  1. Today I restarted the engine, too hot in the shop, 101 at 1:00 pm, to tune it. I switched the intake and exhaust valves on cylinder # 4, thus zero compression. Head off, switched the two and now I have six cylinders at pressure within 5 # of each so it should run smoothly. I will tune it tomorrow and take a video. So now I'm back on track. Edit, I always keep the engine attached to a snug hoist, 900 #'s falls FAST!

  2. Got the Pitman arm back from the machine shop. New ball installed and complete unit has been heat treated again after welding. Fresh coat of paint and this thing is looking brand new!!

  3. Last summer I was picking up my granddaughter on the last day of her swim club and it was picture day. I was out in the parking lot with my window rolled down and I could see all swim team members standing in the bleachers. I could hear the photographer instruct the kids to look at the camera, smile, then he would count one-two-three and snap the photo. On the second photo I was so tempted to hit the panic button on my key fob on the count of one as I know all the kids would have instantly turned there heads to see where the honking was coming from but I refrained. Sometimes it is fun to be a bad grandpa.

  4. I keep it pretty quiet nowadays. When we'd have band practice we tried to keep it down but sometimes the exuberance of youth would get in the way. Like Spinal Tap, our amps went to 11..and started about 9!! With a couple of Crown power amps the air from the low end enclosures would blow your wig off! That was a long time ago, though; guess I musta grown up!!

  5. I was in the Sparton horn factory in Flora, Illinois back in the '80s. I about jumped out of my skin the first time I heard them testing horns, about a million of 'em at once!! I useta play that loud head banging music. Still do but not so often. The cops would sometimes come by and say they were getting complaints from a mile away. Funny thing is, none of my neighbors ever said anything about the noise; even with unmuffled Harleys running in and out. I've been in the same place for 40 years and I absolutely love my neighbors!

  8. Matt, is there any chance you can take a clear pic of the area on the crank, I think that rust patch or brown band is actually on the outside of the seal area, I can't imagine how it could be where the seal runs or inside..........a pic would really help............other thing re the metal spraying is that you will need to be able to machine the sprayed area back to a smooth surface, smooth as in equal to the journal surfaces, otherwise the sprayed surface being rough will tear the seal to pieces or at the very least wear it down very quickly...........I didn't have this issue when the bearing race was sprayed as it was on the outside of the bearing and fitted into the housing...............andyd

  10. Outstanding! For those of us without spare hubs, I'm wondering whether we might be able to go through one of the rivet or lug bolt holes, since obviously we can't weld anything to the hub. Great idea though and gives me plenty of food for thought..

  11. From one Paul to another Paul, I have known George and Tim for around 20 years now and did have the opportunity to meet Eddy Kingsbury at Chrysler Carlisle in 2009. Classy, professional and all of them were off the chart smart and some of the modest guys I have ever met. Like you I 1st met George and Tim via the telephone. That was great, but nothing like meeting them in person. If you ever have the opportunity, I would strongly suggest it should be on the top of every true Flathead Mopar enthusiast bucket list. Just don't wait to long as George is getting up there and Tim's Dad who I intended to go north to Canada to see the following spring, passed away that fall. That is not to take away from Tim although there is nothing like talking to guys who were there in the early days, or at least the 1940's , 50s and 60s and in the forefront of Performance Flatheads back then. My apologies for the speech but I just thought it was appropriate when two good guys who maybe don't seem to know each other quite as well, might just have ran into each other in the back wood, both thinking the other had their guns drawn! 12. This one was a Fenton "universal" floor shift conversion kit, that then someone adapted it for their purposes which was in a early 50s van, similar to this one which likely will be the 1st time this is seen in public! lol I believe this is similar to what my Dad did in his pickup although since I never say it together on a transmission that is pure speculation. If you have other floor shifter actually installed on Mopar 3 speed transmission that was previously a column shift, either already installed and happen to have pictures, or are working on one, or even have ideas, feel free to post away !

  13. Another floor shift concept, that again, I need to do some digging and see where I got the concept.

  14. Hey Paul - Its not the Kingsbury or Asche style to go bashing people and because it is our blog, I would prefer to exercise some tolerance and flexibility when in my mind its clear someone just wandered down the wrong road. As well the idea of floor shift concepts isn't a bad idea for a topic so I will start one. But no apologies required. Now lol, if it was a chevy part, or t5 suggestion, well I would likely be suggesting your in the wrong church!. Have a great one and good luck on the knee surgery. Tim & George

  15. Tim, that response is a fantastic example of professionalism. You could have bashed me 10 ways to Rome, instead, you convinced me that if I'm serious about an overdrive, I should stay with what was designed for my transmission. Yes, it does sit back but I'm putting in bucket seats and the shift lever will be in the area of my knee. Marketing this is not my current goal, that goal is a shifter for my car for me. I have sold three OD's to George so we've met on the phone. Thank you for your response, once I have driven with it Ivwill report back. With an upcoming knee surgery Sept 5, my next project is War and Peace, Leo Tolstoy. The book is by my elbo as I type.

  16. Paint yes, probably same as the car. But I have two sets of rims and tires, one set chrome steelies the other set stock. To be a bit more current, could go matt black on the grill bars and bumper, and black without caps on the rims, and black wall tires. The body stays original paint. If my knees cooperate I may be only couple of weeks away from driving this car. Will have a lot of detailing to do after that, but can enjoy while I continue.
