  4. I scored 1-1/2 cases of mid 90's Pennzoil from a basement...free. Like new condiditon, gonna add a quart to every oil change to bump up some zinc. Anyone know how much zinc per quart? I would think at least 1000ppm. Either way, free oil is good these days!

  5. I thought I would share this. Perhaps some of you may appreciate this. Last night about 9pm I got a phone call. A voice I did not recognize sort of croaked my name. I am racking my brain trying to figure out who this is on the other end of the line. Finally there is a response.....another croak asking me if I got my truck done yet. Ok.... that narrows it down a bit but I still don't recognize the voice. So I ask "Who is this ?" to which the voice croaks a wise _ss answer that could have only come from an old buddy of mine named Chris. I've known Chris for about 15 years. He had a woodworking shop down the row from me that he had to close about 3 years back due to serious health problems. He has had a number of spinal and back surgeries that have not gone well. Probably partially due to being a severe diabetic. Worn a pump ever since I have known him. And he is only about 50 years old. The last 3 years have been especially bad for him. He is in so much pain that he spends about 90% of his time in bed....and that is with huge daily doses of pain killers. A lot of the time when I have visited with him he is so doped up all he does is repeat himself. Late this summer his Dad brought him by my shop for a visit. That day I gave him a short ride in the truck which he really enjoyed.....I guess more so than I ever realized at the time. So last night when I asked him how he was doing ..... out comes this story. Wednesday he had a truly major and invasive surgery. He had mentioned the possibility of this last time we talked but it did not sound too likely. Well he had it and it was so invasive that the team that worked on him put him into a an induced coma. He woke up about 2/1/2 days later. Last night was the first time he felt halfway decent so after his family left for the evening he calls me. Funny thing was all he really wanted to do was to talk about the truck. I had to drag the story of the surgery out of him. Took me 45 minutes to piece together what had happened to him. He kept asking about specifics like what I had done about the brakes and how did the interior turn out. By the time we were about done talking he started sounding like his old self. I finally asked him why would you care about what was going on with the truck right now ? His answer was classic...." I been thinking about it because it keeps my mind off this other stuff.......and I want you to take me on a trip with it." I had a hard time sleeping after that. Been thinking about that call ever since. It's funny how the human mind works. Here is this guy...laying in a hospital.....just out of a coma. And all he can think of is my truck? It blew me away. I sure hope we get a chance to take that trip. Jeff

  8. If your lucky sometimes at your local recycle centers they might have a shead set up so you can browse around inside and pick up oil that was discarded by it previous owners in new containers. I have gotten everything from Antifeeze to all kinds of oil additives. But its not a sure thing that when you go to these centers they will have what your looking for but sometimes it does happen. By containers I mean the container the product the material came in unopened. I painted the whole backside of my house with paint that I secured from this place also.

  9. wonder when the old formula penz was changed to the new formula?? Reason I ask is I bought a brand new 75 Granada with a 6 banger which was a decent car in the day,one of a very small number of new cars purchased. Reason it died was using Penz oil from brand new. Ads all said it was fine but it gunked engine terrible and mechanic said no hope unless complete overhaul and it barely had 100k on it PVC couldnt keep up with it Needless to say I wont put penz anything in anything I owned,,,If I had some you could have all mine too!! Lots of good oils out there but penz isnt one of them in my book. I could probably start a fire with it, my luck it wont burn.

  11. It doesnt look much different from the last picture but there's a lot of hours in sanding since then. I got the whole car sanded and decided to pull the front clip apart rather than tape around everything that was black. I think the results will be better. I went ahead and patched the old trim holes at the bottoms of the fenders as that piece of trim is being eliminated. I'm off work tomorrow and hope to make some serious progress.

  12. Not a pilothouse but I spotted this Chrysler with a stovebolt shiverlay installed. I thought it a rather strange combination but after talking with the owner I was told his original engine crapped out and he had this engine on hand. He said he is very happy with the power output and glad he did the swap.

  13. I still cannot believe that the 'hand' that painted that car is going to paint mine. Rest assured, everyone, that it will not be a faux patina or any other form of the same. In the last 20 years of my life, I have not been associated with something as gratifying as working with an old car and as a result the forum and it's members.

  14. Green Lake is a nice area too. That's about an hour and a half north of me. Maybe I'm just biased. I like all of Wisconsin and I get to see most of it during my travels for my job.
