when they come to you like that....its a OMEN..! Long ago a friend asked me to appraise a car for his mother, kinda outside the collector years at the time but being an unmolested two door car I told her what she could expect for the car should she find a buyer, the type that, hey may dad had one like this. Couple months later I was told to come get the car for a ridiculous low price because his mother like the honest appraisal I gave her. My problem is I know how to buy, I can't seem to get a handle on the selling side...2 points

I’m looking for some thoughts on a project car I’m looking at. The car kind of came to me (I was definitely not looking for another project) and the only reason I’m contemplating this is because of what it is. It a 47 Desoto convertible that’s 30 minutes from my house. The car needs everything....rockers, fenders, tons of metal work to the body and doors, and everything else imaginable. The car is complete and has a clean title. The engine appears to be locked up, but I didn’t put much effort into try to spin it. It’s nothing I can’t handle, but I want to get a mental check on myself to see if I’m crazy! What do you think it is worth as it sits and do you think it’s worth it just because of how low production it is.1 point

Thanks Bill, among my accumulated stuff were a couple of 20+yr old 5 gallon cans of Industrial Grade oil based paint. I mixed the heck out of it and it came back to life, went on easy, evened itself out nicely and actually looks pretty good. I am pretty sure this paint had lead in it, I felt like I was back in the Navy again, grinding off rust and painting everything gray.1 point

Great to hear the nut rivit tool worked out. I have been trying to justify buying one for a couple of years now. Since I cut the firewall in my truck, I want to make a removable panel to access the distributor. The rivit nuts would really simplify that process. The running boards came out great. One thing leads to another and, before you know it, you have a shiny new truck.1 point

when I use the rivet/nut sert tool I like to drill the hole in a manner I can then go around the opening with a jewelers file creating a serrated edge for creating additional gripping force over just a smooth drilled hole...1 point

I have a '47 DeSoto. Just for fun, I'd like to see the engine compartment and the interior.1 point

He told me there’s been no other interest and he’d take $500, or he is going to scrap it. I think I’ll buy it just so it doesn’t get crushed, but at the rate I’m going, I’m going to have to buy a warehouse building to store all this stuff and to work on it! I think $500 is pretty darn reasonable but it’s probably going to sit a few years waiting it’s turn. It’s hard to walk away at $500.1 point

Measure the head length.. 23" either a 218 or a 230 ci. engine " " 25" then" it's a 236, 251 or a 265 ci. engine You also need to have the engine piston stroke measurement to figure out exactly which of the above engines it is. Above # 6 cylinder is a 7/16" hex plug...remove it and using a 10" length straight piece of coat hanger rod.....put it down that hole touching the top of the # 6 piston then note the up/down total stroke of the rod by turning the engine over one or more times to get an accurate stroke reading. The 218 stroke is 4-3/8" " 230 stroke is 4-5/8" " 236 stroke is 4-1/4" " 251 stroke is 4-1/2" " 265 stroke is 4-3/4"1 point

After 37 years of marriage my wife is not surprised at anything that comes out of my mouth and she gets a chuckle out of most of it. While I am in the hospital the nurses have a job of rubbing cream on my legs twice a day. I tried to cut a deal with them that they do my legs today and I will do there legs tomorrow. couple of the nurses said they had to shave there legs first.1 point

I’m still kind of baffled a little, but the seller backed out after we had a deal... this has been an interesting experience. I had everything figured out with him and then he pulled the plug because of a better offer (even though he came back to me with the price?). To each their own. I’m disappointed but life goes on. Who knows, maybe next week he’ll be back because the other person is a no show.0 points
