  1. Not driving any of my Mopars now,but will be driving my stock 31 Plymouth coupe this spring. I finally found the parts I need to rebuild the brakes, the car is complete, and it is also in the way under my lift. So it will be the first to become mobile again. Probably put it up for sale next fall. I can't keep them all,and selling it will give me the cash to put others on the road. Then again, that all depends on how much fun I have driving it and challenging local Model A owners to race me. It is by far the nicest car I own.

  2. I know some of you guys may not like it because it’s set up for a small block chevy, but right now it has nothing in it so I can put whatever I want in it. My birthday isn’t til Friday but I got myself an early birthday present!

  4. We take ours pretty much anywhere for a tour or show. We never trailer. We do park them in the winter while the salt is on the road, but when the weather is good distance isn't much of factor for a show. At that point it comes down to if we have the time. I think the farthest distance we've done in one day is around 700 miles a few years ago to Minneapolis from Ohio in our 41 Desoto. All of our cars have stock drive-trains. They were made to drive and go down the road right? The picture below is from last summer on a tour. It covered around 1,000 miles in a week.

  5. Driven regularly in fine weather, spring , summer and fall. All stock powertrain. 265 CI 25” engine. Detroit built car. Fluid torque drive with engine fed torque converter. Which means about 3.5 gallons of engine oil at each service. Stock windshield wipers are not too great for steady rain. Rain-X helps me there. Ample power. Handles good with radial tires. Stops pretty darn fine too. A pleasure to drive and a head turner. My 1953 Windsor Deluxe.

  6. I used to be fairly active in a different car club and i had a great time with them over the years, but the car was the first reason why i became active with them. The people and friends i made over the years was the real reason i kept going back. I am very grateful for everything tim does and all the great people ive met because of this BBQ. You dont need to bring a truck to enjoy someones company and have a conversation. If its more economical to drive a modern ecobox this year, nobody is going to judge you for doing so. my $.02

  7. I drive my WC-12 almost every day except when it is raining. Those Military Non-Directional tires are not the best in the rain when trying to stop. Don't ask me how I know. LOL.

  8. Working on rear brakes now; but I'm ahead of last year's schedule as far as a start time. In 2017 I got the car going on May 8th after the engine rebuild. Another week or two and I should have everything back together and I'll be driving it to work and beyond. Hope to beat last year's mileage tally of 6,500 from May 8 - Dec 8.

  9. You have to be cautious while driving around in your Ol’ Dodge. Sometimes Mark and FEF will sneak up behind you.

  10. man, I don't know what they weigh, but I have "man handled" a few and I would have guessed closer to the 400lb mark. but NOW when I tell the story it was closer to 600lbs you know...... " he said...... she said...... it was!"

  14. This and a 55 Dodge big-window (pretty sure it was a 55) were the only true Dodge pickups I saw at the meet. This 50 had a solid body, factory rear bumper, all 4 hubcaps, no bed-wood and judging from the lichens and moss growing on it, it was a pasture find. No interior, no major rust, fluid drive, needs a full rebuild. The grill only had a few minor dings. The 55 was so rough I did not take a photo. This one you can read the phone number on. Asking $2,000.

  15. I will eventually be driving the Windsor if I can figure out how to get around the annoying garage requirement for antique car insurance but I don't plan to spend 20k on a garage to house a car thats worth 2500.

  16. I used Berrymans "chem- dip" for the carb body and blasted the linkage, valve plates, screws and lower body. If you take apart the "valve" plates be careful, those little screws are not your typical Home Depot screws I don't think I would blast the inside components.... to many small and sensitive areas to try and get it out of.... but that's just me.

  17. I drove mine about once a week before I tore it down for the V8 swap. I even drive it roughly 250 miles each way to Vegas once a year on the old 218. However, she should be back on the road within a month and I will probably drive her a bit more with the new engine/tranny.

