  1. Most of the people I've known that put after market cams in an engine tend to be heavy on the throttle, and wind 'em up to feel the extra power and acceleration. These flatheads are torque engines and do not like high RPM's. If you put an Isky, or any cam other than stock in, keep the grind mild and don't continually wind it up. The hotter you make an engine, the shorter its life. These flatheads are best enjoyed for what they are. I love the way I can slow to 10 mph in high gear, ease into the throttle, and it just starts pulling. No bucking and jumping, it just goes. An important feature when they were made and the roads were poor.

  2. Three inch blocks and 1-1/2 coils out of the front. This picture was taken in the early 90's. In the last couple of years its been bottoming out a lot, so I just ordered new front springs for it. I'm gonna try the east coast tail dragger for a little while, then maybe go to dropped uprights. Keeping my options open.

  3. Don't have to. It's not a 23 inch motor with offset rods.

  4. I have an offy intake and being in Florida I decided to forgo the water heater to the bottom and I also remove the chokes from the carter/weber carbs. Takes about a minute or two of feathering the throttle and she purrs like a kitten. Added about 2/3 degrees of base timing. Up north is probably a different store. Never thought the water would matter much in heating the base.

  7. get a four post lift, push it on and raise it to the max limit...go get a pink Prius and park it under it....make this the daily driver.....you have not even lost you flathead virginity yet and you sound like throwing in the towel......you have stated internal rust...why would you want to start this engine without a tear down to ensure any rotation will not cause further more severe damage....you must approach logically and systematically to achieve forward gains. After two years os sitting I cannot see any rush at this point to not do the job justice.

  8. I am back to work and talked to our machinist and he is not able to commit to making more at this time. If that changes in the future, I will revisit it then. Neil
