  1. There will be some reader head-shaking over this one — my rusty heap was the subject today for a professional photo shoot by Garage Shots Magazine. This slick Canadian publication celebrates "the art of the build, whether its a hot rod, custom or classic..." and is wrapping up their features for Issue #6, due out in June. Obviously, my car is hardly any of the above, but publisher and chief photographer Darren Greenwood is pushing the boundaries a bit and focusing on the story behind the car — utterly unrestored, original, unapologetic, and very well travelled. I might be a tad prejudiced in this, but applaud him for going out on a limb with a feature on a car far removed from the usual magazine fare but still — in my experience — interesting to many car guys. The last photo below shows an interesting setup for motion shots: The camera is suspended far outside the RF corner and set for a llllloooonnnngggg exposure of 3-4 seconds while Darren's Dad and I push it down the road at about 1/2 mph, giving a lovely blur to the background, road and wheel. He then shot the same angle from the same point without the pole (and with me in the driver's seat) and will meld the two photos in PhotoShop to look like it was photographed at highway speed. Darren asked for a selection of photos of the old Dodge taken at various locations around North America and will "postcard effect" a few to include in the feature. Be sure to visit the Garage Shots website at www.garageshotsmagazine.com to learn more about the magazine and view all previous issues online.

  2. Well, the totals are in... Round trip air fare Milwaukee (MKE) - Sacramento (SMF) = $556.60 2 days of car rental = $70.11 Gas for the rental car = $25.87 3 days of parking at the MKE parking garage = $36.00 Spending a day at the Clements BBQ = $$$ PRICELESS $$$ There are some things money can't buy... For everything else there's MasterCard Visa. So the trip cost was $688.58, or as I like to think of it, $0.40 per minute of fun. I'll say it again... for everyone who hasn't been to this event, you MUST make it a high priority item. Even if you have to fly out there for it, it is still well worth the effort. I'd do it again in a second. It may not become an annual pilgrimage for me, but I do plan on doing it again someday... with my truck. Merle

  3. My guess is that more folks will read the artcle about your car than all other articles in the magazine. How exciting is it to read an article about a trailer queen that lists all the advertised products but the car has never been in the rodeo.

  4. If you go to the link listed below, there's a couple on the front page, specifically 7407 and 7408. Marty Post edit; just saw the photos that Don posted; one change since then is that the head has been polished since then, so the engine compartment gleams! It's also gotten new bumpers and a few other things since those were taken.

  5. The rounded side windows were only used on the Australian-built 1940 Plymouths, Dodges, etc. Bodies were supplied by R.J. Richards and as they had tooled a new body for 1939, a completely new body for 1940 was out of the question. Thus RJR took the 1939 body and gave a the new front end along with rear fenders and tail lights. The body kept the 1939 roof, doors, windows, split rear window and small trunk lid. RJR used that body through to 1948. Detroit and/or Windsor shipped chassis units to Australia. The rest of the world used Detroit- or Windsor-built complete cars or CKD units. A wide plate was used in some American states into the 1950's. Interesting that an Australian car was used as a model for a mural in Philadelphia!

  7. And that behavior is driven by people posting ads in the forum. When people realize the classifieds are the only place for ads traffic will increase. When an ad is incorrectly posted I will lock the thread and notify the poster it needs to go to the classified section. 24 hours after notification the thread will be deleted in the forum. Let me remind all the biggest ongoing complaint at the site was the management of the Buy/Sell ads. With the new classified section you get: Ads broken out by parts wanted or for sale, cars wanted or for sale, trucks wanted or for sale and services. You can view ALL for sale ads, wanted ads or Service ads with a single mouse click. Ads now require a contact email and location info, and an optional phone. You can post specific public questions to the seller directly. And after they run their term they are gone unless the seller specifically renews the ad so you know the item is still available. As a result you can find what is for sale and see what people are looking for way faster then paging thru 30 or 40 forum threads. And now I'm closing this thread cause it is going nowhere!
