  2. I just joined today and am looking forward to learning more about my recently purchased Dodge B-3-D-126 Dually Dump Truck. I intend to eventually restore while also using as a work truck around our developing farm property.

  4. I had a 47 pickup that would not start on cold or damp mornings unless I removed the dist. cap from the dist. and blew it dry with a hair dryer. Don't know why but there was always some condensation on the inside of the dist. cap that interfered with it starting until I dried it out.

  5. Breath Don, just breath. Did you have the distributor tightened down when you did your first start? Wonder if the high revs popped the dist out enough to in seat then reseat the drive tang out of position.

  8. I considered that option before I went with the rack route, the issue is, no real room under the dash or between firewall and steering box to fit one of those units, and my friends that work in dealerships have said those do tend to give a lot of issues...maybe not the Saturn model as much tho..

  9. Hard truck steering? Improve the caster angle on the I-beam. The the kingpin is leaning too far to the back. It will make the steering on turns lighter. Don't over do it though!

  10. Speaking of power steering setups for these old trucks..... as I was out playing with some other vintage iron (tractors) not too long ago... the thought occurred to me.. I wonder if anyone has used a Behlen power steering setup on these old trucks. Plenty of old tractors running around with these add on systems installed into the existing steering columns.

  11. As i only have 2 -50 Plymouth cars so I ask- do not the truck oil bath air cleaners have a support part that bolts onto the side of the air cleanerand downward onto a head bolt for support ? Seems just the carb to oil bath cleaner clamp was not up to the jarring because of the top heavy weight to keep it clamped tight enough. Seems that lots of these were left off over the years from what I have read here on the forum over the past several years. Made my own from 1/2" wide by 1/8" thick flat steel with some bends and required twists as needed. Mounting hole for the cleaner end was there from the factory! Other end was put under a head bolt. If you have one of the head bolts with the threaded hole on top of the head bolt that was the original head end mounting point for the support! On my 50 Ply. Suburban, every time I really got down on take off the oil bath air cleaner would fall off because the support part was missing which luckily did Not tip over and spread oil everywhere!. Finally fixed that issue. Jus trying to help. DJ

  12. @RNR1957NYer IMO nothing looks better on an old car than lacquer.

  13. I've been there, but my truck resulted in catching on fire. It was NOT a fun experience. I check the air cleaner tightness every time close the hood (which is every time I drive it!). I promptly put a paper element in my truck, and put a fire extinguisher in the cab. We've never had any issues with our cars with the oil bath, but I don't want to have a repeat with the truck. The cars also have a bracket to support the air cleaners that the truck don't have.

  17. worth it at any price, the 48-49 grill is what makes the world go round ... could you imagine going through life with a 51-53 grill? lifes just to short for ugly grills.

  18. The 220 watt models are I believe on the Saturn Vue and Chevy Equinox. If you check eBay for “universal electric power steering kit” you will see the standard units. As for the 400 watt model, that might take some more research. I found it aftermarket at Kartek but obviously it doesn’t list the original application. Also, they are very proud of their version so the research might pay off. As a side note, the 220 model says its good up to 35” tires. Also a manual rack Buggy in soft sand can take a lot of arm power. Also thing of even a basic SUV with the engine shut off and no assist. I might not dismiss the 220 right off the bat. They seem really easy to get and might be worth the shot.

  19. @59bisquik Very interesting. We have a 1941 ton and a half dump truck. The 60 foot pound version would certainly ease the burden. This baby steers hard. Not sure what will happen when I get a load on her! Even with load no way can you turn the wheel until it is moving. If you would be so kind, please give us some year make and mod l info so we can look this up in junkyard or parts supply???? Thanks much! Duf

  20. Oh, I'd like to make this; to see trucks and put faces to names. I'll have to convince the wife. We have a cabin in Tahoe that we haven't used in 15 years! Hey honey, don't you think we should make a trip out to the cabin this year? Then later at the cabin; "Hey honey, look what I found just down the road in Clements?!"
