  2. My feeling it sounds like you won't get anywhere until you pull those frost plugs and really clean the inside of the block out. The flathead I got used was supposedly rebuilt and had about 2 lbs of gunk that came out.

  3. I have seen advice somewhere-possibly someone on this forum to take a sharpie and write your cell # inside the hubcaps. Then you can hope the finder will give you a call.

  4. Not what you asked but it might fit what you want. Check out Rustyhope disk brake kit, they are cheap and consist of the mounting brackets you need to make for the calipers and some misc bolts you need. Then it provides you with the parts list and napa parts numbers of what you need to assemble everything. I have not used mine yet, but off the top of the head, think you use mopar rotors, GM calipers, combo of mopar and F150 wheel bearings ... For the price and all the headache it will save you, I say is money well spent ... and you need to be a decent fabricator to make the mounts, then the proto model then redo them to something more refined, then make something that really works .... save yourself the trouble.

  8. PT81Jan,,, You sir are a genius! Added the sewing machine oil. Went on a test drive. I heard it briefly, then the sound went away. Drove it a few miles and the noise did not come back. Thanks! And, Plymouthy Adams,,, thank you too! Dropping the fan belt would have also isolated the problem.

  9. About 5 yrs ago my wife and I were driving with a group of 4 or 5 other couples out. For an afternoon lunch in our old cars. Suddenly I heard an odd noise and looked in the rear view mirror in time to see a hub cap spin off into the weeds on the side of the road. I couldn’t stop quick because of our group caravan, but made careful note of where we were on the road. When we got to our lunch stop I discovered that the steel inner hubcap was still on the car. Only the stainless steel skin had come off. Later, after we had returned home, I went back and found the hubcap skin about 50 ft off the road in some trees. I later epoxied the skin back in place. It has been on the car ever since.

  12. In 1939, the Royal tour across Canada had 3 "39 McLaughlin Buick limousines ( parade phaetons ) very heavy with truck style rims and special hub caps which looked like regular Buick Caps. Only 3 of these cars were made and since they had side mounted spares there would have been 18 such caps in all. One car lost a hub cap on the cross Canada trip. I first saw this car in 1958 when its owner brought it our for participation in another royal tour on Vancouver Island. It was missing one cap. Many years later (maybe 50) the missing cap turned up at a swap meet but was found to be too large for the regular Buick. The purchaser knew what it was for, the current owner of the limo was contacted and the cap reunited. It had hung on someone's barn wall for most of the time it was missing. So there is hope for your missing cap to be returned however, D24 caps are easy to get. I have several sets on my wall.

  13. thanks for the kind words and yes the storm petered out pretty quickly after making landfall...yes I am happy that it did. Power is out for so many folks including myself. I am running the generator a bit more this morning to keep the freezers/refrigs cycling periodically. Looked about, a bit and nothing major that I can see. Debris in the yard is leaves, minor branch or two and plenty of the smaller twigs that is common shedding of a pecan tree. 40 or so pecan trees can keep you busy picking thing up THAT ARE NOT NUTS Got to sleep late...ensured the storm was past first...slept in...breakfast now and then venture outdoors. I sure hope the folks that were hit by Florence do not have to suffer any back to back weather related damage or outages.

  14. I lost a hub cap on I-94 in Michigan a few years ago. I was on my way to the Detroit area for a WPC meet, in a construction zone, just crossed a rumble strip due to a lane shift. I heard a noise, looked in the mirror, and saw the hub cap spinning along behind me. It eventually hit the concrete wall separating oncoming traffic, then I couldn't see it any longer. There was no place to stop in the construction zone so I had to keep going. I had to go the rest of the week at the WPC meet, and show, with a missing cap. I took the other 3 off for the drive home. Luckily I had a spare at home that I could clean up and put on once home.

