  2. Thanks for the compliment. The original was plastic and beyond saving. I thought I had found a correct Canadian metal one for the car based on the part number provided by the seller. It turned out to be for the US Dodge and would not fit my car. I noticed that the bolts holes were the same size though so modified the US medallion. Canadian Dodge is really a Plymouth with Dodge trim (Plogde) and the medallion needed a bit more curvature to it. I put it on the edge of my bench and gently bent it to fit. First time perfect except I did damage the black in it. I used a filler there and painted it black. Up close you can notice if I point it out but otherwiswe it's hard to tell. Getting a new '51 Canadian Dodge medallion proved impossible for me so I improvised. As can be seen in the first picture the middle D is missing. Again, due to curvature, the D for a Canadian Dodge was a different part number than its US counterpart. I did find an NOS Canadian one from a Canadian supplier. Sometime you do get lucky! All other letters are original to the car but needed drilling, tapping, and a small bolt minus its head put in so I could get a nut on. All previous attachments were broken off or badly damaged. This was a long and laborious process but worked out OK.

  3. Essentially there are 3 different types of plastic: Thermoplastic, Duroplast and Elastomer Only thermoplastics can be formed by warming. The other ones will get destroyed when attempting to form them by application of heat. Unfortunately it is difficult to determine which kind of plastic you have in front of you, since there are many subtypes with different characteristics. So in doubt heat your plastic piece carefully (as DJ194950 wrote with a heat gun for example) and slightly put tension on it. If it moves, you are likely dealing with a thermoplastic. If not, your nose will tell you when to stop putting more heat onto the part ... Maybe that links gives a little insight … https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermoplastic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duroplast https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elastomer

  5. I think the main problem I see with everyone is they expect these old boys to be as quiet as a brand new Lexus. With a simple kit from Quiet Ride I have no problems having a conversation in FEF while hurtling thru time and space....

  7. You need some legal protection. Sounds like your butt-head neighbor is thoroughly familiar with whatever codes are in place where you are, and prides himself on diming out any and all offending parties. He also sounds like a sociopath. That makes it hard to defend against his actions, he doesn't care if his neighbors think he's an ass-monkey. But, even if he's right, you can get a protection or restraining order if he's making your life miserable. Every jurisdiction views them differently, some places they're just paper tigers, other places have meaningful consequences. One problem, though, he may engage in a tit-for-tat contest if you file something against him. I'd be wary, he has a personality disorder, how many times has someone like that twisted off, and everyone says later it didn't surprise them?

  8. I’ve started the process of rebuilding the engine in my 1947 Dodge. I would like to use this thread to ask questions along the way when I can’t find the answer using the the search function. The reason for rebuilding this engine is that it had low compression and also the possibility of a cracked block or head. When I bought the car.a year ago the PO mentioned it might have a cracked block (probably why he sold it so cheap). I brought it home pulled the head gasket and found the cylinders full of coolant. Thought maybe just a bad gasket.Cleaned out the coolant. Drained the pan. Replaced gasket. Drove it for a couple of months. Still had low compression. Would still blow gray smoke sometimes on accelerating. I have dreams of making this car into a reliable, long distance driving car. To rebuild the engine seems to be an inevitability. What the hell. I’m doin it!

  9. One quick way to tell a spur geared NS tranny from helical cut geared S tranny is to look at the location of the drain plug. A spur gear tranny will have the drain plug facing downward at an angle. The helical cut S tranny will have the drain plug parallel to the bottom of the case.

  12. You may be right. Lime I said, never thought about it till the neighbor stopped. We've listed it on the insurance policy. Its actually in fence within a fence. I've got a blue heeler in the outer fence that would chew the nuts off a brass monkey. A kid or burglar might jump in the pool to get away from the dog and drown. Is there really a such thing as a " good lawyer"??

  13. most any 60-70 A body should be able to donate a set of perch mounts....BUT if I am reading you right and your are staying with the skinny springs....the width of the perch in relationship to the u-bolt holes will prevent walking/slipping of the axle under driving conditions. It is a simple task to remove and repurpose the original perches from you existing to the incoming donor unit...

  15. I got my spring pads for 15.00 from 4 wheel parts. They have a local shop here in Vegas. For the plate I used a piece of 3/8 channel which I mounted the shock to. I boxed the ends for stiffness. I would add pix but I'm in the process of moving and they are packed. I can draw you up a quick plan if you want. Pm me and I'll send it to you.

  18. Horses always drop their apples in the same location. Observe them to determine their habits, change the environment just prior to their arrival to force them elsewhere. They will not return. A radio with harsh drum music turned low might do the trick. If he has dogs and you do not, play HIGH sounds to annoy his dogs at night, keep them awake while you sleep, get some of Plymouthy's pet armadillos and turn them loose at night, or maybe an old feral pig. Hide an automatic cat feeder on his property an refill it each night, got to get quietly creative. Plant a off set dual row of columnar evergreen trees with a row of popular trees, thebpopular trees will out grow the evergreen trees but the evergreen trees will out live the popular trees.

  20. Tom, nice looking 2dr sedan, as we never got anything but 4drs over in Oz I've always liked the look of 2drs whether a sedan, coupe or convertible.........looks like your on a roll anyway with the teardown , it certainly appears to have had a few oil leaks judging by the amount of built up crud on the timing cover, I'm amazed at how previous owners can leave an engine to leak so much........it will appreciate your efforts..........regards, Andy Douglas

  22. Yesterday I replaced my aggressive rear truck tires with new passenger car tires of same size. Checking off noise makers in the B3B. Valve readjustment is next, then new body mounts. Getting ready for the BBQ weekend. I'm planning on driving home via Jamestown then Sunday through Yosemite, join me, be great fun to caravan a number of old MOPARs and other makes through that valley. Waterfalls should be great then.

  23. I'm not crazy that one of my neighbor's has horses leaving steaming, stinking muffins along the fence line but that's the price we pay for living in paradise. Someone mentioned the local Harley enthusiasts and loud bands.. I've been all of that.. Only had one visit from the police, a county deputy stopped and said he was getting complaints about the noise from over a mile away so we turned the amps and p.a. down to the half-mile setting.. No volume controls on the bikes, though.. Adding.. “With a bit of luck, his life was ruined forever.. Always thinking that just behind some narrow door in all of his favorite bars, men in red woolen shirts are getting incredible kicks from things he'll never know.”

  25. build a large barn between your property and his with the low side and full roof in view of his side, paint on the roof in 4 foot letters, ALIENS LAND HERE actually the barn may be enough and will be noted by the erection of a privacy fence by him. Neighbors can make or break a community. Is he older, you may just have to outlive the bastard.

  27. Very good tip! I learned that somewhat the hard way on my truck when I painted it. I've been using a couple different soft blocks like those for all the curvy panels on the car like the roof and trunk. They weren't special enough to make it in the pictures though lol. I have two different thickness of them, one being stiffer. Between the two of them one normally works. In a few spots I just folded a long piece of sand paper to create some thickness to prevent pressure points to sand with. The only things I have been able to use the long blocks on has been the doors, and front fenders (and hood when I get there) lol.

  30. Knee surgery was 7 weeks and counting. The knee has good ROM and is straight but will not tolerate much activity. Yesterday, a friend offered his truck and we hauled the engine and overdrive home from Bakersfield that I bought a month ago. Today I used my truck to haul it to a pressure steam cleaner, all are now at my shop.
