George update, and AoK Intake updates

Howdy Folks -  I thought I would do an update on a few topics.  1st the most important one being my buddy George Asche Jr.  George who was hospitalized a few months ago continues to  be regaining his health at a rate  I think everyone including he himself find remarkable.  I was down last week and helped him build another engine and a bunch of other thing.   He continues to work through a long list of promised work, from engines and over drives, to intake, carbs and linkage.

The last AoK racing triple intake for the big blocks was finished and shipped out. It is going on a 1937 Chrysler 6 cylinder. A very close to stock engine, with standard pistons, cam and  new undersized bearings. I have enclose a picture of that as well as George finishing off a fresh engine built and  one of the AoK -  George Asche Jr tribute intakes for the USA Small blocks.

We down to just 1 or 2 of those .

Next topic, intake updates:  As I have talked earlier, with our good friend Tom ceasing operations we had to move the casting of both the Triples for the Canadian 25 1/2" big  block flathead and the USA 23 1/2" dual carb intakes. We also sadly lost the services of George long time friend Bob Stover who was responsible for the machining of the AoK triples from when we 1st started to make them over a decade ago until God gave him the checkered flag and he passed away. Moving to a new supplier also  saw cost increases.

We have worked closely with both suppliers as well as looked at other options for having them cast and machined elsewhere.  In the end, we were able to reduce the overall costs, and get the minimum order quantity down to the point that we are going to consider another run of intakes.

I just received my 25 1/2in triple intake and split exhaust this week. Great work on the intake and especially the linkage.   Thank you for posting pictures of George at it. Makes it special knowing that a legend in the craft  personally created.  Keeping George in our thoughts.

 

Tim, thanks for the update and the help you've provided me.  Now what to do with my cracked and warped Edmunds aluminum head?? Not ready for wall art yet.

Yikes, well if its warped and cracked it got hot, real hot.  Tim and George have a guy who can weld them up and shave them but it will depend on how badly its cracked and how much its warped.   I was talking with George recently and he is about to pull his Edmunds off of his legendary 1929 Desoto and he is going cast iron.  How I  got onto the topic is I bought an Edgy but it really runs hot.  I put a temperature laser gun on it and it was unbelievable how much hotter the front cylinders were. I pulled it and had it checked for cracks and there were none but It seems there just isn't enough water jackets at the front.  I also have an Edmunds which George fixed up for me and Ive switched to it.

Mine cracked right where a head gasket blew out.  I thought it might be warped but George had it checked and it wasn't, just cracked.  That would be my suggestion, being call George and send it to him for checking.

Hi Walt, well the Edgy head doesn't have the ability to handle internal bypass.    The one I had was a 23".  I actually didn't realize there was a 25 1/2" version.

Back to my engine you actually can use the Edgy head on an internal bypass engine as there s a bump on the front, and then you need to use it back to an external bypass.  That said there I really wished Earl had put in both the internal bypass feature but it is also missing water passages that are in both the stock cast  and the Edmunds intakes.

Its too bad because he clearly spent a lot of time and money in a mold and the combustion chamber is great.

Hi Folks -  I likely should have updated this back before Christmas.  100% of the AoK triples are sold out.  The 1st batch of those came out in 2000 and there has

been 5 or 6  runs of them done.   The triple is for the 25 1/2:"  Canadian engine which starting in 1936 was on Chryslers, Desoto,  heavier Dodge trucks and in Canada, add Dodge Cars,  Plymouth cars (other than convertibles), all Dodge and Fargo trucks unless you were talking the super big block that is a series of 331ci, 377ci and later 413ci.    The AoK dual carb intake for the USA 23 1/2" block has been out a few years and there are 2 or 3 batches of those made.         Unfortunately the foam core casting supplier has changed from our original supplier.  He retired after his wife passed away. The next supplier has gone up in costs, needed significant molding enhancements before they took over and now want

even more changes. So until we resolve that situation,  or find a new supplier were sitting sold out.  We have a waiting list right now.  It costs nothing to be on it.   If we run off another round of both, then we will get people to firm up.  I hate to say never, but it is possible a next run is a last run.  From rock stock engines, right back to 1936 engines on the 25 1/2" front to full blown race engines, the AoK triple has proven its the best intake ever made for the Chrysler based flathead.  The AoK dual will now around 5 years experience has shown

in the field to be what our tests of over 25 intakes, from flow bench to dyno testing showed.  It to is the best dual carb intake ever made for the 23 1/2" USA flathead Mopar

and honestly there is nothing close.
