  5. Not for me. I hate the ugly bastids and see no need for them in a old car that is original.

  6. Hey Crew! Forgive my absence this year. Been a tough one for the Powell's. After 2.5 years of rehab I finally received an ok to return to work part time. Taking one trip a weekend for WW Transportation here in Burlington. Every Other week I'll be making deliveries a few hours a day for Heartland Packaging. Part Time Only. No Overnight Trips. The first semi I ever drove was a Mack. Funny how life keep rolling around full circle. With WW & Heartland plus S/S I hope to be able to pay for my free health care. Was out in the shop yesterday and "The Harlem Hussy" was sound asleep. Cheers!

  7. I agree. I can’t speak for all of America but The only reason there’s 2% unemployment in Wisconsin is because those are the 2% of the people that don’t want a job. Glad to hear you are back on the road.

  9. Hey Guys!! Thanks for all the kind words. Sadly full time is not an option. That's ok. That said, I'm quite happy being back on the road part time. I have no compassion for these "people" that say, "I can't find a job"! Since my release from the Doctor's to go back to driving the phone hasn't stopped ringing! Might need to buy a bigger hat!

  10. You can leave the input shaft in the trans to replace the bearing the easy way described below. The other way is to completely disassemble the trans, dropping down the cluster gear which then lets you pull out the input shaft on your 3 speed to R&R the bearing. A lot of techie work if you've never done one. So here's the way I do them if the trans just needs the front bearing............. *Remove the retainer *Remove the smaller shaft snap ring and spacer washer.. *Pull the shaft out as much as you can...... 1/32" to 1/16" is all you will get.. *Wedge and hold two screw drivers on each side of the bearing OD snap ring on the input shaft bearing... wedge outward on the bearing snap ring with both screw drivers while at the same time using a brass or dead blow hammer on the end of the input shaft..... light tapping the input shaft causing the the wedged bearing to walk outward and off the input shaft. *You will have to use two thicker wedge tools as the bearing walks back off the input shaft and out of the case further and further till loose. *Carefully lightly tap the new proper exact same shielded bearing back on the input shaft. Your old bearing should have a shield on the oil side (inner) of the trans and outer snap ring. *Install the spacer washer, snap ring , gasket and retainer once the bearing is fully seated back on the input shaft.******** *********Use care and no big hammer swings!*********

  11. Yeah... But the small front one wasn't installed causing a lot of input shaft wobble..taht long input shaft needs two bushings.

  12. He later corrected himself on that - either later in the first video or in the second video. By that point, he had figured out he doesn't need to replace them because they're already hardened. Overall, it's a pretty good video series.

  13. I got a chance to see it at last year's btt50's. I'd seen it in pieces and finally got to see it all together. that place is huge and my son, his wife and I spent the entire day Saturday keeping a lookout for it, finally found it as we were heading out to go home walking on one of the outer perimeter streets. Looks really good and sounds as good as it looks. Excellent truck to use as reference for a restoration or inspiration to go forward on your own project.

  14. I just read through your whole thread Mark. Wow! I'm just about speechless. And here I am excited about putting a carb kit, battery, and new cables in my truck and thinking I'm special LOL. My goodness, great work! I am truly humbled after reading through this thread. I hope to meet you in person this year at one of these shows, and see your beautiful truck! John

  15. The motor arrived today, I must say it was well packaged, thanks to 59bisquik, it's very much appreciated. Now I just have to finish up cleaning the engine bay, swap over the bell housing and get this motor installed and running ?

  16. Maybe take it to the rear fender then turn out with a little radiused triangle filler panel? That’d fill that running board space and give a nice line to the bottom edge.

  17. Just experimenting with different looks. I'm leaning towards 5" exhaust. With a nice turnout and in flat black

  20. Hi Welcome. Just a detail of old Plymouth ownership.....if you look carefully at that small chrome lettering on the top edge of the front fender just before the cowl.... I bet it will say Special Deluxe. super Deluxe as I recall is a Ford model name. The 1946-47-48 and first 3 months of 1949 cars that look like yours, are Special Deluxe for the nicer model and simply Deluxe for the slightly cheaper car.....all are Model P15. A repair manual and parts manual are the first two things you should buy.....they can usually be found in both originals and reprints on eBay. The grille and side trim are stainless.....other items regular chrome. Your triangular stop light in center of the trunk lid will have raised lettering on the back side saying "coupe"......which indicates the correct curvature for your body style. If you wish to use original small hubcaps .......Spec Dlx are 10 inch diameter.......deluxe are only 9 inch. A 1947 model can have either 16" or 15" rims depending on date of manufacture. All glass except rear window is flat....so if your rear window is good, take good care of it. New rubber gasket can be purchased. Lots of knowledge on this forum. Bob How about a pic of the dash and of the interior?

  21. Just my opinion but I would make every effort to find the correct length of throw out bearing sleeve before install. At lot of work to just try. I think there is a good chance that you will Not have enough adjustment to make the new shorter one work! DJ

  22. Not a bad find. If you are going to keep it original, get a shop manual and a Motors manual. They are a must for bringing it back to life.

  23. Thanks Harvie for checking in. I haven’t been keeping up with this thread, but I’ve been slowly working away, getting this car back together I found a fork at obsolete mopar parts and the bearing and sleeve from Bernbaums The sleeve is a little shorter than the original, but I think it should work by adjusting the linkage. The car is almost back together. Since the car was apart, I decided to rewire everything which has taken some time.I’m almost to the point of getting it towed to the exhaust guy. Stay tuned.

  24. I really enjoy posting things, even the small stuff. Mostly because I know you guys are as excited about the truck as I am, and that means a lot. I just want to preserve the truck, fix things on it, and actually be able to use it and enjoy it. And of course share that with all of you guys. I figured out how to crop pictures right on my phone and be able to post them so they are the right size to fit on this website. It makes it a lot easier than having to transfer pictures from my phone to my computer and then post them. So yes, be prepared for a lot of pictures. It makes it more fun. ?

  26. Sadly I could not attend Friday Back to the 50's, but spent a good deal of time there yesterday. My knee is having issues so not much walking around, but I ran into lots of friends and met a few casual posters here. I saw Mike's truck with his dually conversion and it looks sweet! Met a casual poster that has a nice old B1 or B2 with some interesting mods. In order the pics are of waiting in line, at the show, a humpy!, a panel, a B4 on a frame swap and FEF's first real rain shower (No leaks!).

  27. well FEF got his wake up call today. No mice, no issues except after sitting that long I have a small weep at the fuel line nut on the tank.

  28. Nice mid 60"s day today and I had time so feast your eyes! One thing I DIDN'T do with the quiet ride floor kit was to glue the insulation down to the floor....way too much work if I EVER need to pull everything. I taped the silver backed felting together and taped down the edges in the foot wells to hold it in place and put the mat over it all.

  30. first LONG trip, first time on the Interstate EVER (ooo 45mph!) and first day at the show...all good and lots of compliments! Only negative was coming home I had two distinct metalic "cluncks" about 1/2 mile from home. Ran him thru all the gears up and down, checked the drive train, nothing really seemed amiss. Fluid levels good, pressure and temp good...so....guess I'm gonna hazzard that it was possible shuttling in the rear diff and pray it's nothing serious and I'm over scared/paranoid still.