  15. I bought my 1940 Dodge in September 1971 whilst in my final year of school, had my learners permit soon after and coaxed my Dad into taking me for drives around the local area......I distinctly remember one time about 10 minutes from home driving along the main southern artery in Sydney, the Princes Highway when the car started to slow down, then started to give out plumes of smoke.................yes you guess it.........the trainee driver had forgot to release the parking brake and after causing a minor traffic jam we were on our way again............lol............this wasn't the last time that Dad took me out for a supervised drive in the Dodge but it was the last time I've ever left the parking brake on and it also convinced Dad that family subsidised formal driving lessons would be a good idea............lol...........I still remember the smell of cooked handbrake lining even now 47yrs later.........so Don........your pics bring back so great memories.........andyd.

  18. Hi Just wanted to point out the member map that shows where members are located and gives access to their profiles which usually list what types of vehicles they have. Under “browse” the selection all the way to the right is “members.” Under that is a “members map selection. Just keep zooming inuntil you’re in the desired area. There appear to be around 20 members in the area. Many of them have car projects, though. If the menus don’t show up for you, you may have to join up to see those resources. Regards, Bob

  20. I cancelled my account because of the dumb asses that use it. When I advertised an item for sale I would get 4 or 5 responses regarding the availability. Ok, fine. Then they would ask what my bottom dollar would be. When I asked what their top dollar would be they would get mad. The other thing that was particularly obnoxious was their request to know shipping amounts but did not want to tell me their zip code. Morons! I finally figured a good round number and advertised stuff at a price that included "free" shipping. More hassle with that idea. And, finally, they say they will buy and one of two things happen: One the money order never comes or they send less figuring I would take less. Now they were unhappy when I wouldn't send their money order back on my dime. And then there is the political aspect.................................

  23. Rich, You are 100% correct. Doubtful my insurance would have covered anything that may have happened on our drive around the block. I should have waited 9 years until my grandson was 25 years old before giving him a driving lesson in my 70 year old Dodge. But in 9 years with my health issues I most likely will not be around and if I am not around the car will most likely be owned by my grandson. So sometimes I will take a calculated risk such as driving around the block in my quiet neighborhood where the speed limit is 25MPH. So this calculated risk was worth it to me for the grandson bonding time and the fun factor. I used to be young and foolish. Now I am old and foolish.

  24. Thanks Don. I saw the wires were labeled and that you had already started down the path of sorting them for how they need to be routed. I didn't see a wiring schematic, but I might have missed it. I did find the paperwork for wiring the taillights up in one of the boxes. Pete/Don - it was many of those forum threads between the two of you that solidify my desire to rock out a "hot rod" flatty. I simply wasn't in a position to buy Pete's car when it came up for sale. It worked out for Don's car though. I'm going to get the wiring straightened out and then start putting miles on her like intended while I also start a push to get my Pilothouse finished with a very similar setup to what is in Don's old P15 (its always going to be Don's car - people are going to recognize it as that for years as I have no desire to do drastic changes to it, visiting rights are granted).

  25. Pete, Great to hear from you. I agree on the friendship thoughts. We had 10 years of great friendship with a lot of bickering laughs. Norms Coupe still owes us for this meal. Then we had fun in Boston.

  26. Don, Gone but not forgotten... Who can forget all the fun we had putting our cars together at the same time? Especially the culmination of all that hard work and countless hours of bench racing here on the forum (seven years in fact...), THE BIG RACE in Tulsa, Ok. I only wish we could have made the BIGGER RACE, and the BIGGEST RACE happen, but it was fun to imagine getting together again after Tulsa. Something I love most about old cars is the fact that they are vehicles for friendship more than anything else. Your car will live on, creating connections for it's new owner, just as it did for you. More than anything, your P15 allowed all of us here on the forum to get to know you, your talents as a mechanic, your ability to document and describe not only your own project, but endless help with everyone else's cars, your good humor, and your kindness. Selling my Plymouth in 2010 was one of the hardest decisions ever, after putting ten years into building it. My boys both cried, and I did too when I watched the car roll away into the sunset. The car was part of our family, the boys had never known a time without it. Selling the car opened new doors though, and we've had many great projects since that we wouldn't have done if we hadn't sold the Plymouth first. I hope the new owner can keep your P15 rolling like you did, maybe with proper footwear and less tools... I'm happy to have had the privilege of meeting you through this forum, our cars, and all the years of BS. It was great fun. Pete