  19. That’s a good looking 31 knuckle. Great shape to. My 39 P8 is still in progress. Been so for about 3 years now. When I got it - no brakes, exterior lights missing (buckets and all). Rod knocking, no reverse, gas tank, fuel lines and brake lines full of crap, wiring brittle and crumbly. Numerous rust and dents. Some other stuff to. Pulled original 201 and sourced a 218. Rebuilt with a 230 crank. Swapped in an R6 OD and a custom driveshaft with U-joints. All new brakes, lines and NOS drums as well. Flushed and recoated gas tank replaced fuel lines with stainless. New RI wiring harness. Fixed a lot of dents and replaced some metal. New tires & rims. Sourced and purchased original front and rear light assemblies. Im about done. It starts and drives but I don’t have tags yet. Painting it now. Starting with the door jams then I’m going to spray two tone. Tops going to be light tan metallic and bottom a burnt orange metallic then clear coat both with a touch of maroon candy added. Put my chrome back on, find a side view mirror and I’ll be done - cept for the interior. But that’s another story. Good luck to all the on-going builds. One step at a time.

  21. I drive mine... I don't get it out as much as I'd like. Too many other commitments throughout the summer. We are planning to drive it down to Chattanooga, TN in September for the WPC meet. Sometimes when I'm out and about I run into other guys with P-H trucks. Mopars in the Park '09

  22. Just finishing lunch then taking the '38 Dodge for a ride, snow in the fields and just below freezing but the roads are dry. Have to dress warm, as there is no heater and I insulated the fire wall well. But it is still warmer than the snowmobile or the motorcycles. The '41 Chrysler is a bit more of a princess, she is ready to go but I will wait for some rain to wash some of the salt off the roads.

  24. I drive my '52 B3B nearly every day. Today I'm picking up a 218 engine. Pic taken at Kettleman City. I met a feoow MOPAR friend there for lunch, 90 miles one way, fun day.

  25. I usually drive my 49 in the summer months. Not because we have harsh winters but I devote the rainy months for mods etc. I commute 70 miles of interstate daily and use the 49 2-3 days per week. Stock flathead with duals, 3spd FD and 8" Ford with 3.00 gears. I've driven the 47 with the hemi for a couple of summers but now it finally going to get finished over the next 1-2 years. As much as I HATE to say it, that car is turning into more of a streetrod with AC, PB, PS, Auto-OD, leather and heated seats. It's also a money pit, but aren't they all? Adam

  26. If you think you liked it before, check out the interior. The hole in the dash is for the freewheeling control, which is in the trunk. It's going to hurt to get rid of this one,but I can't keep them all. If any potential buyer even WHISPERS words like "big block V-8,rat rod,or chopped top" while looking at it,he is going to get ran off at gunpoint.

  30. I have been using my 52 Fargo just about every day. Engine is breaking in nicely and the overdrive makes it a pleasure to drive. The mileage which stood at a documented 57800 when I got the truck will pass 60 000 today. ( the mileage is about the only original item on the truck.) I have had the 50 Plymouth out. needs a wash but that won't make it run any better. Spring is springing here on the wet coast.

  32. It's not uncommon to use the cylinders as the reservoir in a system like that. But there must be some extra reservoir space built in somewhere. When the cylinders extend the bottom, piston end, will hold more oil than the the top, rod end, would when retracted. So you need a little extra reservoir space to hold the the extra oil that the cylinder rod displaces. Maybe it's designed into the tops of the cylinders, or in that cross over pipe.

  33. these are the reasons I SERIOUSLY question why people live in places like you do. It boggles my mind you can even get insurance. It seems every other year the people of Grand Forks have a river flood and it causes havoc...they live in a floor plain...and they wonder why it floods...don't get it.

