  1. actually I am too lazy to pull the plugs to insert the camera. I just hang a dollar bill over the end of the exhaust while it is running. In theory, the motor is a air pump and should push the dollar bill out .... period. If the dollar bill gets sucked back and pushed out and back and forth, time to pull the head. I claim my motor runs smooth and plenty of power, it does not pass the dollar bill test, almost ripped the bill in 1/2 As for the camera, such a cool item now that the price is reasonable. I suspect everybody will eventually own one, plumbers, carpenters, mechanics, porn stars .....

  3. Four of us plan on leaving Chicago and going to California on the northern route the first week in March. Then after spending time In California sightseeing, we plan on flying home. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated because none of us of ever rode a train before. I am concerned I will get extremely bored on the train for two days. One thought we had was possibly spending a day or two in Denver.

  4. Took these pics of various Mopars at the New England Rod & Custom Clubs Smoke & Iron Rod Run over the 1st/2nd December.......based in the city of Armidale in New South Wales this area is known as the New England area and is about 3hrs drive from my town of Grafton.......anyway these were a few of the mopars I found there, the channeled 34 Coupe runs a small block mopar, that front end is from a Peugeot, the 37 Plymouth Coupe is an ex US car, this body style was never sold in Oz, the 48 Plymouth 2 dr is also an ex USA car, it has late model GM Holden front suspension and Holden V8 and was painted by the owner, not sure what is in the Oz sourced 1949 Plymouth with the chopped top, the black chopped top pickup I am unsure whether its a Fargo or Dodge, from memory it had a small block, the red 1946 Plymouth Coupe was an ex USA car complete with about a heap of Bonneville and a Montana Dodge Boys decals on the drivers side rear window, it ran a twin carbed 230 and the final pic a 46-48 DeSoto was a strange one, it was RHD but supposedly an import tho it may have been an original 1948 import, it was a Fluid Drive car, lowered but otherwise a stocker..............Andy Douglas

  6. Picked up an inspection camera at Harbor Freight today to look at the condition of my valves. Thought I would share the results with the forum since there may be others like me who are too lazy to pull the head just to inspect them. This was taken from their more pricey camera which came to around $130 after the 20% off coupon and tax. Of note, I used the cheaper camera that was around $60 first but ended up returning it. The cheaper camera looks just about as good for picture quality but does not have the ability to save pictures to a memory card or directly to your pc. For me, I thought paying double was worth it but others probably won't. Also, I think you might be able to find cheap $30 scopes on Amazon that connect to your phone but not sure if they are any good.

  9. 3 speed transmissions in Dodge trucks have synchros since at least the 40's, and with the introduction of the column shift 3 speed in 1950 they certainly would be synchronized. (at least in 2nd and 3rd) It was the 4 speed trans that remained a spur gear type up through '50-'51. The B3 trucks were the first to get a synchro 4 speed.

  10. Camera technology has come a long way in the past 50-60 years. I have had a camera poked into every possible hole in my body. Last one was done last week with a camera stuck down my throat into my lungs along with a Brillo pad to clean my white walls. A few months before that a camera was poked into a small hole where stuff normally comes out. I am awake looking at a computer screen and I hear the nurse say hey look, there is your prostate, it looks good. I would have enjoyed it much more if the nurse would have said hey it looks good before sticking the camera into the hole. I also have what is called a port. It is an implant in my chest with a line that goes directly inside my heart. The port is used for drawing blood samples as opposed to an IV and I had a camera inserted in the port to take pictures of my heart. My point being I have no desire to use a camera to check my valves.

  11. https://sites.google.com/site/dennisjsullivan/train-story?authuser=0 Read my story of riding the train. I still love trains. Consider taking the real northern route through North Dakota and Montana Dennis Sullivan

  13. Add fuel, secure steering wheel and bucket seat, fan belt and it should start, then back out of the garage and motor around the block.

  14. There’s no need for a pedal stop like that. The pedal should rest against the floor. If your wish to lessen the noise, a thinner piece of rubber against the bottom of the floor could be used. Also, the hole in your floor has been cut open quite a lot. It should be just slightly wider than your pedal arm.

  15. Been on a few Amtrak trains over the years, in general I find it a relaxing way to go. Just don't expect to arrive on time as they are at the whim of the freight railroads which prioritize freight trains over passenger traffic. On a long distance train I'd allow an extra day at your destination for late arrival. The ones I've been on go on generally more scenic routes than the freeway which makes them a good way to see the country. The Coast Daylight between LA and San Jose is great. I haven't been through the Sierra by train but years ago took one between Salt Lake and Denver which has some incredible scenery. Should be a nice way to cross the country on a relaxed vacation.

  19. You will not be bored if you travel Denver to SCramento up long canyon accessed only by foot and train. The views across Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska change every 100 miles as the route climbs from near sea level in Chicago to 5200 in Denver. In Nebraska the route is down the center of the Platte river a very scenic ride.

  20. I wired a relay into the starter circuit on an automatic transmission car so that the engine wouldn't crank unless the cigarette lighter was pushed-in. It drove the repair shop guys crazy. You could also take the lighter with you for added security.

  21. I prefer All bolts under high stress and critical parts like suspension to have setups that are supported on both sides on the mount like this roadstershop.com front suspension-Way Strong. http://roadstershop.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/REVO-IFS2.jpg DJ

  22. Simply start the engine, put the transmission in gear, press the brake pedal and release the clutch. If the engine dies you do not have fluid drive. If the engine continues to run you do have fluid drive.

  29. That is a sharp looking color, I really like that. Just a thought to throw out for color selection. My truck is originally black. I kinda lean to repainting it black for that reason, although I do like black. What worries me is the temperature in summer time, the cab is going to be like a oven in summertime when you want to cruise the most. Therefore I am going with a two tone with a different color on top, will be only slightly less of a oven but every bit counts. Possible in the op's location this is not a big deal. And then like Knuckle says, black shows the flaws and the dirt.

  31. Just wanted to pass along a big 'Thank You' to Plymouthy Adams for his time and patience with the info he has PM'd to me on tackling floors and rocker panels. I was getting 'cut happy' on taking out too much at one time. His info gave me a process to work with and many points to consider along the way. I will post pics on the results in the coming weeks.
