Shortly after I started cleaning up the frame, FedEx arrived with my Jade Green paint. Had to stop work on the frame and get the lower section of the grill scuffed up and resprayed. This green is more what I was looking for. I will mate it up with the white upper grill tomorrow and see how it looks.4 points

The people I've met over the last 11 BBQ's has made my life so much better. This time of year is so awesome because finishing an old truck actually has meaning to the crowd you'll see here! Fenders and bumpers to hang on, hoods to lift, parts to swap, and stories to tell! I look forward to it all. Every year is special with returning long distant travelers and new ones that are finally able to make the trip! I always look forward to meeting you all! I've have been busy as always but never forget to make time for my friends. My son has moved to the Bay Area, my daughter has moved to Arizona and my oldest daughter has bought a new, bigger house, as her family continues to grow. Its been quite a year for the old man..lol. Campers show up on Thursday or Friday and leave on a Sunday morning.....all enjoying late night chat sessions around the fire pit." "I hope new and old members alike are inspired to make the trip and maybe even drive their trucks the distance....you know we have your back! " "So many good stories around the fire pit the nights before and after the event. I can't tell how cool it is to have forum members stay several days and just relax....." "Looking forward to a great party! Now build it, and bring it!!!" "It was around 2007 when Bob Koch, Jim Shepard, and myself (Tim Estrada), went to Reg Evans' place to check out his "yard". While we were eating hotdogs, drinking cold beverages, solving international and regional issues....we thought "lets have a BBQ". "Get the wheels on, and the tanks full....its time to finish up and git to the Q! It ain't no beauty pageant of trailer queens, its a truck show...so flex your rust as well as your shine!" Hi. With the upcoming holidays I just wanted to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. May God Bless you all. Also a reminder. When you get to be my age the first two things to go are your memory and your---uhh---uhh--I forget what the second one is. Anyways, Happy Holidays. Steve.2 points

There was a cab driver who picked up a fare. It was a nun in her habit. As they drove down the street she asks the cabbie, "Why are you looking at me so much?" Cabbie says I always wanted to kiss a nun. She says if your single and a Catholic. He says why yes I am. She reluctantly agreed to this so he pulls over and they kiss so passionately it would make a hooker blush. Cabbie says I cant stand to lie, I am married and Jewish nun says yeah my name is Kevin and I am late for my Halloween party, can we go now.2 points

Quick update. After several knuckle headed mistakes with the timing and getting it hotwired. I finally got it running. I only ran it for a couple minutes. I got good oil pressure (40psi). It’s loud as hell with just open headers. My plan is to run it at high idle for around 20 min to break in the cam a little bit. In the meantime I’ve been working to get the front clip ready to put back on. It quickly turns into a larger project: rewiring headlights, horn painting inner fender wells etc idles better after adjusting throttle linkage will post another video once I get it running a little better.2 points

Someone posted this on Facebook on the flathead 6 group. Since it’s a Dodge, shouldn’t it be here, too?1 point

Didn't know he was so far along... Great project for him but in the end he could have bought a really nice rust free one ready to drive.. much cheaper.1 point

Think the poster meant LED tail and brake lights only....Best thing you have done so far is access this site. My suggestions are... Replace all the brake lines and hoses....Change brake fluid and if the shoes look good Id leave that go for now. Posters here have had a lot of problems with replacing the old shoes and getting them to work again. If or when you get some cash Id put on a scarebird front brake disc setup and whats really nice on my car is I put on a power brake booster with dual master cyls on the firewall. Almost self bleeding. Stops with the touch of the toe. Brakes are the most important thing. A loose front end can get really expensive but Id say replace the shocks unless they are fairly new. Old saying " if it aint broke don't fix it " may apply here too.1 point

I've attended 10 of the 12, it's a never miss event for me. 2019 I'm adding Yosemite Valley to the weekend end. The BBQ once was a good event, then Steph joined and it now is a great event!1 point

That's one of the reasons why my '56 truck is getting a Toyota power steering gear and a GM tilt/collapsible column. The early Toy PU gear mounts on the LH frame rail similar to the Dodge. So, custom pitman arm and ujoints should do it.1 point

I have paid Reg a visit and I understand how he could help start this tradition. And of course I paid you a visit and had a great meal at your table but not at BBQ time.1 point

Some more companies that make these collapsible shafts and connectors to install. ididit.com flamingriver.com speedwaymotors.com Shop Steering Coupling Assemblies - Free Shipping @ Speedway Motors.html1 point

