  1. I know how that goes! Except their insurance picked a fight over the "totaled" truck value and when the dust settled I got to keep the "totalled" truck and they bought this one for me!

  2. It's the Battlestar Galactica look... BTW, the Silverados and Tacomas out here are all built in Mexico, but the Tacoma comes out way ahead somehow. Also, I could have kept the old one for $8k but I wasn't interested in fixing it. I don't have enough time to fix the things that I want to work on.

  3. This is why I need the windshield and rear window gaskets. Trunks fits much better than shown as it has some rubber wedged in placed to keep the trunk lid from rubbing against the body and damaging the paint. Gone from this to this

  6. Yes Tim, the 48-50 bumpers were different than the 51-53's. The 48-50's had a license plate bracket located on the top of the bumper on the drivers side and the 51-53's had slotted holes in the center face of the bumper. The center was flat too and was framed with a raised bump on either side. Also the 51-53 had the guards mounted more to the center of the bumper.

  10. I enjoyed reading your work you did on your truck. Very impressed! You have probably forgotten more about fixing autos than most will ever learn,,,including me.

  11. Very nice Chevy, I love the stance. No comment on the Toyota's. My dad taught us if you cannot say anything nice don't say anything at all.

  12. True high freq vibrations are caused by flywheel/clutch and driveshaft. The vibrating mirror is the surest indicator of a high freq vibe. NOTHING else in the drivetrain rotates fast enough to cause it. tires are low frequency only.

  17. Since I had my issues with all the new switches failing, I ordered two of the Standard switches that Merle posted. So far no issues since July, which is almost a record! I hope I'm not causing myself problems for saying this, but I think I'm writing it off as fixed at this point! Don - Let me know how that switch works out. Maybe it will be another solution to the bad switches I was getting from local parts stores.

  18. Very nice, I have always liked that model year. I would not change a thing. Unless you have a semi lying around then I would put that in it. Drive it daily! People need to see it. Richard

  20. I expect you need to warm up the motor and then run the engine steady at about 2000 rpm for 20-30 minutes - drizzle in some sea foam into the carb every couple of minutes while doing this. U can use small amounts of water, carb cleaner, mystery oil, or transmission fluid and likely get the same results, depends on personal preference. It should clear out, unless you have cruddy fuel or a dirty fuel tank etc. I did this when I got the 52 running. It shot out incredible amounts of smoke and crap out the tail pipe - once that was done - she idled down beautifully and runs very nice since then.

  21. There is a very good chance that both oil and antifreeze have been spilled into the exhaust system while you were cleaning things up or perhaps someone oiled things up before it sat idle for so long. It might take several miles of driving for the system to burn off all the oil or antifreeze. Check the radiator level. If it stays clean and full, you are ok. dp

  23. For newcomers and apparently for some folks that have been here for a while learning to do a forum search will net many responses to questions. I see nothing rude nor non welcoming about it. If a forum search were not helpful I doubt there would be a link to do so.

  24. Ok you emailed SMS about the carpet and they did not reply back to you. I do understand that they should have a phone number. Did you make any effort to call them and try to talk to someone about the issue? From your posting it sounded as if you did not call them directly about the issue but took it upon your self to take the carpet apart so then you voided their warranty so the issue then became yours and not their.. Another suggestion is to always order a part from a major company like SMS and then use your credit card for payment. If there is an issue with the part and the company will not respond then you contact the Credit card company and put a hold on the payment of the item. They will then contact the merchant on your behalf to either gt a refund or get the item fixed. Since you took your own high road now you have no options left but have to eat the cost of the rug.
