  1. HI, I've just found this forum whilst looking for information regarding my latest acquisition, a 1940 Chrysler Royal 6 Passenger Coupe. The car has been modified a fair bit by the previous owner who was well on the journey to Street Rod status but sadly funds dried up for him. The car has a rebuilt 318 Poly with a Tri Power manifold backed up by a 727 Torqueflite Automatic trans. An independent front suspension has been installed and disc brakes all round. Loads more work has been done but I will run a separate thread on that one. I'm 38 years of age and had a fair few Mopars over the years although currently keeping the 40 company are my very first car which is an Australian Built 1970 Valiant Pacer sedan which I have owned for over 21 years, a 1934 Chrysler Airflow (project car) along with a 1966 Burton wooden ski boat which I have restored and is powered by a 230 Cubic Inch Dodge Sidevalve with twin carbs on it. Looking forward to having a poke around here and gain some more knowledge before I go too much further with the 40. I have thrown a couple of photos up of my cars, the 40 as purchased and of the other toys.

  5. Moving forward wanted ads are going to be free. They will still run for 30 days and you will need to re-enter your ad when the original one expires. For sale ads are still $4.99 for 30 days and if the software works correctly (and I have it set up correctly ) you should be able to renew it without entering a new ad.

  6. I would have thought that you would have asked the shop as they are the people standing behind the build......suggest you ask them what they prefer and the oil they recommend etc etc....personally I like to run 2000-2400 for about 30 minutes to break in the cam....the rest is done through normal unstressed driving for first 500 miles....

  7. My oldest daughter made it home for Christmas. On a run into town she decided she wanted to try out the old whale. She was pretty proud of herself as was I. Mechanical things tend to petrify her. Made my day!

  8. I debadge my new cars immediately. I especially enjoy pulling off the dealer installed badge/ad while still in the lot. I would rather drive with foam tape residue stuck on my new trunk lid than advertise for someone whom I paid and not vice versa. The photo is a remnant of my 66 Dart GT badging / advertising, now adorning my drafting table.

  11. The tell tale is the sheet metal air scoop under the front bumper. As 42 model production for all Detroit autos with the exception of those ordered by the armed forces, was very limited in numbers, this feature was a one year (half year) deal. The 42 body style with trim changes carried over from the P12 to the P15. But this unique item was not continued to the post war design. Chrysler's other pre war weird styling feature was rotating headlights on the few 1942 de Soto that were made.

  13. I have never seen a broken chain, I have seen a many that the chain has jumped time do to slack in chain and worn gear...in some cases the gears will take a hit...and in some particular brands it was common for a 'silent' gear to shatter and jump time...(think of better idea and shining light bulb here) this was common for more than one of their engine series...

  14. you should have paid and parked...and likely had a larger group of people checking out the oddball vehicle than some of the trailer queens...when I go to the local MoPaRs in the Park, I enter in the "appearing as original" class...I've won it and it was fun to see the snobs with their (admitted) bought cars gets fewer looks than a big old red truck. NOTHING gets "those" people more hot under the collar than see things like that happen...preconceived notions and all.

  15. I agree. We have been running a show for the past 15 years and ANY Vehical is welcome we have classes for modern muscle, most original, best restoration and even project Vehical. The common thing is an appreciation of cars/trucks/motorcycles/tractor anything with wheels and an engine.