You installed u-joints to couple the old to the new...you do not show any consideration for collision and collapsible shaft for drivers safety...these mechanical links will continue to push the shaft into the passenger compartment....as shown and as I tried to mention above....there is little length between the shifter end of the stock column and the sector to add a sufficient length of collapsible tube as the U-joint alone will eat the space up...1 point

Have a machine do some work with the stock shaft to add something like this in? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Borgeson-450024-Steering-Shaft-Telescopic-Steel-24-Extended-Length/291813769558?_trkparms=aid%3D555017%26algo%3DPL.CASSINI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D54339%26meid%3Dcb4b9f46349746d48aabbed0a50e2f4d%26pid%3D100505%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26%26itm%3D291813769558&_trksid=p2045573.c100505.m3226 DJ1 point

I used a Harbor Freight transmission jack. Better than just a floor jack. The transmission jack has a strap, to keep the transmission from rolling off, especially important with the heavy semi-automatic. The jack also has an angle adjustment, to help line up the transmission. The jack has to raise the transmission as the transmission is drawn to the bell housing. Using all-thread to help line up the transmission is a good idea. I used bolts with the heads cut off. As I remember, the semi-automatic has limited bolt space, so I was switching long and short bolts as I used the bolts to draw the transmission to the bell housing.1 point

Good question Don! 'Cause if that spring is in place, and free play adjusted correctly, the TO bearing should not be moving at all in the situation the OP described. In the above situation the only things in motion are the Main Drive Gear, Cluster Gear and the bearings that pilot the Mainshaft into the Main Drive Gear. If there is not noise when driving, the gear teeth are probably OK. So, I'd suspect the MDG bearing, Cluster bearings or the mainshaft/MDG pilot area. As far a removing the trans, it is easier than a lot of cars that age since the rear mounts are on the clutch housing, not under the trans like brand F, and open drive shaft, unlike Brand C. As others stated, remove driveshaft, linkage and attaching bolts. Then withdraw from the clutch housing. Depending on your work environment and strength, a jack or helper may be necessary. Just be sure not to literally DROP the trans. Makes knots on you head, DAMHIKT!1 point

also...keep in mind that the steering shaft and the shifter are interlocked on these older cars and you have very little room for a collapsible tube and again, this will be only effective in absorbing the movement of a crumpled forward frame ears and cross member and not be able to compensate for the mass of a body pitching forward inside the cab against the steering wheel and inner fixed portion of the column.1 point

Could be carbon buildup. You might need to try poking with something a little harder. Just be careful. On top dead center, the piston is very close.1 point

Here's a video of the final wrapped bumper. The guy that I had do it said the wrinkles are because the cheap wrap that I bought would not stretch. Look at the chrome bumper guards and the bumper and you see the contrast.1 point

you will have to do some serious altering to your original box or do some steering upgrade and use of modern steering column which has these features built in....for the most part, it is pretty much up to you and what you prefer and the source for the parts to do the job...each here if they do modify will choose based on taste, availability or what step by steps another may take the time to try to spell out...but remember, alterations are not engineering approved for the most part by folks here or for that matter, any forum.1 point

I had to go look that up as I didn't remember that section of your build exactly - that is some nice coverup work that I can see myself doing on a project for a driver. HERE IT IS for anyone that is interested in going to read it.1 point

20 minutes watch for leaks, oil pressure temp etc..make sure timing is in spec and if all is ok... drive it like it running great.1 point

Sadly the 216 splash oil system chebbie would not last to the end of the scene. They chose the car that was capable of getting the job did.1 point

I agree.....but just to set the record clear....make America Beautiful..... wreck a chebbie instead...…..1 point

Tyler, it may take a little time but a crank can be found at a reasonable cost. If you can’t afford the VPW price, what do you think it will cost to buy a V8, get it ready, and install it? Don’t give up on your flathead.1 point

My truck had a period correct radiator but was from a desoto car I think, welded a bracket to fit but overall it was wrong for our trucks. It sprung a leak and I started looking for a replacement. That is where I found SUPERIOR RADIATORS from Mt. Clemens Michigan. http://www.wwwsuperiorradiator.com , 586-463-8722. I spoke to Charlie about our trucks he had a drop in radiator $380. he tweaked a couple designs and came up with a nice fit for my truck. These are tig welded aluminum radiators, thing looks beautiful in the truck. Charlie was great to work with and I've got the radiator in the truck. I don't yet have the shroud on or hood back on to verify final fit, but it mounted right up to our rad support. If you're looking for a radiator for a b series truck, I suggest you give Charlie a shot...1 point
