  7. Hi, I recently picked up a Dodge pilothouse 1 1/2 ton or 2 ton (Not sure which one) I am located in Minnesota near Minneapolis and need help finding a front axle for my truck. I learned that I am not very good at removing kingpins Also would like some help positively idB-entifying the year, my title says 1948 but i have my doubts. Serial Number 82580207 Model B-3HHA152 GVW 16000 pounds Thanks in advance for your help Scott

  8. I like your idea of the pass-thru from the trunk - it worked for the '48 Chrysler Travelers! Those sheet metal hat section cross braces are doing something, but could be replaced with a more rigid open frame of scrap square tubing or 1 1/2 angle welded to the same points. Back seat.pdf

  10. Looks like your modernization on the cheap is working out. I can see a huge child seat benefit on your last modification.

  14. Lots of stuff going on with the fitty the last couple weeks! New shoes! Noice! Much Wow Cool! Now that it looks kinda badass what should we take care of first? The sketchy stock rear brakes I've still never even checked, like ever, and the car sat for something like 40 years? Nah, it's fine. Just fine. Oh, maybe a heater would be nice! Nah, it'll be warm soon. Maybe next winter. Windshield wipers that don't leak so much vacuum that the idle jumps 500 rpm when they are switched on. Nah, scientists have invented Rain-X! Nope, lets work on the disgusting interior! I don't have to look at all that other stuff every day. Out with the old This is what we started with. Blanket covered front seat and no rear seat at all. Remember this is only temporary, unless it works. What! Yeah they still fold (kinda) flatI Hahaha This amuses me, and I'm thinking of removing the rear bulkhead and using it to haul longer stuff. Is it structural? Like overly? Next time I'll tackle the front seats.

  16. Self energizing means the shoes tend to angle in to the drums, increasing the pressure. This happens on the front shoe of one cylinder brakes and both shoes on two cylinder brakes because both shoes are facing the direction of drum rotation. Instead of losing self energizing, Lockheeds double it.

  20. Took her for a spin today with her new cargo... about as much as she will ever carry with the exception of some lawn chairs and an ice chest! After Viva is over, I can start working on the Hemi install. There is so much I didnt know between truck and car setups. I guess you learn something new everyday.

  21. If its for the 25 inch engine the manifold will bolt on. Your 41 Chrysler, does it have the M5 semi-auto trans or fluid drive and 3 spd trans. If the latter, you need the special carb for the trans operation, if the 3 spd, no issues. You of course will need the correct linkage, and some type of choke system, as the scisson electric choke most likely will not work on this of course. Contact Tim Kingsbury on this website via PM for a lot more accurate info..... This is a C28 with a vacamatic trans, so if this be the case, not sure this set-up will work, as you need the carb kick down switch etc...

  22. As always, the BBQ was THE event of the year. One of the few things I look forward to every year, the thing all other things get planned around. Tim and Steph are truly wonderful people and I'm glad to call them friends. Here's another photo...

  23. What part of North Carolina are you in? The reason I ask is if your close to Charlotte they are having the Autofair this weekend (huge swap meet, cars for sale) you might put it on a trailer and sell it there. I understand if the car is too much project for you. As an automotive enthusiast I really hate to see someone take an old car to a scrap yard. The car may be just the project someone has been looking for or maybe a great parts car that helps several others In the hobby.

  24. A number of you offered suggestions regarding the irradic engine problem in Don Jordon's beautiful blue sedan. Well we struggled toward home through gold country, often pulling a grade in 1st gear when suddenly thecengine would fully revive only to start stalling out. At Chouchilla, Don finally pulled into a filling station to do a thorough check when he and his friend noticed gas seeping out the top of the carbs. They slightly tightened the bolts and the problem was solved.

  25. Well, it's been awhile since I last posted. Thought some of you guys might be interested in checking out what "The fitty" was up to this summer, and some of the progress (or lack therof). I might catch flak for this, but I'm not into the "patina look" so I had to do something with the paint... Hmmm... maybe hot rod black Yes, that's better. Wait a minute... Oh no you dinnit... (we had to grill it into the kids that "the old old car" was THE ONLY one they were allowed to draw on.) To the demolition derby and the figure 8 (it was easy money in the bank). Luckily the other competitors saw that one quarter panel contained more metal than their entire cars, and quickly conceded. Out to a "Show n Shine" at the local park. (Well, we showed, but we're gonna have to work on the "shine" part) Why you little!! Then to a little more lively cruise night So now that it's cold again I'll hopefully be posting here again. Still lots to do to the old girl, firstly a hard to diagnose and slightly worsening mystery engine knock :o.

  26. Going to start a new blog regarding my B1 project instead of posting to the WIP page on the "About" section. Just a lot faster and easier than editing html web pages! A little history, I purchased the truck, a B1C, in early 1999 from the son of the original buyer. The truck had spent it's entire life working on a farm in the Dunbar, Nebraska area. It even came with a copy of the January, 1949 Certificate of Title! I had the truck shipped out to California and the seller had been honest about the condition so I knew I had some work ahead to get it road worthy. Carb rebuild, brake overhaul, radiator flush, tires and tune up and I was back on the road. About two weeks after putting it back into service I was coming back from a dump run and suddenly had no power to the rear axle. Tow truck home and dropped the pumpkin to get out the piece of broken axle in the third member. Probably from metal fatigue from all those years of hard work on the farm! I drove the truck as is for about six years. It did have some bigger issues I knew I would need to address in the not to distant future. Had a crack in the water jacket but stop leak seemed to keep it under control. Smoked badly and needed an overhaul. And I was having to replace the head gasket about once a year. Around 2005 I acquired a B1D parts truck, no engine but full drive line and running gear. After investing this model a bit more I decided to "upgrade" to a 1 ton, with the optional dual 20" rear wheels and a rebuild 230. This model is listed in the factory brochure as a D-116 Code 75 Like all projects life sometimes gets in the way and it is still not finished. Good news is I have all the parts, either acquired or fabricated. Now I just need to get it finished and back on the road! I be posting updates as I reach a new milestones but for a starter I will post a some pics to get your interest. More to come in the months ahead!