  38. Gary: Are you looki8ng for the taillight buckets or just the lens and outer trim for the taillights. The tillight chrome piece tht you had linked to is the correct one for your 39 Dodge. The Ply, Dodge Chrysler and Desoto all had different bucket styles so they are NOT interchangeable. It is strange that the buckets have been so hard to find becasue they made more Dodges then Desotos and I find the desoto buckets on ebay. Also check you parts book to make sure that there isa not a right and left tail light bucket and also lens and housing. Onmy 39 desoto there are right and left tail light lens, buckets and trim. so it is even harder for me to get the correct parts since they only made around 35000 39 desoto's I just looked in my 39 Dodge parts book and the right and left taillight assemblies are the same part number 691752. the body or bucket is part number 695909. the trim is also called in the parts book a door and this is part number 691755, lens are part number 672532 Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com 484-431-8157 cell

  40. I am happy to hear this. My Dad and I came very close to being killed years ago. The plywood roof of a homemade camper lifted off on the 5 Fwy and bounced feet in front of the sports car we were in. Good thing our car was only about 40" high as the bouncing sheet of plywood just cleared our roof when we went under it. Car behind us was not so lucky and there were severe injuries. It wasnt til the paramedics arrived that we realized how shook up we were. And of course the guy in the piece of crap camper kept going probably oblivious to how he had affected others. This sort of stuff happens all the time but hopefully none of us are involved. Paul I have thought about this camper/trailer thing quite a bit the last few years. I think either a pop up tent trailer or a teardrop make the most sense for trucks like ours. My opinion for what it is worth. Jeff

  41. Yeah,I've been there, too. 4 emergency surgeries in 4 or 5 years, plus a few trips to the ER with crap like a broken hand had me buried in debt for several years, and all my stuff just sat there while I was trying to recover financially. I now have some mobility and flexibility issues that cause me problems, but I finally got out from under all those damn medical bills and am trying to get back to working on my cars again just as soon as I get some home repairs made. Or hire someone to do them for me,anyway. Can't climb ladders or kneel very good due to arthritis in my knees. That's why I bought a rotisserie to do bodywork and paint, and a lift to do mechanical work. If I can't bend or kneel to get to the work,I need to make the work come to me so I can sit or stand to do it. It would have probably been cheaper to just pay someone to do the cars, but if I did that I wouldn't have anything to do. My greatest fear in life is to wake up one morning and not have anything interesting to do.

  43. Took me 20 years at this company to get 4 weeks, which is the max. My wife gets 6 weeks where she works. She's been there just about as long as I've been with my employer. (32 years in June)

  44. Bringing this back so I can add to it. I finally got to road test it and I hadn’t made any other changes besides the intake and headers. The exhaust is y-piped into a single 2.25 pipe going through a stock 2010 Mustang GT muffler exiting before the rear tire. It sounds pretty good and works well. Engine is a fairly stock fresh 230 with a .030 overbore and .050 off the head, cam is stock. It has a modified slant 6 distributor, 1.5 ohm canister coil, HEI module and plugs set at .040. Using 7mm resistor wires. Went from the stock intake and exhaust and Carter carb. The ignition system was already done so it is not new. Other than taking a screwdriver to the Weber’s, I haven’t made any changes, they are Langdons out of the box First impressions: BOTTOM END improvement! Big difference down low! It idles really well and better throttle response all around. Even works ok with the Fluid Drive despite not having a dashpot but I may add one. 2000 rpm and punch it: good improvement. Slight bog when the secondaries open but it pulls through and if you roll into it, no bog at all. 3500-4500: I’m almost never there but I backed out at 4500 and it was still pulling so I’m definitely not running out of carb. Overall I’m very happy with the results. Hope this helps someone who is considering similar mods. Adam

  45. I get frustrated at some of the threads that go on and on ...getting nothing accomplished. just online endless chit chat.. I go out and find the answer then get thrown to the curb. I'm the type of person who asks a couple questions... then knows where to search on my own... then quickly makde a good decision and get the task done.. efficiently. Task finished. Move on to the next. Done .Oh... and the money factor.... I will spend the money to buy any tools needed. Get something done. Not wanting to waste a month because I want to save $ 5.00. I'm not rich nor poor. I know when and when not to spend on tools. I like lotsa tools and buy good tools and have tons of them Now you should quickly buy some tappet wrenches and get those tappets adjusted!

  46. Like I said use regular wrenches. This thread goes on too long to get a little one time job done.
