I have a 50 B2b from the original owner(my father-in-law). So i poured the oil out of the oil bath air cleaner to replace it. Lying in the oil was an ignition key with a key tag. I fits the truck perfectly in the passenger door and ignition. The key i had been using is brass and looks original as it has identical border design, however it is so worn that it hangs up in the ignition and won't work in the door at all. The key I found in the air cleaner is steel, not brass. So is it original? don't know. I have included a picture. It has a tag with a number and the same name (Hurd) as the key. The tag is labeled "Record and detach" ????. Not sure why. Is there, or was there, a data base somewhere that an ignition key could be reproduced if i have this number? At the dealership?

If you were not so far away I thought about asking if you would rent her out here in Ca. to help keep up my friends two collectible vehicles (one is 47 Ply. Bus. Cpe) I would supply the know how-mechanical and body/paint and all tools and supplies and a place to stay will be supplied! No sexual part of this what so ever- You want a Ca. vacation too?? I’ve been actively looking at the Dodge trucks within the era mentioned above. I’m not seeing a lot. I see a few here and there. I am not in a hurry to buy. I’m just learning about the Dodge 1/2T market. I saw a beauty at $60K Canadian. That’s certainly not what I’m interested im spending. A recent one on-line in Reno looked appealing. My wife is quite a gem. She is a builder, carpenter, renovater, electronic repair, do it all type of person. Not your average man, let alone woman of skill. For example just this summer I rented and helped her set up scaffolding. She’s proceded to replace and repair the aged stucco on our large home and repaint the whole thing. In the process she repaired gutters, trapped and terminated squirrles nesting in our attic, dug out and pulled 5 large tree stumps, then jumps on my stand up Jet-Ski for some down time. Lol. That’s just the tip of her iceberg. I love having that kinda help around the house. My point in this is, she’s shown interest in a vintage truck as mentioned earlier. New to me is that she also wants to get into some coveralls and restore an old Dodge. Body work. Welding. Sanding. Parts replacement. Swap meet finds. Everything. I’m pretty decent at mechanical repair and rebuilding of various systems. I am sure my wife would do a damn fine job at most any assisgned task. I’m excited at the opportunity to work together on project such as restoring an old Dodge truck together. We just passed our 25 year aniversary. I’m sure we could work very well together on a restoration. So I’ll keep an eye out for the right truck or two. I’ll keep feeding her enthusiasm and start the welding leasons this winter. We have a plan and we’re going for it!

Should be a 5/16 bolt holding it. I am thinking you mean the crankcase vent pipe on right rear of the block.

Picture of arm with bushing felt washer underside and felt washer and thin steel washer and then the clip. If I remember correctly this is the same as used on the crank mechanisms to hold the arms on the glass slide?? Same size ? On my 50Ply. wiper arms the bushings were bad so I replaced them with a rubber grommet, thin washers and a standard type E clip, I think others call the clip style as a cir-clip? Hope this comes through and is a help. DJ

It seems there is always a couple minor leaks no matter how careful you are! I had a couple exhaust manifold studs trying to sweat a little coolant on a 354 hemi last year. It healed itself and never leaked again. Great Job!

heck of a find....I have never seen one in the past, looked till I was blue in the face trying to locate one....have now settled on a different model and moved on....my thoughts are this, as long as it is not GM

That's hand stamped, so somewhere down the line was the original lost, or just reproduced for some reason? It's not factory IMO, they wouldn't stamp crooked

while insulation is surely a good thing to add to your interior for both sound deadening and temperature curtailment, you may want to check your heat riser on the engine manifold. Should it be sticking that could explain the quick rise to temp in a short run and also will add to heat transfer at the firewall. After that, confirm the proper circulation of water in the cooling system. Testing the head temp at various locations with a infrared may help in determining the water distribution tube without the need to pull for visual. You should have a fairly heavy stock insulation pad on the firewall within the passenger compartment. Also keep in mind that a convertible has little to no insulation value on the top...

Re the wiring, try to leave everything in one piece as its MUCH easier to see where things go and connect.........I understand wiring harnesses are available but are not cheap............if you seem to be familar with wiring re your computer exploits I'd suggest that rewiring maybe something to do yourself BUT only after you become confident in working on the car by doing other jobs as a rewire if done half heartedly can really be a PITA and bring everything to a halt.............so you have a parts book and what appears to be a dealer sales booklet but do you have a shop manual?..............the good thing about a paper shop manual is that by reading thru it from cover to cover you will pick up answers to questions you didn't even know you needed to ask...........lol..........and believe me even after 40 yrs or so there are still things that I am learning about my car so its good to learn as much as you can as quickly as you can.........lol..............BTW the dash looks clean and tidy, as does the rest of the car tho' from my perspective its a shame the nice Plymouth grille etc has been painted over ................also your cars floors look to be in quite good condition, that rusty area around the seat mount doesn't appear too bad and the pic of the front floor appears to show that the original sound deadening is still attached..........whilst in some respects it maybe a shame to remove it I'd be going over the whole area checking for rust through as the sound deadening can allow moisture to live quite well and before you know it thats all that is holding the floor together..........also suggest you checkout places such as Andy Bernbaums, www.oldmoparts.com as they have a good range of NOS and repo parts and by looking at what they have can give you a good idea as to what parts you can safely keep or will need to replace...................regards, Andy Douglas

Welcome! 1948-49 are identical except for the paperwork. Back in the day, registration was based on the sale date...i.e. if a 1948/49 truck was sold in 1950 it was registered as a 1950 truck. the is true of the opposite as well....i.e. a 1950 sold in 1949 is registered as a 1949 truck. Many trucks have had this fixed over the last 70 years, but some still have this "error". 1948/49 have a floor pull drive line brake....1950 has an under dash T-handle pull drive line brake. 1948-49-50 all have the same grille and body lines. Some might say that the 1950 Dodge Pilot House Truck is the best, out of all the dodge trucks ever built. Then again some might say that its just me saying that, but we can't be sure, because the voices in my head all have names and I believe they know what their talking about. :D 48D
