees that grille staring back at them, that the sun rises again for the old iron. I'll always enjoy hearing a good story about a truck being loved enough, to be brought back to life, to take another shot at carrying the weight on its frame. I think there is a lot of good people here, and its nice to hear newer members agree. 48D

  9. Instead of simple butt connectors to wire the turn signal switch into the P15, I mounted terminal strips on the steering column so connections could be quickly modified if necessary. The wire bundle from the switch was sheathed in shrink wrap and the terminal strips are attached to the column with a simple fabricated aluminum bracket and worm clamps. Here is one source for the terminal strips: https://www.ebay.com/itm/222183858589 Each strip accommodates four connections so two strips were mounted back-to-back so all seven of the wires coming out of the switch could be connected. Since one terminal is connected to the power bus it offers a convenient place to tap into power if other accessories are needed. The single filament light sockets were modified to dual filament with these commonly used adapters: The Plymouth now has three brake lights, one in each taillight and the original light on the trunk lid.

  11. Howdy all, I have been meaning to post this for a while now but I keep forgetting. A while back I was looking into which paint strippers worked the best. In the past I have always used Klean Strip or Aircraft Stripper so have most of the shops that Ive worked at but I figured I would check to see if there was anything new that I was unaware of that might be better. Anyway, when I did the search I found that on 3-15-2019 the EPA announced that they are going to ban strippers that contain methylene chloride due to deaths from "exposure" such as using it without protection and in enclosed spaces etc. It appears that the ban only pertains to retail consumers not businesses. Im not sure when the ban will take effect. Auto paint supply shops will still carry it though for those that have working relationships with them. Walmart only carries the reformulated type now but at least for now our local Ace still carries the stripper that contains methylene chloride as well as the "safe" stuff. The reformulated "safe" stripper works but not nearly as good. Im sure most of the folks here already know that the chemical stripper in question is some mighty strong stuff and that using common sense and taking the necessary safety precautions such as the proper type long gloves eye protection, clothing, etc and using it in a well ventilated area are of paramount importance when using it . Lets face it the "good stuff" can and will burn the heck out of you if you happen to get a drip on your skin or catch a good whiff of it. Anyway I wanted to pass this on to yall just in case anyone was planning to remove paint with chemical stripper in the future. If so you might want to grab some. John

  13. I recently read that the vast majority of those killed on the beaches on D-day were under 20 years old. Hard to think of those old men we say today as having once been a teenager storming the beaches under withering gun-fire. Greatest Generation indeed. We all owe them our way of life today. ?

  17. I concur completely. While having been a member for some time, i didn’t post much because of reactions I have seen in other forums. After a couple of positive experiences and input, I couldn’t be more pleased with the support, information, and communication with members here. It’s a great help whether in searches of previous post or responses to current posts. Thanks to all. Todd

  18. More photos. I can see already that I'll have to shorten the spacers to accommodate mounting the old master cylinder to the frame. The spacers will be between the frame and the new plate.

  25. Our trucks are a little different here in Oz. My Canadian built (but Australian assembled) 52 DeSoto 1/2 ton truck has the internal rear vision mirror, passenger side door mirror, steering wheel horn ring, electric wiper, 802 radio, & under-dash ash tray. I pieced together my own set of 6v dual horns working from factory specifications... and I’m actually piecing together another 12v set for my 53 Dodge coupe truck at present (I have all of the parts but am yet to have them painted). I have another 802 radio which will be retro-fitted with all modern 12v components for the 53 coupe truck, and I will keep all of the old valve electrics for spares for my other fitted 6v (fully rebuilt) radio. i have fitted a USA internal door latch mechanism (which I picked up from Mark at the BBQ in CA last year) to my 53 coupe truck so I now have external door locks on both doors. i have changed out my 4.1 diff centre for a 3.54 for better highway cruising, but I am yet to install the other 3.54 in my 52 truck. I brought home a good set of bumper guards last year also... but your USA bumper profile is dirrerent to ours here in Oz, so my mate Hank will get a nice gift when I am back in CA for the BBQ in 2020.
