  1. Hi Guys, took ok delivery of my new truck yesterday. What I have gleamed so far is the engine is a 230ci from a 55 Plymouth. Anyone in the UK have an idea of where to get parts from? I am thinking I need to rewire the truck and convert to a 12v.

  5. Nice truck, love it! Just so you know, there’s a number of us here that are against 12v conversions. IMO it’s totally unnecessary. Keep your truck tuned up, rebuild the generator and put on the biggest battery cables you can. My Meadowbrook starts right up whether it’s 95F or 0F. And I’ve used all the accessories at once with no problem. I have a 6v tractor battery in it.

  6. I was just up there myself at the end of July. We didn't do much in Duluth we went further up the shore hiking in a bunch of the state parks. Got far enough north my phone got confused and changed time zones on me! I have a 46 WC that is together and driving etc.. and a 47 WC that I am working on. I also have a 40 Plymouth truck that I am just collecting pieces for.

  7. I have been asked by some of you for pictures of my project. I am posting some before pictures and some after. I am putting a 2013 5.7 Hemi in the Suburban A580 transmission. This car was supposed to be rot and rust free. After removing two layers of rusted floor, rusted body mounts, rusted rear quarter panels, poorly installed rocker panels and purchasing two front fenders to replace the ones that came with the car that had rust and very poorly done body work I think I am back on track. We will be fixing the rear quarters in a couple of weeks. I have installed a Fatman Cavalier rack and pinion kit too. I will add more engine and trans pictures later. Don

  9. What all the previous respondents have said is true, a properly maintained 6V system will work just fine and provide a reliable vehicle. On the other side of the fence it depends on how you want to use your truck, if you have to rewire the truck because the old wires are broken, frayed and unsafe then you can consider converting to 12V negative ground the advantages there are you can use a modern alternator, after market electronics are much more easily integrated and headlights and bulbs can be found at any parts store. Either path is a good solution, it depends on how you plan to use your truck.

  13. Once the air is bled out of the system, you should not be getting any air pockets unless there is something wrong. When filling, I hold the valve open with a couple of aspirin while filling and burping. Aspirin dissolves and system works as designed. Adam

  14. I've done this on both thermostats used on a '41Mercury flathead, as well as the thermostat I just replaced in a Dodge 318. It makes filling block much quicker without having to burp the cooling system repeatedly. You will also see this hole on some thermostats like this Nissan I found in my junk stash. This one even has a little valve to block the hole when coolant is flowing. Some foreign engines ( Renault Alliance) were a real problem to get the the trapped air out of the system. I don't think bypassing this small amount of coolant hurts a thing, although I've never tried it on a MOPAR flathead.

  18. Really? Ugh, I was looking for inspiration when I went there but didn't find much. My truck was originally Red over Black but is now a nice patina. I actually live in Two Harbors, just north of Duluth. I'll have to take some more pictures, I posted a few a couple weeks ago in a different thread.

  19. if it's one thing I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY dislike is mis-badging a vehicle...if you wanted a Ferd get a Ferd, don't confuse things because you are not that bright....

  24. Leather for convertible seats, but it has to be automotive grade leather with special UV-resistant finish, which is not cheap. Alternatively, there are protective finishes that can be applied on furniture-grade leather to make it more resistant.

  26. I took a break to test the frame on the 1-ton, just to see if those springs on the fuel tank moved as much as some folks think. So I oiled up the tractor jack and eased up the beast high enough on one frame rail to just pick the opposite side front tire off the ground. The bumper measured to be 25" at the driver frame rail and 22" at the passenger frame rail. The rear axle was firmly planted. I then measured the tank mounting springs as shown: I then lowered the truck carefully to the ground...by the 4th downstroke, the jack leaned over and sat the truck firmly on the ground a tire width south of where it had started...WEEEEE DOGGIES...this put the bumper about 16" above the ground. I then measured the tank springs again: After I took these measurements, I kinda wondered if the rear bolts were canting over as the frame rails were no longer on the same plane. But that angle is small enough that I do not have an accurate way to measure this movement. At any rate, the Dodge Truck engineers put these springs on here for a reason, so keeping them in place is a safe bet

  28. My guess is the body was originally a GMC 6x6 and it's been put on a modern chassis. The long corner windows mark a GM cab.

  29. With all the different possibilities for ignition systems these days, stock, 'hot' coils, 12v conversion with/without resistor, 70s Mopar electronic, with/mopar/gm module etc, I'm not sure anybody follows the instructions on gap. Somewhere between .025 and .080 can/will work with all the choices! But, I think you're right when dealing with a stocker.

  32. Bob; With any new aluminum core radiator irreverent of 3-4 rows the cooling efficiency will be noticeably increased over the 70 year old honeycomb style radiator. Yes the new radiator will look like a new radiator even with the application of semi gloss paint. The curvature of the top neck is minor compared to the piece of mind that comes knowing that with the new radiator you have one less thing to worry about failing on road trips.amd your engine will run much cooler. Buy it, install it, and live happily ever after.
