  1. I am looking into swapping out my 47 dodge trk 3spd for a 5spd T5 trans with the stovebolt adapter. I wanted to know which trans to use and if there is any modifications needed like redrilling the bell housing. I was looking into an early model S10 5spd with speedo cable. Thanks, Greg

  4. I brought the head to the shop today. When I initially spoke to the guy on the phone I wasn't really impressed with his attitiude but I'm told that he is the man for the job. He turned out to be a great guy. He pulled out the 2 remaining inserts that weren't installed correctly in about 1 minute. Then he measured up the holes and said that he would weld the one that blew out and then redrill and add the correct timesert. He is also going to install timeserts in the other 5 plug holes so they will all be like new. He is also going to check the head and make sure its nice and straight before I install it. I'm very pleased so far and I should have in back this week and it's only costing me $100.

  6. Car shows are for weak minded non skilled people that pay everyone to do their work and only drive in full sunshine

  7. I had a similar thing happen with my 1 ton several years ago. They put me off by myself as the lone truck. I had a lot of spectators looking at my truck (isn't show quality by any means) but it was different than the numerous plastic 32 Ford coupes, early camaros and new vettes. I purposely skip that one every year-they can stick it. I go to a lot of truck shows being a member of the Antique Truck Club of America. You'll meet a lot friendlier folks at one of our events, and there is shiny stuff along with rust parked side by side given equal attention. I avoid car shows as I'm not a trophy chaser, and have seen too many hissy fits from soreheaded losers. One guy told me he could buy two trucks like mine for what he had in paint. He was p o'd because I won a trophy and he didn't. I offered to give him mine because I didn't want it-and that really ticked him off. To me, these car shows could do themselves a favor by making them a non judged event and ditch the trophies. I do attend a fair amount of car cruises, and am always welcomed by the group. Now there are several of us Dodge truck guys that his these as a group almost every week. There goes the neighborhood!

  8. Thanks Guys; When I got my truck somebody, I suppose the PO, had the doors and front clip fitted up pretty nicely. So well that it totally hid the the major frame damage that it had at the drivers door area. The cab had also sustained damage in the front drivers quarter but it had been repaired and a replacement door hung on it. When I disassembled things I discovered that some of the mountings had been modified and or tweaked. This included elongated slots in some mounting surfaces and a handmade dovetail block for the door. Now that I am ready to put things back together....... and have repaired some of this...... I do have concerns about how well it is all going to fit back together. I am not super fussy about it all being perfectly stock.....I just want it to look relatively correct and of course work together properly. What I may do is hang the doors temporarily to see how well they fit and then remove them and work on the front clip. It is probably not the most efficient method but I have found that I work better when I know that everything is going to actually fit. Jeff

  9. I think the 53 Firedome would be a FluidTorque drive from a V8 Hemi car so it's a bit different than the Non torque multiplying fluid coupling that came with the '49...stick with 49-52 and you should be good. Moores Auto will have the correct one: http://www.mooresautosalvage.com/parts.asp they are a bit pricey but they know their stuff. There are a few motor mount kits on the market to put Mopar or GM engines into the 49 frame, if you choose to go that route. I have a 49 Chrysler 4 door parts car with engine and trans which are for sale but still in the car but my health has gone to pot so I can't remove it myself anymore but I have a nephew who could do it and place it on a pallet for shipping. He would need to be paid for his time of course. I have never had it running and only know that it's not seized. $100 for both units. Most other parts from the 4 door are available as well.
